How we can get through hardships and trials in our lives?

Asalaamu Alaikum,

The way to aget through hardships and difficult tests that we may be going through in life is to firstly internalise in our minds that this life is a test ground and we are in an examination but we do not know when this examination will end but whilst the examination is taking place we are being rigorously tested and at times we are tested until breaking piont just to see whether or not we will turn towards Allah or go away from him. 

We must also internalise that Allah ONLY tests those who he wants close to him. Therefore the tests that we go through in our lives clearly show Allah is wanting us to turn towards him and be closer to him. This is in fact a great privelage. The greater the tests we go through the more Allah is wanting to raise our ranks in the hereafter. 

Therefore if we really want to know the best way to approach huge trials and tests then we should simply realise that the bigger the tests we are going through then the higher Allah is wanting to raise our ranks in the hererafter. Trials are a truly blessing in disguise. All Allah wants from us is for us to turn towards him in meekness and humbleness and for us to be patient and to turn to him in prayer and dua. Picture that fact that Allah loves it when his servant is in desperate need, crying to him for help for Allah tends to those who cry and sob to him immediatley just as a mother tends to its baby promptly when it is crying.

We should also internalise the fact that tests actually differentiate us believers from one another in terms of ranking in the eyes of Allah and therefore we should know that those who are tested and are patient are forgiven of their sins as sins falls off a person who is patient through trials just. Therefore we should realise that us being tested with trials and tests will NEVER go unrewarded for Allah rewards how much he wants to those who are patient through trials and those who turn towards him in humility and meekness. 

It may be that a person who has experienced great trials in the world faces Allah on the day of judgement with little or no sins. So tests are a way of Allah forgiving a person of their sins so that on the day of judgement they have a much lighter load. Rasulallah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has called the day of judgement a “terrible” day and surely on this terrible day we would want as less sins as possible in our accounts if we are to be successful. Therefore these trials and tests are very important for us because they enable us to be forgiven for countless sins that would be a huge burden on us if it were in our accounts but due to the huge tests we faced with patience turning to Allah then it may be that we have very little or no sins at all on that day. The greater the trial the more sins fall off us. So know that even a prick of a thorn expiates ones sins.

We should also approach hardships and tests as in that it is the decree of Allah so we should NEVER ask Allah “Why” has he given us such trials? For questioning Allah why he has decreed something will mean that not only have we gone through so much grief and torment from these trials but that we have actually added to our sins by questioning Allah and we will be accountable for that. 

Patience is one of the greatest attributes a person can acquire and Allah is with those who are patient and the reward for Patience is Paradise!

If one is patient, and is among the ones described in the following manner in the Qur’an ( Holy Quran Surrah Al Baqarah, 2: 256)

Who say, when afflicted with calamity: “To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return”:- 

Then here are the rewards Allah will give that person (The Glorious Quran 2:157)


The Rewards of Patience are the folowing:

1. Blessings from Allah: The patient person is blessed by Allah.

2. Mercy of Allah: When Allah gives someone His Mercy, He will let him enter paradise with His Mercy.

3. Guidance of Allah: A patient person will be guided by Allah in this world until he meets Him on the Day of Judgment.

Referring to those who are tested and endure with Sabr or patience all of the above three rewards are mentioned by Allah Himself in the Glorious Qur’an Surah Baqarah (2: 157)

“They are those on whom (Descend) blessings from Allah, and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance.”

In Surrah Hud (11:11), Allah (S.W.T.) again promises to reward those who are patient in adversity.

Therefore let us realise that patience is the main thing Allah is looking for in us when we are going through trials and tests.

Here are two wonderful examples of patience through trials in the life of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him):

‘Ata ibn Rabah related that he heard Ibn ‘Abbas say: “Shall I show you a woman of Paradise?”I said: “Yes, indeed.” He said: “A black woman came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and said: ‘I suffer from epileptic fits, and because of these, (at times) my body becomes uncovered. Would you invoke Allah, the Exalted One, to cure me of this disease? ‘ The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: ‘If you wish, you can be patient and you will attain Paradise (for this suffering). But if you prefer, I will pray to Allah, the Exalted, to cure you of it?’ The woman said: ‘I will be patient,’ then added: ‘I become uncovered (when I have fits), so invoke Allah for me that I do not become uncovered. ‘ So the Prophet, peace be upon him, prayed for her.”[Source: Fiqh-us-Sunnah, volume 4, #1a]

Story of ‘Urwah Ibn Al Zubair

Urwah Ibn Al Zubair had an operation, and the doctor amputated his leg. One friend came to visit him. ‘Urwah thought that the fried came to pacify him for the loss of his leg. So ‘Urwah told the visitor: If you came to give me condolence for the loss of my leg, I already submitted to Allah with patience to reward me for its loss. The guest told him, I came to inform you that your son fell down in a stable, and the animals stepped over him, and he died one hour ago. ‘Urwah said: O Allah! You took one child, and left me many…You took one organ from my body, and left me many organs…O Allah! You tested me with my body, and you were kind to leave me with good health. You tested me with the loss of my son, but you were kind in leaving me the rest of my children.


We should also approach tests as in we should look at those who have less than us. We have clean tap water and food on our plates everyday. We have clean clothes washed regularly and shelter from the harsh weather. Whereas there are those who walk miles just for a sip of water and even then it is dirty. There are those who have the same clothes for years and cannot even wash them. There are those who go days without proper food and even then they have s****s and end up being malnourished. There are those like in the flood disaster recently who have no shelter and are exposed to terrible diseases. Those who have little or no money to buy even basic things aswell as medication for their sick family members. Rasulallah (Sallallahu Alaihi wasallam) always told us to look at those who have less than us. 

Sometims when we go through great trials we get decieved into thinking that other people that we see around us must be living a life happy and content. We are wrong to think in this way for we do not know what goes on in peoples lives. There are many examples of those who seemed as though they have SO much and seemed so happy but when certain things were revealed then it was clear that those people were living miserable lives full of torment! We may look at a person with a smile on his face but he may be going through trials we can never imagine. 

Therefore when we are going through difficult times and trials then we should not look at others and think they are happy and living fulfilled lives for we do not know what any person on the street is going through on a day to day basis.

Therefore whenever we are going through difficult times and trials then we should put our full trust, hopes, faith and reliance in Allah for he will NEVER let us down but is only testing us because he wants us to turn towards him in humility, humbleness and meekness and he wants us to get much closer to him. He tests a person because he wants good for them and wants to forgive them and raise their ranks in the hereafter. 

In reality how lucky is a person who is being tested greatly and is still patient and turning towards Allah night and day. How hig must Allah be raising his ranks and forgiving his sins on a daily basis until he is like a new born baby who has little or no sins on him at all. So the way to approach this is to realise that a person who is being tested greatly is in fact lucky but shaythan is wanting one to think opposite. 

Shaythan is our eternal sworn enemy and ONLY wants us to lose hope and faith and to go away from Allah. He wants us tobecome disillusioned and lose all hope so that we go away from Alah and our deen. But we should reject our enemy who only wants our destruction. We should disregard his evil whispers and know that they are only lies and deciet. 

Shaythan will try to make us think that there is no way out of this and this is because he wants us to give in and lose hope. But we must realise that if we continuously strive and keep turning towards Allah and be patient then the final victory WILL be ours! We will taste the sweetness of victory but in order to taste this victory we need to fight and strive through the tests and trials that life throws at us!

If one who is going through great trials continues to turn towards Allah in humility, meekness and in humblenes then know that the reward one will gain will be unimaginable. On the day of judgement once we see the reward of being patient through great trials turning towards Allah in humility then we would want Allah to have tested us even more so that we could have wreaped the rewards of being patient and turning towards Allah through trials and hardships. It is only on the day of judgement will we truly realise how much we have missed out on and how much more we wished we were tested by Allah so that our ranks were even higher.

And Allah knows best in all matters

Woman who didn’t want Baby (Abortion)

A worried woman went to her Doctor (who was a Muslim), she said to the doctor:

‘Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately need your help!

My baby is not even 1 year old and I’m pregnant again. I don’t want kids so close together.’

So the doctor said: ‘Ok, and what do you want me to do?’

She said: ‘I want you to perform an abortion, and I’m counting on your help with this.’

The doctor thought for a little, and after some silence he said to the lady:

‘I think I have a better solution for your problem. It’s less dangerous for you too.’

She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request.

Then he continued: ‘You see, in order for you not to have to take care of 2 babies at the same time, let’s kill the one in your arms. This way, you could rest some before the other one is born. If we’re going to kill one of them, it doesn’t matter which one it is. There would be no risk for your body if you chose the one in your arms.’

The lady was horrified and said: ‘No doctor! How terrible! It’s a crime to kill a child!’

‘I agree’, the doctor replied. ‘But you seemed to be ok with it, so I thought maybe that was the best solution.’

The doctor smiled, realizing that he had made his point. He convinced the mom that there is no difference in killing a child that’s already been born and one that’s still in the womb. The crime is the same!

“Kill not your children for fear of want: We shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you. Verily the killing of them is a great sin.” [Translation of the Holy Quran, 17:31]

10 steps to getting closer to Allah ♥

It should be the desire of every Muslim to draw nearer and closer to Almighty Allah the most compassionate and the most merciful. By drawing closer and near to Allah we gain his help in every aspect of our lives in this world and to be merciful to us so that we may gain mercy in the hereafter in order to enter Jannah in the next world. 

When we call upon him he would answer our calls and when we ask of him for anything he would give it to us and when we draw nearer to him then our sincerity and intentions will enable us to become closer to him. 

So we should strive to draw nearer to Allah, the Glorified the Exalted, who is the majesty of honour and generosity and the giver of peace, the most high and the most honoured.

So what can we do to draw closer to him? The following are 10 steps for us to draw closer to our Almighty Allah:


1. Fulfilling obligatory duties and abstaining from prohibited matters

The Prophet (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) has guided us. And Allah, the Glorified and the Exalted, has guided us how to draw near to Him. As He said According to Hadith Qudsi:

“Whoever draws near to Me among those drawn near by fulfilling what I have made obligatory on them….

You do not draw near to Allah except by fulfilling the obligatory duties which Allah has made obligatory on you; (that is) the obligatory duties from the obligatory duties (Faraid) such as Prayers, and Zakat (obligatory charity), and Hajj, and Fasting and being good to Parents and all these obligatory duties on you draw you near to Allah, the Glorified and the Exalted. 

The faraid (obligatory duties) are the first things that draw you near to Allah. You do not reach the door of nearness nor do you reach to the presence of nearness except by fulfilling the obligatory duties. This is the first thing that draws you near to Allah, the Glorified and the Exalted, and you are in His Presence.

