Selecting a Spouse

The first thing we should look for when marrying is how committed the person is to Islam. Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi was sallam) said“A woman is normally sought as a wife for her wealth, beauty, nobility, or religiousness (adherence to Islam), but choose a religious woman and you will prosper.” (Sahih Muslim) Read the rest of this entry

The Universal Message of Prophet Muhammad PBUH ﷺ

FB_IMG_1472811856371.jpg

By Zeki Saritoprak / 16 Mar 2013

Theologically speaking, the universality of Prophet Muhammad’s message (peace and blessings be upon him) comes from the concept of Allah who is the God of all, not only the God of Muslims.

Allah describes Himself in the first chapter of the Qur’an -which is recited by all Muslims around the world in their five daily Prayers- as “Rabb al-`Alamin” i.e. the Allah of all creation. Whether humans are aware of this fact or not, Allah is the God of all mankind – Muslims, Christians, atheists, etc. – regardless of their differences. Allah is the Creator of everything, with no exception. The Qur’an declares that a gigantic star and an atom are shoulder to shoulder, worshipping Allah; flies and elephants are brothers and sisters; all of creation is here to help us understand the meaning and the mystery of the universe. Remembrance of Allah

Almost every person in the modern world is involved in some basic worldly activity like earning a living, going to school, eating, sleeping, and socializing.  Naturally, we forget Allah and the obligations due to Him.  When we forget Allah, this life and its worries become the central occupation of the human mind.  Desires run wild.  A person begins to ‘chase his shadow’, something he can never catch.  For many, money becomes the sole goal of life.  The more you make, the more you spend, the more you want. What’s gossiping?

Have you ever met someone guilty of cannibalism? Probably not, yet if many of us who gossiped were to go by any name – it would be this. This is the way backbiting is described in Islam and many of us know it.

Allah warns us: “O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Accepting of repentance and Merciful.” (Holy Quran 49: 12) Read the rest of this entry

In this context, the life of the individual is made meaningful and enriched inasmuch as it is full of ‘good works’. Life in this world leads to the afterlife, a belief which is fundamental in the Qur’an.
