What’s the Description of Eid Prayer?

10369688_684971001598778_2368405060568899320_nThe Eid prayer is one where the imam attends and leads the people in praying two rak’ahs. ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The prayer of al-Fitr is two rak’ahs and the prayer of al-Adha is two rak’ahs, complete and not shortened, on the tongue of your Prophet, and the one who fabricates lies is doomed.” Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 1420 and Ibn Khuzaymah. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Nasaa’i.
It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed said: The Messenger of Allaah SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to come out on the day of al-Fitr and al-Adha to the prayer place, and the first thing he would do was to offer the prayer. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 956
In the first rak’ah he should say Takbeerat al-ihraam (say “Allaahu akbar” to start the prayer), after which he should say six or seven more takbeers, because of the hadeeth of ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her), “The takbeer of al-Fitr and al-Adha is seven takbeers in the first rak’ah and five takbeers in the second, apart from the takbeer of rukoo’.” Narrated by Abu Dawood and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 639.  Read the rest of this entry

Ramadhan is not the end – Quote

For a True Muslim, End of Ramadan is not “The End” but Start of a “New Journey” leading towards “The Jannah”.

Etiquette of Eid

The Sunnahs that the Muslim should observe on the day of Eid
1 – Doing ghusl before going out to the prayer.

It was narrated in a saheeh hadeeth in al-Muwatta’ that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar used to do ghusl on the day of al-Fitr before going out to the prayer-place in the morning. Al-Muwatta’ 428.

Al- Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said that the Muslims were unanimously agreed that it is mustahabb to do ghusl for Eid prayer.

The reason why it is mustahabb is the same reason as that for doing ghusl before Jumu’ah and other public gatherings. Rather on Eid the reason is even stronger.#Sunnah #Eid

Part of the etiquette is not to go out to pray on Eid al-Fitr until one has eaten some dates, because of the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari from Anas ibn Maalik, who said that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used not to go out on the morning of Eid al-Fitr until he had eaten some dates… of which he would eat an odd number. Al-Bukhaari, 953. #Sunnah #Eid

Abu Bakr as-Sadiq said, “If they withhold from me a rope that they used to give to Rasulullah (ﷺ) (in zakat), I will fight them for it.” [al-Mughni 2/228]

Do not be like the ones who the Companions fought in the Apostate Wars over Zakat. If you have not paid your Zakat there is no better time then now, especially in these last days of Ramadan when your deeds are multiplied. You can calculate and pay your Zakat in literally a minute online right now. »

Women and Laylatul Qadr

“The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) would devote himself more (in worship) in the last ten nights of Ramadan than he strove in the earlier part of the month.” (Narrated by Aisha in Muslim)

Laylatul Qadr: the Night of Power

Laylatul Qadr: the Night of Power

The Qur’an was revealed over a period of 23 years with the Night of Power considered the night in which the first revelations of Islam and the prophethood of Prophet Muhammed ﷺ began. This night is in celebration of the arrival of the Qur’an.

In Arabic, Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power) is described in the Qur’an as, “better than a thousand months” (Sura 97:3). Al-Qadr means power and implies having power over something, particularly to Allah. The character of Allah is said to be excellence in power, capable, all powerful, almighty and also implies “high esteem” and thus the Night of Power is to be highly esteemed.

Here, Shaykh Hamza Yusuf discusses the blessings of this night, when it occurs & what to do during the last 10 nights of Ramadan.

Muslims and the need for unity

As Muslims we need to unite especially in the present situation. Unity does not mean conformity where we are all believe and act exactly the same. Islam allows a difference of opinion and this should not be the source of our disunity. Shaykh Hamza Yusuf gives a great example “Islam is like a house and there are people from the outside attacking you but your worried about who will clean the dishes.”

situation in Gaza

10347717_1514746362087656_3354681062962642330_nSince the Israeli propaganda machine is fully intent on the “If HAMAS would stop firing missiles, we would stop defending ourselves” propaganda line, here is a little response I shared with a friend.
Yes, as a person committed to the power of nonviolence, I am opposed to HAMAS’s missiles, and do think they should stop immediately. Period.
And yet… I also have to add, and in the same breath add the following: There are profound problems with the “if HAMAS would stop, then Israel would stop” argument. It assumes a moral equivalence, it assumes a political equivalence, and it assumes a military equivalence. It affords Israel the unearned and undeserved place of “Israel is only retaliating” that is frankly complete untruth.
What’s missing? History.
If someone is genuinely interested, they would have to begin with the following two facts:
1) How did Gaza come to be one of the most densely populated places on Earth? Through the forceful “population transfer” (today we call it ethnic cleansing) of half of the indigenous Palestinian population in 1948. Palestine has gone from a place where 96% of the land was inhabited by Palestinians in the late 19th century to after 1948 and after the occupation of 1967 to where Palestinians have less than 22% of their land. That also includes the West Bank, where Palestinians live under a barbaric occupation that the South Africans like Desmond Tutu have said is worse than apartheid. (So that 22% is not even 22%.) So before someone gets to say “If only HAMAS would top”, how about saying “If only Israel would stop the occupation”, “If only would Israel would actually afford all of its citizens regardless of ethnicity the exact same level of rights and privileges.”
2) Having stated my opposition to HAMAS’s missiles (which let’s remember, have not killed anyone in this war, unlike the Israeli bombings using 800 tons of explosives), we are talking about the fourth largest military in the world–Israel–being backed by an American Empire that spends more on the military than the next 12 countries combined. So before someone objects to HAMAS militarism, how about getting the plank out of their own eye, the Israeli and the American?
May there be peace, may it be a just peace, and may it start with each of us.

Importance and Reward of Fajr (Morning) Prayer- Hadith

Allah’s forgiveness- hadith

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “By Allaah, I seek the forgiveness of Allaah and I turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times each day.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, no. 6307)

“And whoever does evil or wrongs himself but afterwards seeks Allaah’s forgiveness, he will find Allaah Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful” [al-Nisaa’ 4:110]

The Prophet Muhammad’s Past and Future sins were already forgiven by Allah, yet he begged and cried for Allah’s forgiveness. This Month of Ramadan is a month of Forgiveness and Allah indeed will forgive every believer that repents! Don’t delay your repentance! Recite 100 times Astagfirullah for example. May Allah forgive all of us. Ameen.

The middle of Ramadan: a gift of forgiveness

By: (our dear) Sister Maria Zain

Forgiveness has been a recurring theme throughout the realm of creation.

From the moment God created the first man – Adam (peace be upon him) – Iblis (Satan) was denied forgiveness after defying God’s command to prostrate before the first man of creation.

Iblis was left to roam around Paradise, but wasn’t forgiven and it’s a well known narration that Iblis would never be forgiven despite his duration on earth, and will eventually become a dweller of Hellfire.

The story of creation of course continues with the creation of Hawa (Eve). Adam and his wife, Eve, were lured into consuming forbidden fruit, both made the first error as far as God was concerned, as they defied God’s one single commandment to stay away from the forbidden fruit. Both husband and wife asked God for forgiveness for transgressing His instruction. Read the rest of this entry