So the first thing we need to do is fulfil ALL of our obligatory duties and abstain from that which Allah and his messenger have forbidden us from.

2. Nawafil prayers (superogatory prayers)

Allah says in Hadith Qudsi:
….and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (voluntary deeds) until I love him, so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My Protection, I will protect him…” [Sahih Bukhari]


A Source of Elevation for you

The Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Ask (anything).” Rabi’ah said: “I ask of you to be your companion in paradise.” The Prophet said:“Anything else?” Rabi’ah said: “That is it.” The Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) said to him: “Then help me by making many prostrations (i.e., supererogatory prayers).” [Muslim]

Praying Tahajjud (Mid Night Prayer) to get closer to Allah

Allah Most High said, “Establish worship at the going down of the sun until the dark of the night, and (the recital of) the Qur’an at dawn. Lo! (the recital of) the Qur’an at dawn is ever witnessed. And some part of the night awake for its recital, as voluntary worship for you. It may be that your Lord will raise you to a praised estate.” [Qur’an, 17: 78-79]

Abu Hurayra (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him, his family, and companions) said, “The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the night prayer.” [Muslim]

Abu Umama al-Bahili (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him, his family, and companions) said, “Hold fast to night prayer, for it was the way of the righteous before you, a way of drawing closer to your Lord, an expiation for wrong deeds, and a shield from sin.” [Tirmidhi, and others] In some narrations, there is an addition, “And it repels sickness from the body.” 

And because night vigil time is the best of times for voluntary worship and prayer, and the closest a servant is to his Lord.

So let us make the habit of reading as many Nawafil prayers as we can for more prayers means more prostrations and one is truly the closest to Allah in prostration.

….bow down in prostration and bring yourself the closer (to Allah).” (96:19)

3. Zikr (remembrance of Allah) and glorification of Allah

“…Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (13:28)

Remembrance of Allah indeed is the greatest virtue. (29:46).

O ye who believe, remember Allah much. And glorify Him morning and evening (33:42-43)

Remembrance of Allah is the foundation of all good deeds. Whoever succeeds in it is blessed with the close friendship of Allah.

The Prophet, peace be upon him, used to make remembrance of Allah at all times and also encouraged all of us to do the same. When a man complained, “The laws of Islam are too heavy for me, so tell me something that I can easily follow,” the Prophet told him, “Let your tongue be always busy with the remembrance of Allah.” [Ahmad].

Remembrance of Allah the best of deeds

The Prophet, peace be upon him, would often tell his Companions, “Shall I tell you about the best of deeds, the most pure in the sight of your Lord, about the one that is of the highest order and is far better for you than spending gold and silver, even better for you than meeting your enemies in the battlefield where you strike at their necks and they at yours?”The Companions replied, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah!” The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “Remembrance of Allah.” (Tirmidhi,Ahmad)

Heart of those who don’t remember Allah is dead whereas those who do is alive

Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, “The similitude of one who remembers his Rubb and one who does not remember Him, is like that of the living and the dead.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Some very rewarding dhikr include:

Subhan’Allah- ‘Praise be to Allah’
Al-Hamdullilah- ‘Thanks be to Allah’
Allahu Akbar – ‘Allah is the Greatest.’
La ila ha illallah- There is no worthy of worship except allah
Subhanallahi Wabihamdihi – I deem Allah free of any resemblances to anything whatever in any repeat, and I glorify his praises

Read much of this zikr:

Subhaan-Allahi walhamdu-lillaahi, wa laa ilaa-ha illa-la ill-lal-lahu wallahu Akbar, walaa haula wala quoow-wata illa billa hil-Aliyyil-azeem.

“Glory is for Allaah and all Praise is due to Allah. There is none worthy of worship except Allaah. Allaah is the greatest. There is no power and no strength except with Allaah the Most High, the Great.”

Zikr done in places where others don’t remember Allah

Remember: in a place where people are oblivious to dhikir, remembrance of Allah is like being steadfast in jihad, when others are running away.(Targhib, p. 193, vol. 3 ref. Bazar and Tibrani)

Zikr can be done anywhere and anytime 

A person may ask, ‘How can we do Zikr all the time whilst we have so many things to do in life such as we go to work, feed the family, pay bills, etc.? Well, the answer to this is that, firstly, it is the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger to work and feed the family which is rewarded by Allah and, secondly, that when a person is working or at school or wherever a person may be this does not mean that he should stop remembering Allah while he is working, while he is serving his customers or while he is programming his computer. 

In fact the heart of the believer should be attached to Allah’s remembrance throughout his day to day activities such that he protects himself from falling in love with the materials and temptations of this world and that his love for Allah and his Messenger grows stronger and stronger as time goes by. When a person begins to remember Allah all the time it is then that he becomes conscious of his actions. His heart also gains peace, tranquility, contentment and happiness!

“… And the men and the women who remember Allah much with their hearts and tongues. Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e., Jannah).” (33:35)

4. Calling upon Allah in Dua (supplication)

In order to build a close relationship with Allah we should always call upon him in all situations and circumstances whether we are happy or sad and we should ask him for all of our needs aswell as help and guidance in all aspects of our lives.

Allah the most compassionate says in the Holy Quran, “Call on Me. I will answer your prayer, but those who are too arrogant to serve me will surely find themselves humiliated in Hell” (40:60).

Allah the Exalted, has said: “And your Lord says: Pray unto me: and I will hear your prayer” (Quran 40:60),

“Call upon your Lord Humbly and in secret” (Quran 7:55),

“When My servants question thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me” (Quran 2:186), 

“Is not He (best) who listens to the (soul) distressed when it calls on Him, and who relieves its suffering.” (Quran 27:62)

Dua’s are never wasted 

Aisha radhiallaahu anha said, “No believer makes Dua and it is wasted. Either it is granted here in this world or deposited for him in the Hereafter as long as he does not get frustrated.”

Allah’s anger at those who don’t make dua

In fact, it is even wrong to never make Dua, “Whosoever does not supplicate to Allah, He will be angry with Him.” [Saheeh Jaami`as-Sagheer #2414]

Dua is a weapon for the believers

Rasullullah is reported to have said, “Dua is the weapon of a Muslim”.

Dua for ones brother in his absence

“The supplication that gets the quickest answer is the one made by one Muslim for another in his absence.” [Abu Daw’ud and Tirmidhi]

So let us build a close relationship with Allah by making much dua to him. He loves it when his slave calls upon him and it angers him if his slave does not call upn him.

Let us have full hope that our dua’s will be accepted and if you think they won’t they know Allah is keeping the rewards for you in the hereafter and those rewards are so great that one would wish that none of there duas were excepted in this world just so that one can gain all the rewards for their duas in the next world.

5. Building a close relationship with the Qur’an

Recite the Holy Qur’aan as much as we can for It will come as an intercessor for its reciter’ on the Day of Judgement [Muslim]

Learn the Qur’an and recite it, because the example of one who learns the Qur’an, reads it and recites it in Tahajjud is like an open bag full of musk whose fragrance permeates the entire place. And the person who has learnt the Qur’an but sleeps while the Qur’an is in the heart is like a bag full of musk but with its mouth closed.

“There is no envy (acceptable) except in two (cases): a person whom Allah has given the Qur’an and recites it throughout the night and throughout the day. And a person whom Allah has given wealth, that he gives out throughout the night and throghout the day.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Virtues of reciting the Qur’an

“Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah will receive a hasanah (good deed) from it (i.e. his recitation), and the hasanah is multiplied by ten. I do not say that Alif-Laam-Meem is (considered as) a letter, rather Alif is a letter, Laam is a letter, and Meem is a letter.” [At-Tirmidhi, Ad-Darimi]

Virtues of Surah Fathiha

The Prophet said, ‘In the Fatiha of the Qur’an, there is a cure for all maladies(illnesses)’ [Darimi 3236, also narrated by Ad-Darmi in his Al-Masnad and Al-Bayhaqi in Shu’bul Imaan, Tafseer Mazhari 1:30]

Surah Al-Fatihah is equivalent to two thirds of the Qur’an [Al-Bayhaqi and Al-Haakim, Tafseer Mazhari 1:31]

Virtues of Surah Mulk

It was narrated that Abdullah ibn Mas’ud said: Whoever reads Tabarakallahi Biyadihil Mulk [i.e. Surah al-Mulk] every night, Allah will protect him from the torment of the grave. At the time of the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) we used to call it al-mani’ah (that which protects). In the Book of Allah it is a surah which, whoever recites it every night has done very well. (an-Nasa’i)

Virtues of Surah Zilzalah, Al Kaafirun and Al Ikhlas

Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas and Anas Ibn Malik (Ra) reported that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, ‘Whoever recited Surah Zilzilah (99) would get the reward of reciting half the Qur’an. Whoever recited Surah al Kaafirun (109) would get a reward as if reading a quarter of the Qur’an. Whoever recited Surah al Ikhlas (112) would get a reward as if reading one third of the Qur’an’. (At-Tirmidhi 2818/A)

Reading, understanding and implementing the Qur’an in our daily lives

The virtues of reciting the Qur’an are too numerous to list. In order to get closer to Allah we need to recite the Qur’an, understand it and implement it in our daily lives. 

We should make a target of reading at least a chapter a day. If one can’t manage that then at least half a chapter. If one still can’t manage that then recite at least quarter of a chapter or even a page a day. However much we can manage we should try to recite each day with its meanings and implement what we learn into our daily lives. 

Reading a little each day is better than reciting a lot once in a while. We should build a close relationship with the Qur’an which is in fact building a close relationship with Allah!

“Verily Allah raises nations by this book (the Qur’an) and puts down (i.e. destroys) others by it.” [Muslim]

6. Keeping good company

One of the most important things we must do, which sadly many people neglect, is that we should avoid bad company. People we should avoid taking as friends those who speak too freely, who miss Salah, who do not dress modestly, who backbite, slander etc. 

The company of such people is poison; just even sitting and talking with them will lead one to commit sins. Just as a person who sits for a long time with a perfume seller begins to smell nice, and a person who sits by a gutter cleaner begins to smell awful, similarly a person who spends time in the company of the wicked eventually gets affected badly by them. 

Rather, we should seek out pious friends who fear Allah taala and who have the qualities of humility, charity, compassion, modesty and knowledge. If we sit with them we will always benefit and they will be a means for us to get closer to Allah taala!

The Prophet (saws) said, “The case of the good companion and the bad companion is like that of the seller of musk and the blower of the bellows (iron-smith). As for the seller of musk, he will either give you some of the musk, or you will purchase some from him, or at least you will come away having experienced its good smell. Whereas the blower of the bellows will either burn your clothing, or at least you will come away having experienced its repugnant smell.” [Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]

Remember: “All friends will be enemies of one another on that Day (Day of Judgment) except those of the virtuous.” (al-Qur’an 43:67)

7. Having fear and hope in Allah

Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people. (Surah Yusuf 12:87) 

One must be hopeful of Allahs mercy and forgiveness and fearful of His punishment. It is this fear that should lead one to seek Allahs forgiveness with hope. Allah says:

Know that Allah is severe in punishment and that Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (Surat al-Maaidah 5:98) 

In the above verse, Allah gives us reason to fear because His punishment is justly severe, as well as good reason to have hope, since He is the Most Forgiving and Merciful. There should be a balance between fear and hope and not too much or too less of one or the other.

We should always remain between fear and hope. For, the right and the approved kind of fear is that which acts as a barrier between the slave and the things forbidden by Allah. But, if fear is excessive, then the possibility is that the man will fall into despair and pessimism.

On the other hand the approved state of optimism is of a man who does good in the light of the Shari’ah and is hopeful of being rewarded for it. Or, conversely, if a man committed a sin, he repents sincerely, and is hopeful of being forgiven. Allah (swt) said:

“Verily, those who believed, and those who migrated and fought in the way of Allah, it is they who are hopeful of Allah’s mercy. And Allah is very Forgiving, very Merciful.” (Al-Baqarah, 218)

In contrast, if a man indulges in sins and excesses, but is hopeful that he would be forgiven without doing anything good, then, this is self-deception, mere illusion and false hope.

Abu ‘All Rowzbari has said, “Fear and hope are like the two wings of a bird. If they are well balanced, the flight will be well balanced. But, If one is stunted, the Right would also be stunted. And, to be sure, if the two are lost, the bird will soon be in the throes of death.”

Allah has praised the people of hope and fear in the following verse:

‘Is one who worships devotedly during the night, prostrating himself or standing, fearing the Hereafter, and hoping for the mercy of his Lord (is equal to him who doesn’t do these things)?’ (Al Zumar, 9)

Hope then also demands fear. If that was not the case, one would be in a state of false security. Conversely, fear demands hope. Without that it would be despair.

Fear and hope, both should be equally proportioned in our hearts, in our worship, and in our dua to Allah. Allah says: 

Call out to Him with fear and hope. (Surat al-Araaf 7:56) 

They forsake their beds to call their Lord in fear and hope. (Surat as-Sajdah 32:16)

8. Voluntary fasting for the pleasure of Allah

Fasting in general and voluntary fasting in particular is a great worship. Fasting is not restricted to Ramadhan, but it is an act of worship that can be [and should be in some cases] performed at any time and at any place except when not recommended. Indeed, it is a worship that draws the believer closer to Allah and closer to perfection.

Fasting Mondays and Thursdays: 

`Aa’ishah said: The Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa salam, used to fast Mondays and Thursdays”. [An-Nasaa’i; Sahih]

Abu Hurairah reported that the most the Prophet, salla Allahu alaihi wa salam, would fast would be Monday and Thursday. He was asked about that and he said: “The deeds of people are presented to Allah on every Monday and Thursday. Allah forgives every Muslim except for those who are deserting each other. He says: “leave them for later.” [Ahmad; Hasan] 

Intention for voluntary fasting

As opposed to Ramadan, the intention does not have to be made before dawn. The person can intend fasting [and start fasting] after dawn any time [even after noon] given that he did not eat anything.

`Aa’ishah said : The Prophet, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, came to us one day and said, “Do you have any [food]?” We said “No”. He said: Therefore, I am Fasting”. [Muslim and Abu Dawood]

Fasting three days of every month(White days):

Abu Tharr Al-Ghefari said: “The Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, said “O Abu Tharr! if you fast three days of every month, then fast the 13th, the 14th and the 15th [these are call the al-ayaam al-beedh, the white days]”. [Ahmad, an-Nasaa’i and at-Tirmithi; Sahih]

“Fasting and the Qur’an will intercede for the slave on the Day of Resurrection. Fasting will say: ‘O My Rabb! I prevented him from food and desires, so accept my intercession for him.’ And the Qur’an will say: ‘I prevented him from sleep during the night, so accept my intercession for him.’ He (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said: ‘And they will (be allowed to) intercede.’” [Ahmad, at-Tabarani, Al-Hakim, Sahih]

So let us get closer to Allah by fasting Mondays and Thursdays or at least 3 days every month on the 13th,14th and 15th. If we leave something for the pleasure of Allah then we will get MUCH greater in return!

9. Sincerely repenting to Allah

Allah says: O son of Adam, if your sins were to reach the clouds of the sky and you would then seek My forgiveness, I would forgive you.

When a person sins and then sincerely turns to Allah for forgiveness, one will find Allah ready to accept his repentance and to forgive him, as this verse indicates: 

And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself, but then seeks forgiveness from Allah, he will find Allah forgiving and merciful. (Surat an-Nisaa 4:110) 

Everyone commits sin and does wrong, but Allah is always willing to forgive and He always gives them a chance to repent and seek His forgiveness. A believer should never forget the fact that Allah is so forgiving. If Allah had willed, He could have held everyone accountable for his or her sins, but He has decreed that He shall allow His servants to seek His forgiveness and that He shall in fact forgive who and what He wills. In fact, Allah commands that His servants seek His forgiveness:

And seek Allahs forgiveness. Certainly, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. (Surat al-Muzzammil 73:20) 

Repentance is an act, which purifies the soul and brings the servant closer to Allah. It puts the heart at rest from guilt. It protects one from falling prey to his desires and lusts and increases his faith.

We must ask ourselves this question:Would we be willing to forgive anyone who hurts us and disobeys us constantly as easily as Allah is Able to forgive? Most probably, the answer would be no. But our Creator is the Most Kind and He is the Most Perfect.

Lo! Allah is a Lord of Kindness to mankind, but most of mankind give not thanks. (Surat al-Baqarah 2:143) 

In Hadithi Qudsi, mankind is encouraged to seek Allahs forgiveness and repent, but there are five conditions of repentance, which must be met for ones repentance to be accepted. They are:

The first and most important is that the act of repentance be sincerely for Allah alone. 

Secondly, the person must feel remorse and guilt over his actions so much so that he wished he had never done it in the first place. 

The third condition is that the person must immediately cease performing the wrong and sinful act. 

Fourthly, the repentant person must have a firm intention to never commit the sin again. 

And lastly, the person must repent before it is too late, meaning before death approaches. 

However, there is a condition. One must not associate any partners with Allah, which is shirk. And Allah does not forgive shirk and if one dies without believing in Allah alone as ones Creator, then he will be doomed to the Hellfire for all of eternity. 

So, Allah emphasizes the importance of calling on Him alone. He has no and needs no partners, associates, wives, children, etc. There is no god, but Allah. None forgives sins except Him, so one who is seeking forgiveness should seek it only from Allah. 

Allahs forgiveness and mercy is far greater and vaster than the sins of the creation. One must always have trust and hope in Allah in both good times and bad times and especially when seeking Allahs forgiveness. And the believer who calls out to his Lord for forgiveness demonstrates his true weakness and that he is totally dependent on the Creator. 

When one confesses his sins to Allah and sincerely repents with hope in Allahs mercy, the heart should come to peace and the soul should feel rest. When a person has hope, he has no reason to despair because it only leads to destruction. Allah gives hope to all, especially those who despair that there is no reason to despair because Allah is the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

Allah praises those who repent and turn to Him:

And those who, when they commit a lewd act or wrong themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins and who forgives sins except Allah? And they do not persist in what (wrong) they were doing while they knew it. For such, the reward is forgiveness from their Lord and Gardens with rivers flowing through, wherein they shall abide forever. How excellent is the reward of the doers (of good)! (Surah Ali Imran 3:135-136)

10. Having good manners, character and being humble


Many of us think that “a perfect Muslim” is simply one who is correct in the observance of the salah (ritual Prayer), the fasting, the zakah (payment of a certain portion of one’s wealth to the poor), and the Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah). This indeed is not the case.

If the ritual observances do not help the person to be humble, virtuous and truly God-fearing, then he or she is not a real Muslim. A Muslim should be good and just in dealing with others, no matter their religion, and take special care to keep away from all the shameful and sinful things Allah has forbidden.

One can never get close to Allah by being arrogant, full of pride and having a bad character and manners. Those who have humility and are humble and have good character and manners are the closest to Allah and Allah raises their ranks in the hereafter. The best person is the one who is best towards others.

The superiority of good character: 

Hadrat Abu Darda, may Allah be pleased with him, relates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “Nothing is heavier in the scales of a believer on the Day of Judgement than his good behaviour. Allah detests a person who is obscene and shameless”. (Tirmidhi)

The best friend in the sight of Allah is he who is the well-wisher of his companions, and the best neighbour is one who behaves best towards his neighbours. (Tirmidhi)

Having humility and being humble:

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “He who was humble for the sake of God by one degree, God (SWT) would then elevate them to a degree till they reach the uppermost of high Orders, and he who was arrogant to God (SWT), God (SWT) would then lower him for a degree till he reaches the lowest of low Orders”, (Narrated by: Muslim (Hadeeth: 6535).

Al-Nawawi said: 

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:“And no one humbles himself before Allaah but Allaah will raise him (in status).” 

Humbleness is to know the value of oneself, to avoid pride, or disregarding the truth and underestimating people. As the Prophet sallallahu`alaihi wa sallam said, according to Muslim and others, “Al-Kibr is rejecting the truth and looking down upon people” [Muslim, Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud]. 



Humbleness is for one who is important and significant and he fears to gain notoriety or to become too great among people. Humbleness is that one should humble himself with his companions. 

Humbleness is to humble oneself to one who is below you. If you find someone who is younger than you, or of less importance than you, you should not despise him, because he might have a better heart than you, or be less sinful, or closer to Allah than you. Even if you see a sinful person and you are righteous, do not act in arrogance towards him, and thank Allah that He saved you from the tribulation that He put him through. 

Remember that there might be some riyaa’ or vanity in your righteous deeds that may cause them to be of no avail, and that this sinful person may be regretful and fearful concerning his bad deeds, and this may be the cause of forgiveness of his sins.

Humbleness is that your deed should not become too great in your eyes. If you do a good deed, or attempt to get closer to Allah ta`ala through an act of obedience, your deed may still not be accepted, “Allah only accepts from those who have taqwa (fear of Allah).” (Surat al-Maida: 27)

Humbleness is that, when you are advised, if Shaytaan calls you to reject the advice, you must negate him. Because the purpose of advice is that your brother points out the defects that you have. 

The arrogant never gives credit to anybody or mentions good about someone, and if he needed to do so, he would also mention five defects of that person. But if he hears somebody reminding him about his own defects, he will not be flexible nor comply due to his inferiority complex. This is why it is among man’s moral integrity to accept criticism or comment without any sensitivity or discomfort or feelings of shame and weakness. 

We can summarize the teachings of Islam about the Muslim character in the following list: 

Be truthful in everything, don’t lie. 
Be sincere and straightforward, don’t be hypocritical. 
Be honest, don’t be corrupt. 
Be humble, don’t be boastful. 
Be moderate, don’t be excessive. 
Be reserved, don’t be garrulous. 
Be soft-spoken, don’t be loud. 
Be refined and gentle in speech, don’t curse and use foul language. 
Be loving and solicitous to others, don’t be unmindful of them. 
Be considerate and compassionate, don’t be harsh. 
Be polite and respectful to people, don’t be insulting or disrespectful. 
Be generous and charitable, don’t be selfish and miserly. 
Be good natured and forgiving, don’t be bitter and resentful. 
Share and be content with what Allah has given you, don’t be greedy. 
Be cheerful and pleasant, don’t be irritable and morose. 
Be chaste and pure, don’t be lustful.
Be alert and aware of the world around you, don’t be absent-minded. 
Be dignified and decent, don’t be graceless. 
Be optimistic and hopeful, don’t be cynical or pessimistic. 
Be confident and have deep faith, don’t be doubtful and wavering. 
Be spiritually oriented and not materialistic. 
Be confident of the mercy of Allah, don’t be despairing and lose heart. 
Be diligent and vigilant of your duties, don’t be negligent. 
Be thankful to Allah and constantly pray to Him, don’t be forgetful of His innumerable blessings. 

Finally as the righteous say, “The love of Allah is the axis around which all good revolves.” If you fall in love with Allah, and then strive to be true in your love–in accordance with the way of the Beloved of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace), then you’ll find nothing but increasing light and contentment in your life.

And Allah alone gives success.

Certainty and Trust in ALLAH

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

ALLAH Almighty says:

“When the Believers saw the Confederates, they said, ‘This is what ALLAH and His Messenger promised us. ALLAH and His Messenger told us the truth.’ It only increased them in faith and in submission.” (The Holy Quran 33:22)

“Those to whom people said: ‘The people great army have gathered against you, so fear them.’ But that merely increased their faith and they said: ‘ALLAH is enough for us and the best of Guardians.’ So they returned with blessings and bounty from ALLAH and no evil touched them. They pursued the pleasure of ALLAH. ALLAH’s favour is indeed immense.” (The Holy Quran 3:173-174)

“Put your trust in the Living who does not, die” (The Holy Quran  25:58) and the Almighty says, “So let the believers put their trust in ALLAH,”
“Then when you have reached a firm decision, put your trust in ALLAH.” (The Holy Quran 3:159)

“Whoever puts his trust in ALLAH ¬ He will be enough for him.” (The Holy Quran 65:3)

“The believers are those whose hearts tremble when ALLAH is mentioned, whose faith is increased when His Signs are mentioned to them, and who put their trust in their Lord.” (The Holy Quran 8:2)

Ahadith (s):
Ibn ‘Abbas (R.A) said, “The Messenger of ALLAH, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘All the nations were shown to me and I saw a Prophet with a small group, and a Prophet with one or two men, and a Prophet with no one at all. Then an enormous mass was shown to me and I thought that they were my community.

I was told, “This is Musa and his community, but look to the furthest horizon,” and there was an enormous mass. It was said to me, “This is your community. Among them are seventy thousand who will enter the Garden without reckoning or punishment.”‘ Then he got up and entered his house and the people discussed concerning those who would enter the Garden without reckoning or punishment. Some of them said, ‘Perhaps it is those who were with the Messenger of ALLAH,’ while others said, ‘Perhaps it is those who are born in Islam and do not associate anything with ALLAH,’ and they mentioned various things.

The Messenger of ALLAH came out to them and said, ‘What are you discussing?’ They told him and he said, ‘They are those who do not make charms or ask others for charms, and do not seek omens.

They trust in their Lord.’ ‘Ukkasha ibn Muhsin stood up and said, ‘Ask ALLAH to make me one of them.’ He said, ‘You are one of them.’ Then another man stood up and said, ‘Ask ALLAH to make me one of them.’ He said, “‘Ukkasha beat you to it.'” [Agreed upon]

Ibn ‘Abbas (R.A) reported that the Messenger of ALLAH (saw) used to say, “O ALLAH, I submit to you and I believe in you and I have relied on you and I turn to you and I have argued by you. I seek refuge with Your might, there is no god other than You, from Your misguiding me. You are the Living who does not die while jinn and men will all die.” [Agreed upon. This is the version in Muslim.]

‘Hazar Umar Bin Khitab (r.a) said, “I heard the Messenger of ALLAH (saw) say, “If you were to rely on ALLAH as He should be relied on, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds. They go out in the morning hungry and return in the evening full.” [at-Tirmidhi]

Abu ‘Umara al-Bara’ ibn ‘Azib reported that the Messenger of ALLAH (saw) said, “O so-and-so! When you retire to your bed, say, ‘O ALLAH, I submit myself to You and I have turned my face to You. I have entrusted my affair to You and taken shelter with You out of desire for You and fear of You. There is no shelter nor rescue from You except with You. I have believed in Your Book which You sent down and Your Prophet whom You sent.’ If you die during the night, you will die in natural submission, and if you are still alive in the morning, your morning will be good. [Agreed upon]

Anas reported that the Messenger of ALLAH (saw) said, “Whoever says, i.e. when he leaves his house, ‘In the name of ALLAH. I have relied on ALLAH and there is no power nor strength except by ALLAH’ will be told, ‘You have been guided, spared and protected,’ and Shaytan will be kept far from him.[Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa’i and others]

Abu Dawud added, “He, i.e. Shaytan, says to another shaytan, ‘How can you get at a man who has been guided, spared and protected?'”

Daily Muslim Worship Plan

Morning

Upon Awakening:

1. Wake up before Fajr begins in order to pray the Tahajjud prayer (Awaken at least 20-30 minutes before Fajr begins if not more).

Note: Duas are readily accepted just before Fajr begins. So we should try and wake up earlier so that we can spend at least 5-10 minutes (if not more) in Dua before Fajr begins.

2. Do Sunnah’s of upon awakening like reciting the Adhkar (Dua’s), using Miswaak etc. (Download the full Sunnah collection from the link above)

3. Miswaak can be used for: The recitation of Qur’an & Hadith. When mouth emits bad odour. For teaching or learning Islam. For making remembrance of Allah. Before intercourse. After entering one’s home. Before entering any good gathering. When experiencing pangs of hunger or thirst. After the time of Suhoor. Before meals. Before and after a journey. Before and after sleeping.

4. Do the Sunnah’s of going to the toilet, making Wudu/Ghusl.

5. Do the Sunnah’s of hair, moustache, beard and nails etc.

6. Do the Sunnah’s of getting dressed/undressed.

Wudu (Ablution)

Sins wash away whilst doing Wudu: Abu Hurairah (RA) relates that The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “When a Mu’min or Muslim servant of Allah performs ablution and he washes his face, the sins which the eye committed by looking are washed off with the water or with the last drop of water. When he washes his hands, the sins which were committed because of the touch of the hands are washed away with the water or with the last drop of water. When he washes his feet, the sins which were committed by the walking of the feet are washed off with the water or with the last drop of water until he comes out from that ablution cleansed from every sin (minor). (Muslim) 

7. Do the Sunnah’s of Wudu and then after Wudu proclaim the Shahada: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallim said:”If anyone amongst you performs the ablution perfectly and then says: ‘Ash-hadu ‘an laa ‘ilaaha ‘illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu wa ‘ash-hadu ‘anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasooluhu.

I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, Who has no partner; and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. Then the eight gates of Paradise would be opened for him and he may enter by whichever of them he wishes”. (Muslim) 

8. Always pray 2 Raka’a Tahiyyatul Wudu after making Wudu, with full khushu (concentration) for paradise becomes obligatory (Wajib) for the performer(Muslim).

Sincerety and purifying Intentions

Intentions

9. We should purify & correct our intentions before doing any acts of worship because we may have other underlying intentions in our hearts without even realizing it. Like for e.g. worshipping to show off in front of others etc.

So before doing any good deed we must ensure our intentions are ONLY to please Allah. Having the right intentions will increase the sincerity in our worship and enable us to earn greater rewards for every good deed we do, even if it is a little good deed.

Ibn Al-Mubaarak said: “Maybe a small action is made great by its intention, and maybe a great action is made small by its intention.” 

Daily routines like eating, drinking, sleeping, traveling etc can be a source of great reward by having the right intentions. Having good Intentions is easy & great rewards can be gained without making any hard physical effort. By just spending a couple of seconds having the right intention in our hearts we can turn a whole day to a day of worship. Like turning dust into gold.

Sincerety (Ikhlas)

10. How much reward we get for our good deeds or whether we get any reward at all, depends on the level of sincerety (Ikhlas) we have whilst doing good deeds. The more sincere we are the more we will be rewarded. The less sincerity we have the less we will be rewarded, if at all.

Therefore it is crucial that we do our utmost do be as sincere as possible when doing good actions. We must ONLY do every action for the pleasure of Allah and try our best never to reveal what good we have done to anyone else. The best good deeds are those that are hidden from others.

So let us be sincere as posible whilst doing good deeds and hide them from others as much as possible.

Tahajjud (The Night Prayer)

11. One of the best ways of getting closer to Allah is by praying the Nawafil (voluntary) prayers. The best Nawafil prayer is Tahajjud. It can be prayed from after the Isha prayer up until when Fajr begins.

Tahajjud can be prayed straight after Isha or before going to sleep. The best time to pray Tahajjud is to sleep first and then wake up to pray in the third part of the night. So you calculate how many hours there are from Maghrib up until Fajr and divide the hours by 3 and pray in the third part of the night.

12. Pray between 2-12 Raka’a of Tahajjud prayer. It is recommended to pray at least 8 Raka’a’s. One should recite as much Qur’an as one knows in each Raka’a and make long Ruku and prostrations (Sajda).

13. At the time of Tahajjud Dua’s are readily accepted, so it is the best opportunity for one to make long, sincere and intense Dua’s, asking of Allah, crying if one can as Allah tends to his slave who cries in Dua quicker, just as a mother tends quickly to its crying baby. But the love that Allah has for his slave is MUCH MUCH more than a mother.


Repentance

“Do not despair of Allah’s mercy; He will forgive you of all your sins”.Qur’an (39:53).

14. Do as much Isthighfar (repentance) as possible from awakening until asleep at night. For Allah loves those who repent much and ask of him for his mercy and forgiveness. Especially in the latter part of the night when most are deep in their sleep. He loves to forgive and finds every excuse to forgive his slaves. Therefore ask of Allah for forgiveness as much as possible.

15. One should recite much of the following Dua: Asthaghfirullah halladhee laa ilaaha ilallahuwal hayyul qayyumu wa athubu ilay 

I seek forgiveness from Allah besides whom there is none worthy of worship, the living, the Sustainer of life and to Him I repent. (Tirmidhi-Vol.2, pg.177)

16. Seeking forgiveness for every believer will earn a reward for every believer we ask Allah to forgive: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever seeks forgiveness for the believing men and believing women, Allah will write for him a good deed for each believing man and believing woman.” (Tabarani)

Dua (Supplication)

17. Do the Sunnah’s of making Dua

18. To abstain from haraam (forbidden) food, clothing and earnings.
(Muslim, Tirmidhi) as doing haraam will prevent ones Dua being accepted

19. To make Wudu before the Dua (All six major Hadith collections)

20. To make Dua with sincerity. In other words, one should firmly believe that nobody but Allah will fulfil his objectives. (Hakim) 

21. Try to cry whilst making Dua to Allah as he attends to his servants quicker when they are crying with meekness and humility just as a mother tends to her baby quickly when it cries out for its mother. If one cannot cry then one must at least try and simulate the act of crying.

22. Do not be impatient with the acceptance of Dua’s. In other words, don’t say: “I’ve made Dua repeatedly but to no avail.” (Bukhari, Muslim)


Travel

23. Do the Sunnah’s and Dua’s of travel

24. When one ascends or attempts to reach any height then one should say: “Allaahu Akbar”:- Allah is the greatest. 

25. When descending from any height then one should say: “Subhaanallah”:- Purity belongs to Allah.

26. When one slips or experiences an accident they should say: “Laa ilaaha ilallaahu wallaahu akbar”:– There is no worthy of worship except Allah he is the greatest. (Hisnul Hasin)

Masjid (Mosque)

27. Men should strive to pray every Fard Salaah at the Masjid as the Salaah is rewarded 27 times or more and each step is rewarded. Women get the same reward for praying at home.

Abu Hurairah also reports that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: By Him in whose hand is my soul! I have considered ordering a fire to be kindled and then ask someone to lead the people in Salaah. And then go to the men [who did not attend the prayer] and burn their houses over them.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

28. For more reward & also to increase blessings in ones home Men should pray Sunnah’s and Nafils at home. If one knows one will get lazy at home then one should pray Sunnah’s in the Masjid.

29. Always do the Sunnah’s of leaving/entering the house.

30. Try to go the longest way to Masjid and take small steps for each step is rewarded and one is rewarded more for arriving early for the Adhan doing worship and Dua until Iqamah.

31. Always do the Sunnah’s of entering/leaving the Masjid.

32. Always pray 2 Raka’a Tahiyyatul Masjid on arrival at the Masjid: 

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:“When one of you enters the Masjid, let him not sit until he prays two Raka’a’s”. (Bukhari and Muslim). 

33. Always take care to respect the Adaab (etiquette) of the Masjid)

34. On entering Masjid Always make intention of Nafil I’thikaaf on entering Masjid for reward for duration of stay at the Masjid.

35. Always do Sunnah’s of Adhan & Iqamah. Dua in between Adhan and Iqamah is readily accepted.

36. Strive to pray every prayer in the front row:

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “If the people knew what (reward) there is in the call (Adhan) and praying in the first row, and there was no other way to settle the matter than drawing lots, then they would draw lots for it”. (Bukhari and Muslim) 

37. Care should be taken that the rows are straightened when praying with congregation

Women on menses 

38. Women on their menses can still gain the same rewards by: Doing excessive Dhikr, making sincere Dua and repentance, listening to Qur’an, reading Islamic books, listening to lectures, pondering and contemplating over the greatness of Allah, Sadaqa and giving in charity, looking after their family,partner,children and relatives, serving their parents, giving dawah, doing charitable work and helping their local communities etc.

Praying Nawafil (voluntary) prayers

39. What better way of drawing closer to Allah than by praying the voluntary prayers:

Allah says in Hadith Qudsi:

….And My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (voluntary deeds) until I love him, [Bukhari]

40. Want the company of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in Jannah? 

Rabi’ah Ibn Malik al-Aslami reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam) said: “Ask (anything).” Rabi’ah said: “I ask of you to be your companion in paradise.” The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Or anything else?” Rabi’ah said: “That is it.” The Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam) said to him: “Then help me by making many prostrations (i.e., Nawafil prayers).” (Muslim)

41. A palace in Paradise for those who pray 12 units of voluntary prayers everyday: – 2 Sunnah of Fajr, 4 Sunnah & 2 Sunnah of Dhuhr & 2 Sunnah of Maghrib

Umm Habibah Ramilah bint Abu Sufyan (RA) narrated she heard the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) saying: “A house will be built in Paradise for every Muslim who offers twelve units of Prayers other than the obligatory ones in day & night, to seek pleasure of Allah.” (Sahih Muslim)

We should try to make the best of every opportunity we have in our day, in order to do Nawafil (voluntary) prayers for it will help us in the grave and in the hereafter and it will make us closer to Allah and enable us to be in the company of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in Jannah.

Fajr Salaah

42. Do the Sunnah’s of Fajr Salaah

43. Every Fard prayer must be prayed on time. Pray every prayer like it is your last fully concentrating(khushu) imagining Allah in front of you watching you pray.

44. Men should try their best to pray Fajr with jamaat (congregation) and women get the same reward praying at home.

Reward for praying Isha and Fajr with congregation: Usman (Ra) has reported that he heard the Prophet, (Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam) say: “The person who observes the Isha prayer in congregation, will have the reward and blessings of staying up half the night in prayer, and the one who observes the Fajr prayer in congregation will have the reward and blessings of staying up the whole night in prayer.” (Tirmidhi)

45. Always do the Adhkar and Sunnah’s after the completion of every Salaah. Especially reciting Subhanallah (33 times), Alhamdulillah (33 times) andAllahu Akbar (34 times). Also recite Ayatul Kursi after every Fard Salaah.

46. The time between Fajr and sunrise is blessed, so after the Fajr prayer remain seated and recite the Qur’an, Dhikr and make Dua up until 20 minutes after Sunrise, then pray 2×2 Raka’a (4 Raka’a altogether) of Salaatul Duha and gain rewards like having done Nafil Hajj/Umra (Tirmidhi). 

The fire of Jahannam will not touch the person who reads 4 Raka’a’s of Salaatul Duha (Baihaqi)

Note: It is forbidden to pray any voluntary (Nawafil) prayer after Fajr up until 20 minutes after Sunrise.

Earn livelihood/studying and learning after Fajr

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) made a very beautiful Dua for the Ummah for blessings in the mornings: ‘O Allah, bless my Ummah in the mornings.’ (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

So the mornings are blessed and should be spent being productive: 

47. Going out and earning a halal livelihood.

48. Quran Memorization/Recitation: The mind is at its freshest at this time and is like a sponge. So one should aim to memorize as much of the Qur’an as one can. At least one Ayah daily.

One can also read some Tafsir, by learning the meanings of at least one page of the Quran daily. One should also memorize daily Dua’s and Adhkar.

49. Reading Islamic material: like Hadith books, Stories of the Prophets, Seerah, Hereafter etc…

50. Exercise: The mornings are a very good time to exercise as it actually gives us more energy throughout the day and helps one to sleep better at night. The exercises do not have to be for too long. They can even be 20-30 minutes.

Exercises can include: Brisk walk, Jogging, cycling, swimming, resistance or aerobics/cardiovascular exercises and anything that builds one’s stamina which really helps in one’s worship throughout the day.

Planning and Monitoring Daily Worship

51. One of the best ways to maximize our daily worship is to plan & schedule our time so that we spend it as effectively and productively as possible. By setting ourselves daily worship targets we can strive to try and achieve them everyday.

Avoiding distractions

53. There are many things in our daily lives which not only distract us from our purpose in life but also waste a significant amount of our precious time. Ibn Qayyim said that wasting time is worse than death itself. This is because once time has gone it will never come back.

That is why it is crucial that we get rid of anything that is getting in the way of our worship. It makes sense to get rid of the major distractions (or at least limit distractions as much as possible) like TV, internet, games consoles and even useless talk with friends.

We should also try and fulfil our daily responsiblities and duties quickly so that we can have more time free and spend it worshiping Allah.

Breakfast

54. If one is not fasting then one should make arrangements to have a good breakfast in to energise one for the day ahead as this will also help us in being able to worship properly throughout the day.

55. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) used to have honey water for breakfast. (warm water with one or two teaspoons of honey). He is also reported to have had “Nabidhe Tamar” in some narrations. Nabidhe Tamar is dried dates which have been cut into pieces and soaked in a clay container overnight. (Tirmidhi)

Eating and drinking

56. Always do the Sunnah’s of eating/drinking. Reciting the name of Allah before eating and drinking, and thanking him sincerely throughout and after eating and drinking.

57. Eat and drink with the intention of nourishing the body to fulfil its rights and to grow stronger for Allah’s worship. This way eating and drinking becomes like worship as does any act with the right intentions.

58. Some Sunnah foods include: Olive oil, Pomegranate, Honey, Vinegar, Dates, Melon, Talbina (Barley flour), pumpkin.

Salaatul Duha

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallim)In the morning charity is due from every bone in the body of every one of you. Every utterance of Allah’s glorification is an act of charity (Subhan Allah). Every utterance of praise of Him is an act of charity (Alhamdulillah), every utterance of profession of His Oneness is an act of charity (Laa ilaha ill Allah), every utterance of profession of His Greatness is an act of charity (Allahu Akbar), enjoining good is an act of charity, forbidding what is distreputable is an act of charity, and two rak’ahs which one prays in the forenoon will suffice. [Muslim]

59. Always strive to Pray Salaatul Duha everyday from 20 minutes after sunrise up until 20 minutes before Dhuhr begins. It is between 2 – 12 Raka’a. It is preferable to perform at least 8. (Raddul Mukhtaar vol.1 pg.505)

Praying 2 Raka’a’s: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: ‘whoever offers 2 Raka’a’s of Salaat al-Dhuha, all his sins will be forgiven even though they are as much as the foam of the sea.’ (Ibid)

Praying 12 Raka’a’s: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: ‘whoever prayed twelve Raka’a’s at the time of breakfast then Allah will, as a reward, prepare a palace of gold for him in Paradise. (Mishkaat, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

Afternoon

Dhuhr Salaah

60. Men should pray Dhuhr at the Masjid and women at home.

61. Do the Sunnah’s of Dhuhr.

62. Always pray the 4 Raka’a and 2 Raka’a Sunnah and 2 Raka’a Nafil of Dhuhr: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is reported to have said:“Whoever performs the four Raka’a’s before and after the Dhuhr Salaat with constancy, Allah makes the fire of Hell haraam (forbidden) for him.”(Mishkaat, p. 104; Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Nasai, Ibn Majah)

Taking a Short nap (Qayloolah) before or after Dhuhr

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Take the noon nap, for the Shaytaan does not nap.” (Tabarani)

63. If one is not occupied then one can fulfil a very beneficial Sunnah which is to take a short nap before or after Dhuhr which should around 20 minutes and no more than 30 minutes. Our righteous Ulama (Scholars) have taken this Sunnah very seriously, as it is one of the tested means that assist in getting up for night vigil (Tahajjud) prayer.

Having a short nap in the afternoon energizes one throughout the day because in the afternoon the average person would have had upto 8 hours of being awake and so having a short nap will give one a much needed energy boost throughout the rest of the day. A short nap also helps one to wake up for Tahajjud prayers in the latter part of the night.

Dawah

64. Throughout the day every opportunity we get, we should do our utmost to give dawah (invite to Allah) and enjoin good and forbid evil as is our duty as Muslims. We should invite Muslims and non Muslims towards Allah and approach them in the best manner possible showing good character, manners and etiquette. For the best character is the best dawah.

There are many different means to give Dawah, such as weekly text message Islamic reminders, Islamic E mail reminders once a month, Online Dawah on the internet through forums and social network sites.

65. We can also give dawah to people we know or have in our phone books, by first calling them and seeing how they are and then inviting them towards Allah. We can also give dawah to whoever we come across in our daily lives that we may know or don’t know (of the same gender of course).

Remember: Just one good word is the difference between a person gaining guidance and the rest of our lives we gain the rewards of every good deed they do without their rewareds being diminished in the slightest.

Greet Muslims where ever you are

66. Greet another Muslim whom you know and don’t know with: Asalaamu Alaikum Warahmatullaahi Wabarakaathuh: “Peace, mercy and blessings of Allah descend upon you”

The person who greets first without waiting for the other person to greet is closer to Allah (Sahih Bukhari).

67. Greet your brother with a smile: “Never belittle anything from good deeds even if you meet your brother with a smiling face.” (Sahih Muslim, 6690)

Serve your parents

68. Serving ones parents is among the best of deeds:

A man came to the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) and said: “I wish to participate in Jihaad, but I cannot afford it” The Prophet (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) enquired if any of his parents were alive, to which he said: “Yes! My mother is alive” The Prophet (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “Show Allah how your serve her. If you do so (duly) you will be like a: Haaji, a Mu’tamir (one doing ‘Umrah) and a Mujaahid (One striving in Allah’s way).”(Tabarani)

69. Look for every excuse to serve your parents and treat them with utmost honor and respect, otherwise one will regret it forever:

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “May he be humiliated. May he be humiliated. May he be humiliated!” The companions asked “Messenger of Allah! Who?” The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “He who has his parents, or one of them, in their old age yet he goes to Hell (because of disservice to them).” (Ahmed)

So we should look for EVERY excuse to serve our parents for we will regret the opportunities we missed not serving them and being the best towards them.

Maintain ties of kinship

70. If one wants a long life then one should maintain ties of kinship at all times: 

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever loves to be granted ample provisions and a long life, should maintain good ties with his or her relatives.” (Sahih Al-Bukhaari).

71. Maintaining ties of kinship does not mean visiting, helping or serving one’s relatives in return for similar deeds on their part. True upholding of family relations is to do with those kith and kin who sever their bond with us.

It refers to visiting relatives who do not visit us, and being good to those who wrong us: 

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “A man who perfectly maintains the ties of kinship is not he who recompenses the good done to him by his relatives; rather, he is the one who is on agreeable terms with those kin who have severed [their] bond with him.” (Sahih Al-Bukhaari)

So let us visit those of our relatives who do not visit us and if they treat us badly then let us give them goodness in return for our reward is with Allah and we are only doing it for his pleasure.

Giving Sadaqa

72. We should strive as much as possible to give in charity to those who are less fortunate than ourselves. We are giving from what Allah has given to us. Allah asks us to give to others as a loan to him.

When a person gives for the pleasure of Allah then they are not losing any wealth but that Allah will increase it: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallim) said: “Charity does not in any way decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation (of the people).” (Muslim Vol. 4, Hadith 6264)

73. Sadaqa is more than just giving in wealth: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallim) said: “To smile in the company of your brother is charity.To command to do good deeds and to prevent others from doing evil is charity.To guide a person in a place where he can not getastray is charity.To remove troublesome things like thorns and bones from the road is charity.To pour water from your jug into the jug of your brother is charity.To guide a person with defective vision is charity for you.” (Sahih Bukhari)

74. Sadaqa is an ongoing reward

Sadaqa is an ongoing reward depending on how much people benefit from it. Sadaqa is not only wealth but it is anything that benefits others such as: Beneficial knowledge, removing something dangerous from the path of others, planting a crop or tree that people and animals will benefit from, building a well or a Masjid etc

After death our good deeds stop. Except a person who gave or did an act of Sadaqa by which they continue to be rewarded even after their death. The best on going charity is having a pious child. So let us strive to raise up good and pious children who can benefit mankind aswell as raise our ranks in the hereafter.

75. It is better to conceal what we give or do as sadaqah:

“And whatever you spend in charity or whatever vow you make, be sure Allah knows it all. But the wrongdoers have no helpers. If you disclose (acts of) charity, even so it is well, but if you conceal them and make them reach those (really) in need, that is best for you. It will remove from you some of your (stains of) evil. And Allah is well acquainted with what you do.” (Qur‘an, 2:270-271)


Jummah

76. Make preparations on Thursday for Jummah by doing whatever needs doing like for e.g. trimming hair, nails etc.

77. Do the Sunnah’s of Jummah like making Ghusl, Miswaak, wearing best clothes, perfume (Ittar), Reciting Surah Al- Kahf etc..

78. Proceed early to the Masjid to gain more rewards: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “On the day of Jummah, the angels stand at the entrance of that Masjid in which Jummah Salaat is to be offered. They write down the name of the person who enters the Masjid first, and thereafter the name of the person who follows, and they continue doing this. The person who entered first will receive the reward of sacrificing a camel in the path of Allah; the one who followed him will get the reward of sacrificing a cow, thereafter a chicken, thereafter the reward of giving an egg as charity in the path of Allah. Once the khutbah commences, the angels close the register and begin listening to the khutbah.” (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim)

79. Leave early to try to get space in the front row nearest to Imaam:

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:Whoever does Ghusl on Friday and causes (his wife) to do Ghusl, and sets out early, and comes close to the imam and listens and keeps quiet, for every step he takes he will have the reward of fasting and praying qiyaam for one year.” (al-Tirmidhi, 496)

80. Make small steps to Jummah as every step is the reward of a years Nawafil (voluntary) fast (Tirmidhi)

81. Listen to the Khutbah very attentively, not even warning others to keep quite.

82. Recite durood in abundance on Jummah: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Recite Durood upon me in abundance on the day of Jummah since they are presented to me.” (Ibn Majah)

Note: Set a target of 1000+ durood on Jummah. Recite durood e Ibrahim which is the durood that is recited towards the end of Salaah. Or the shortest durood is: “Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallim”

83. Making abundant Dua to benefit from the special “hour”: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) “There is such an hour on Friday that if any Muslim makes Dua in it, his Dua will definitely be accepted.” (Sahih Bukhari, Muslim)

Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Seek the anticipated hour of Friday after `Asr until sunset” (Sunan al-Tirmidhî (489))

Therefore let us make the best of the precious time between Asr and Maghrib on Jummah by doing excessive worship like reciting the Qur’an, doing Dhikr and making long intense and sincere Dua’s in order to make the best of this “special hour”.

84. Gain the reward of 80 years of Nawafil worship: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever recites the following Durood eighty times immediately after Asr Salaat on Friday, before standing up from his place, Allah will forgive eighty years of (minor) sins and grant him the reward equivalent to eighty years of (Nawafil) worship.” 

Allahumma salli alaa muhammadinin nabiyyil ummiyyi wa-ala aalihi wasallim tasleema. O Allah bless Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, and his family and grant them best of peace. (Jame Sagheer, Tabarrani)

Asr Salaah

85. Men should go to the Masjid for Asr and women at home.

86. Do the Sunnah’s of Asr

87. Praying the 4 Raka’a Sunnah: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “May Allah have Mercy on the one who offers four (rak’ahs) before ‘Asr prayer.” (Abu Dawud)

A person who performs four Raka’a’s before Asr Salaat, will receive a house in Jannah. (Majmauz-Zawaaid vol.2 pg.222).

Between Asr and Maghrib

88. The time between Asr and Maghrib is a blessed time for worshipping Allah. So we should make a habit of remaining in the Masjid after Asr Salaah (or for women to remain seated at their place of prayer) until Maghrib Salaah, doing Dhikrullah (Remembrance of Allah), the recitation of the Qur’an and sincere Dua.

We should make extra effort to worship between Asr on Maghrib on Fridays in particular,

Note: It is forbidden to pray any voluntary (Nawafil) prayer between Asr and Maghrib.

Doing Dhikr


And Allah says: “Those who believe and whose hearts find tranquility in the Remembrance of Allaah, verily in the Remembrance of Allaah do hearts find tranquility.” [Surah Ar-Radd: 28] 

89. The following are 10 Dhikr which are supported by Hadith, that we can recite everyday:

Note: We should try & aim to recite each of these 10 Dhikr’s at least 100 times each which makes a total of 1000 Dhikr a day minimum:

1) Subhaanallah
2) Alhamdulillah
3) Allahu Akbar 
4) Laa ilaaha illallah, 
5) La hawla Wala Quwwata Illah Billah-Hil Aliyyil Adheem, 

6) Asthaghfirullah-halladhee Laa ilaaha illa-huwal Hayyul Qayyuumu Wa athoobu Ilay, Short version: Asthaghfirullah

7) SUB-HAAN’ALLAAHi WA BI-HAM’DIHI SUB-HAAN’ALLAH-IL ADHEEM 
Short version: SUB-HAAN’ALLAAHi WA BI-HAM’DIHI

8) Subhāna-llāhi, wa-l-hamdu li-llāhi, wa lā ilāha illā-llāhu, wa-llāhu akbar. Wa lā hawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-llāhi-l-aliyyi-l-azīm

9) Lā ilāha illā-llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-ḥamdu yuhyi wa yumītu wa huwa ḥayyu-llā yamūtu abadan abada, ḏū-l-jalāli wa-l-ikrām, biyadihi-l-khayr, wa huwa alā kulli Shay-in qadīr
Short version: Laa ilaaha illal-laahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku 
wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shay-in qadeer

10) Subhan Allahi wa bi hamdihi `adada khalqihi wa rida nafsihi wa zinata `arshihi wa midada kalimatihi

Do so much Dhikr that people think you’re insane: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Engage in the Dhikr of Allah in such abundance that people comment that ‘you are insane’.” (Ahmed)

Utter regret for each second wasted without remembering Allah:

Mu`adh Ibn Jabal (RA) said that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The People of Paradise will not regret anything except one thing alone: the hour that passed them by in which they made no remembrance of Allah.” (Bayhaqi in Shu`ab al-iman (1:392 #512-513))

We should not waste a single second in our day without remembering Allah. Every second that we do not remember Allah is a second wasted. Every gathering that Allah is not remembered is a gathering of utter loss and regret on the day of judgement. Remembering Allah is so easy yet we neglect remembering Allah.

Surely we will be in great loss on the day of judgement when we will realise what great rewards we have missed out on. A day when we will beg each other for one good deed and not one person will give it to us. That day we will wish that we said just one Subhanallah more. But it will be too late. So let us act NOW!

Reciting the Holy Qur’an


“Read the Qur’an for verily it will come forth on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its readers.” (Sahih Muslim)

90. The reward for reciting a single letter of the Qur’an: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever reads a letter of the Book of Allah will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a tenfold reward. I do not say that Alif-Laam-Meem is a letter, rather alif is a letter, laam is a letter and meem is a letter.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2910)

91. Aim to recite at least 1 Juz (chapter) a day. If not then half, a quarter or even one page. It is better to recite at least a little each day than to recite a lot sometimes.

92. Recite as much Qur’an as possible especially between Fajr and Sunrise and between Asr and Maghrib.

93. Whilst reciting concentrate on the verses being read imagining Allah is watching you recite them.

94. Read the translation and tafseer of what has been read to understand the deeper meanings of the verses. Then contemplate and ponder over them.

95. Certain Surah’s and their Virtues include:

Surah Fatiha: The Mother of the Qur’an and a cure for every disease (Ath-Thua’lbi )

Surah Yaasin: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whosoever recites Surah Yaasin in the early part of the day his needs will be fulfilled.”(Mishkaat, Page 189)

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Everything has a heart; the heart of the Qur’an is Surah Yaasin. Whoever reads Surah Yaasin (once), Allah records for him a reward equal to that of reading the whole Qur’an ten times.” (Tirmidhi, Darami) 

Surah Mulk: when recited every night protects from the Torment of the Grave (An-Nasai)

Surah Zilzilah: Worth half of the Qur’an

Surah al Kaafirun: Worth quarter of the Qur’an. 

Surah al Ikhlaas: Worth one third of the Qur’an’. (At-Tirmidhi 2818/A)

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said to his Companions: “Are any of you unable to recite a third of the Qur’an in a night?” That was difficult for them and they said, “Which of us is able to do that, Messenger of Allah?” He said, Surah Ikhlas constitutes a third of the Qur’an.’” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6:61)

Surah al Falaq and Surah An Naas protection from Jinn and evil eye: The Prophet (Sallallau Alaihi Wasallam) used to seek refuge from the jinn as well as from the evil eye until Surah al Falaq and An Naas were revealed. When they were sent down, he utilised them and left other things. (At-Tirmidhi #1984)

Maghrib Salaah

96. Men should Pray Maghrib at the Masjid and women at home

97. Do all the Sunnah’s of Maghrib

98. Always pray the 2 Sunnah and 2 Nafil of Maghrib. If you want then you can pray more then 2 Nawafil’s after the 2 Sunnah.

Evening

Isha

99. Pray Isha at Masjid. Do the Sunnah’s of Isha.

Praying Isha with congregation is like worshipping half of the night: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “He who prays Isha’ in Jama’ah (congregation) is as if he has prayed for half the night…(Malik, Muslim) 

100. It is Sunnah to pray 4 Raka’a Sunnah before 4 Fard and 2 Raka’a Sunnah after the 4 Fard of Isha (Mishkaat)

101. If one knows one will not wake up for Tahajjud then one can pray 2-12 Raka’a of Tahajjud after the 2 Sunnah after the 4 Fard of Isha.

102. Witr should be the last prayer of the night and is most rewarding when it is prayer after Tahajjud closer to dawn. But if one knows one will not awaken for Tahajjud then one should pray the witr along with Tahajjud before going to sleep.

Sleep

103. Do the Sunnah’s of going to sleep. (See the Sunnah collection)

104. Prepare for sleep

One should prepare for sleep beforehand by covering food, utensils etc, shutting lights, locking doors. Brushing teeth, making Wudu, praying Tahajjud and Witr if one will not awaken for Tahajjud. Putting on alarm etc.

One should recite Surah Mulk and Surah Sajda before sleep (Tirmidhi)

One can also have a little read before going to sleep to relax the mind which may make it easier to fall asleep.

105. Remember Allah whilst falling asleep: One should remember Allah whilst falling asleep as this is most pleasing to Allah.

106. Sleeping immediately after Isha

If after Isha one is not doing anything of importance then it is far better to go to sleep so as to awaken early for Tahajjud or Fajr prayer.

One should not indulge in idle chit chat, watch useless TV programmes or browsing the internet unnecessarily etc after Isha as this will make it harder for one to wake up for Fajr prayers. However if one wants to pray and worship in the night then one should do so providing it does not cause one to miss the Fajr prayer with congregation (for men).

107. Sleep and awaken in third portion of the night

79. It would better for one to sleep straight after Isha and wake up in the third portion of the night which is the best part of the night to worship and make Dua. At this time one should pray the Tahajjud prayer and make sincere Dua’s to Allah, worshipping him until Fajr.

108. Pray Fajr with jamat (congregation)

Men should strive to gain immense rewards and pray fajr with Jamaat (congregation) for such a person will gain rewards of worshipping the whole night.( Sahih Muslim) 

Women gain the same rewards for praying at home. After that one should continue to worship until sunrise and pray 4 Raka’a Salaatul Duha for immense rewards.

Character, etiquette and manners to implement in everyday life

1. Always be patient in every situation and NOT get angry or frustrated with others but rather think to yourself that there is NO point or NO good in getting angry or frustrated for the best person is he who controls his anger and frustration.

2. Always smile as the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallim) always smiled at others especially when greeting another Muslim. A smile is charity.

3. Be polite and courteous at all times to everyone you come across in your daily life.

4. Keep gaze low at all times. Take NO more than one glance for the first glance is yours but the second glance is from shaythan.

5. Do NOT backbite, slander or gossip about others. It is best not to talk about people. Rather talk about beneficial matters pertaining to deen and dunya.

6. If any Muslim is being backbitten or slandered then make excuses for them and back them up for Allah will back such a person up in Qiyamah.

7. Do NOT swear or use any profanity for the tongue will speak against you in Qiayamah.

8. Do not make jokes using vile sexual innuendo as a Muslim should have shame and modesty in all matters. He who is not ashamed can do what they want.

9. When stressed then do not say a swear word but instead say “Subhanallah” or “Allahu Akbar”.

10. Do NOT be jealous or envy anyone else apart from whom Allah has blessed with knowledge and wealth and they use it in the right way in the path of Allah.

11. Do NOT think of other Muslims in a bad way or accuse them without any solid proof or evidence but rather make as many excuses for your brothers as possible.

12. When you speak then ONLY speak of that which will benefit you or someone else in this world or the next. If it will cause more harm than good then refrain from saying it.

13. Do not speak if it is not necessary as precious time is wasted
speaking unnecessarily which may cause one to waste time and incur sin.

14. Do NOT mock or make fun of anyone or hurt their feelings. Be very careful and be sensitive about other people’s feelings lest they get recompense on the day of judgement and you lose your good deeds.

15. Treat others how you would want yourself to be treated.

16. Treat others so well that they crave your company and would mourn you after your death.

17. Be the best towards siblings, family and relatives regardless of how they treat you, for your reward is not with them but with Allah.

18. Be the best towards your parents treating them with utmost honour and respect at all times. NEVER answer them back or raise your tone with them but always speak to them in a soft and low tone.

19. Serve your parents as much as possible for serving them is the best of deeds.

20. Help and advice others as much as possible for the pleasure of Allah

21. Do NOT worry or stress about the past because it has gone and made you who you are today or about the future for it may never come. Whatever is destined to happen will happen and you will still get through it regardless. Rather trust in Allah and put your hopes and faith in him for he will get you through ANYTHING and EVERYTHING.

22. Do NOT keep bad company for such company is like poison. Bad friends will stab you in the back on the day of judgement and will stand trial against you so let go of them now otherwise they will destroy you in the hereafter.

23. Instead keep those of piety and good character as friends for they will benefit you in this world and the next.

24. Your body parts will be against you on the day of judgement and will testify against you. So watch and control your tongue, eyes, hands, feet and privates and prevent them from going near minor and especially major sins!

25. When giving advice or dawah then do not become frustrated as guidance is only from Allah and all we can do is inform as best we can.

May Allah enable us to do everything to please him and to maximize our worship each day so that we can get closer to him. Ameen.

Hadiths About the Jummah

“Oh you who believe, When the call is given to the prayer of the day of Jummah then hastentowards the remembrance of Allah and leave all buying and selling.”(The Holy Qur’an, 62:9)

Abu Huraira, (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that the Prophet (pbuh) said: “The fivedaily Salaat, one Jummah Salaah till the next Jummah Salaah and one Ramadhan till the nextRamadhan are all expiations for the time between them provided that major sins are abstainedfrom.” – (Sahih Muslim)

Abu Said Al-Khudri, (may Allah be pleased with him), reported that Allah’s Apostle (pbuh) said,”The taking of a bath on Friday is compulsory for every male (Muslim) who has attained theage of puberty.” – (Sahih Bukhari)

Abu Huraira, (may Allah be pleased with him), reported Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) as saying:“Any person who takes a bath on Friday like the bath of Janaba and then goes for the prayer(in the first hour i.e. early), it is as if he had sacrificed a camel (in Allah’s cause); and whoevergoes in the second hour it is as if he had sacrificed a cow; and whoever goes in the third hour,then it is as if he had sacrificed a horned ram; and if one goes in the fourth hour, then it is as ifhe had sacrificed a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour then it is as if he had offered anegg. When the Imam comes out (i.e. starts delivering the Khutba), the angels presentthemselves to listen to the Khutba.” – (Sahih Bukhari)

Salman al-Farsi, (may Allah be pleased withhim) spoke about Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) saying: “Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifieshimself as much as he can, then uses his (hair) oil or perfumes himself with the scent of hishouse, then proceeds (for the Jumua prayer) and does not separate two persons sittingtogether (in the mosque), then prays as much as (Allah has) written for him and then remainssilent while the Imam is delivering the Khutba, his sins in-between the present and the lastFriday would be forgiven.” – (Sahih Bukhari)

Hadrat Ibn Umar and Abu Hurayrah, (may Allah be pleased with them), narrate that they heardthe Messenger of Allah (pbuh) saying: “People should abstain from leaving out Friday prayer.If not, Allah Most High will put a seal over their hearts whereby they will fall into severenegligence.” – (Sahih Muslim)

Abu Saeed Khudri, (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that the Prophet (pbuh) said: “Hewho recites Surah Al Kahf on a Friday, Allah will provide him with light from one Friday to thenext Friday.” – (Nasai)

May Allah give us the ability to act upon all of these virtuous deeds and Sunnah of Rasulallah (Pbuh). Ameen.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ


Allaahumma salli a’ala muhammadin wa a’ala aali muhammadin kama sallaita a’ala ibraheema wa a’ala aali ibraheema innaka hameedum majeed. Allahumma barik a’ala muhammadin wa a’ala aali muhammadin kama barakta a’ala ibraheema wa a’ala aali ibraheema innaka hameedum majeed.


O Allah, bestow Your favor on Muhammad and on the family of Muhammad as You have bestowed Your favor on Ibrahim and on the family of Ibrahim, You are Praiseworthy, Most glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim, You are praiseworthy, Most Glorious.

Hadhrat Ali Ibn Abu Taalib (RA) narrated: on the pulpit in the mosque of Kufah: 

When Friday comes, the devils go to the markets with their flags, and involve people in their needs and prevent them from the Friday prayer. The angels come early in the morning, sit at the door of the mosque, and record that so-and-so came at the first hour, and so-and-so came at the second hour until the imam comes out (for preaching). When a man sits in a place where he can listen (to the sermon) and look (at the imam), where he remains silent and does not interrupt, he will receive a double reward. If he stays away, sits in a place where he cannot listen (to the sermon), silent, and does not interrupt, he will receive the reward only once.

If he sits in a place where he can listen (to the sermon) and look (at the imam), and he does not remain silent, he will have the burden of it. If anyone says to his companion sitting besides him to be silent (while the imam is preaching), he is guilty of idle talk. Anyone who
interrupts (during the sermon) will receive nothing (no reward) on that Friday.

Then he (the narrator) says in the end of this tradition: I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)
say so. (Abu Dawood 1046)

1. Jummah preparations should begin on Thursday such as clipping the nails, removing of
the hair etc (Ihya aul-Uloom, vol. 1, page 161)

2. To have a bath (Ghusl) (Bukhari, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

On one Friday, Rasulallah said: “O Muslims! Allah Ta’ala has made this day a day of Eid. So have a bath on this day, whoever has perfume should apply it, and use the Miswaak.
 (Ibn Majah)

3. To use Miswaak (Ibid)

4. To use Attar (Perfume) (Ibid)

5. To wear nice clothes (Abu Dawood, Chapter of Ghusl on the day of Jummah)

6. To proceed early as possible to the Masjid for Jummah

Rasulallah (Pbuh) said: “On the day of Jummah, the angels stand at the entrance of that Masjid in which Jummah salaat is to be offered. They write down the name of the person who enters the Masjid first, and thereafter the name of the person who follows, and they
continue doing this. The person who entered first will receive the reward of sacrificing a
camel in the path of Allah; the one who followed him will get the reward of sacrificing a cow,
thereafter a chicken, thereafter the reward of giving an egg as charity in the path of Allah.
Once the khutbah commences, the angels close the register and begin listening to the
khutbah. “
 (Bukhari and Muslim)

7. To walk to the Masjid if possible for every step is a reward of a years Nafl Fast (Tirmidhi)

8. One should listen very attentively to the khutba even if one does not understand. One
should not speak or even warn another to keep quite while the khutba is in progress.

9. To try to sit as close as possible to the Imaam. (Ibn Majah, Tirmidhi)

10. If the Saffs (rows) are already filled, one should not jump over the shoulders of the
musallies in order to get to the front. (Abu Dawood)

11. One should not fiddle with clothes or fingers but listen attentively (Ibn Majah)

12. When Rasulallah (Pbuh) name is mentioned in the khutba then it is permissible to recite
durood in the heart only without the movement of the lips or tongue.

13. Between the two khutba’s one should make dua. It is permissible to make dua without
raising hands or moving the lips (I.e. dua should be made in the heart only without the
movement of the lips or the tongue) (Aadaab -E – Zindagee)

14. To read: Surah Al A’ala (Sura no 87) in the first rakaat of Jummah Salah and Surah
Gaathia (Surah no 88) in the second rakaat. (Bukhari)

15. Related by Hakim and Bayhaqi, from Abu Sa`id “Whoever recites Surat al-Kahf on Friday, light shall shine forth for him between the two Fridays.” (Ibn Hajar, Talkhis al- Habir)

16. Rasulallah (Pbuh) is reported to have said, “Recite Durood upon me in abundance on the day of Jummah since they are presented to me.” (Ibn Majah)

17 . Making abundant dua on Jummah

Rasulallah (Pbuh) said: “There is such an hour on Friday that if any Muslim makes dua in it, his dua will definitely be accepted.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

18 . Reciting Durood 80 times after Asr:

According to a Hadith recorded in Tabarani on the authority of Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA) :
Abu Hurraira (RA) reports that the Holy Prophet (Pbuh) said: 
“Whoever recites the following Durood eighty times immediately after Asr Salaat on Friday, before standing up from his
place, Allah will forgive eighty years of sins and grant him the reward equivalent to eighty
years of worship.”

Allahumma salli alaa muhammadinin nabiyyil ummiyyi wa-ala aalihi wasallim tasleema

O Allah bless Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, and his family and grant them best of
peace. (Jame Sagheer)

19. Abu Hurraira narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Pbuh) said: The five daily prayers, and from one Jummah to the next, are an expiation for whatever sins come in
between, so long as one does not commit any major sin.
 (Muslim, 233)

20. It was narrated from Abu Hurraira that the Prophet (Pbuh) said: Whoever does Ghusl then comes to Jummah, and prays as much as Allah decrees for him, then listens
attentively until the khutbah is over, then prays with him (the imam), will be forgiven for (his
sins) between that and the next Jummah and three more days.
 (Muslim, 857)

Al-Nawawi (Ra) said:

The scholars said that what is meant by his being forgiven between the two Jummah and
three more days is that a good deed is worth ten like it, so he will be rewarded with ten
rewards for each of the good deeds that he did on Friday. Some of our companions said:
what is meant by what is between the two Jummah is from Jummah prayer and the khutbah
until the same time on the following Friday, so that it will be seven days, no more and no
less, then three days are added making ten in all.

21. Coming early to Jummah brings a great reward.

Abu Hurraira (Ra) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Pbuh) said: “Whoever does Ghusl on Friday like Ghusl for janaabah, then goes to the prayer (in the first hour, i.e., early), it is as if he sacrificed a camel. Whoever goes in the second hour, it is as if he sacrificed a cow;
whoever goes in the third hour, it is as if he sacrificed a horned ram; whoever goes in the
fourth hour, it is as if he sacrificed a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour it is as if he
offered an egg. When the imam comes out, the angels come to listen to the khutbah.”

(Bukhari, 814 and Muslim, 850)

22. If a person walks to Jummah prayer, for every step he will have the reward of
fasting and praying qiyaam for one year.

It was narrated from Aws ibn Aws al-Thaqafi that the Messenger of Allah (Pbuh) said:

Whoever does Ghusl on Friday and causes (his wife) to do Ghusl, and sets out early, and comes close to the imam and listens and keeps quiet, for every step he takes he will
have the reward of fasting and praying qiyaam for one year.” 
(al-Tirmidhi, 496)

Ibn al-Qayyim (Ra) said in Zaad al-Maâ’aad, 1/285:

Finally after quoting the hadith which speak of the virtues of Jummah prayer:

What we have quoted, when taken all together, indicates that the expiation of sins from one
Friday to the next is subject to all the conditions mentioned above being met, namely doing
Ghusl, cleaning oneself, putting on perfume, wearing one’s best clothes, walking in a calm
and dignified manner, not stepping over people, not pushing between two people, not
offending others, praying nafil prayers, listening attentively and avoiding idle speech.

Trust

Trustworthiness is an excellent characteristic and it is one of the best qualities of pious people. ALLAH the Almighty, commanded His faithful Believers to give back trusts to their owners.

“Indeed, ALLAH commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which ALLAH instructs you. Indeed, ALLAH is ever Hearing and Seeing.”

(The Glorious Quran 4:58 )

Capitalism and Islam: what’s the difference?

Is there any real difference between the Capitalist and the Islamic economic system? Both systems allow you to make money, but they are completely different in how money is accumulated and spent. The reasons for such great differences is the source and hence, the ultimate goal of each system.

Capitalism is based on the concept that economics is that which examines man’s needs, which are unlimited and how to satisfy these unlimited needs. The system depends upon the separation of church and state or in other words, the separation of the Creator from life’s affairs. The concept of freedom plays a major role in the Capitalist ideology. Freedom is guaranteed by the state, therefore, man is totally free to satisfy his needs in any manner possible as long as he does not legally infringe on the freedom of others. One needs only to look onto the streets around us to see the devastating results of this form of system. It is because of the freedom of satisfying needs that the pornography and alcohol/drug industry are two of the biggest profit making businesses in the Capitalist system. Is this the type of society in which we want to live and raise our children?

The Islamic economic system is derived from the only source that is capable of satisfying the needs and desires of everyone, without resulting in chaos. The source of these rules is our Creator. Islam, coming from the Creator, does not deny the needs of humans, but instead, it sets guidelines on how these needs and desires are to be fulfilled. As human beings, we have the freedom to use our minds to prove that a Creator does exist, and that Islam is the Creator’s mercy to us to guide our lives and live it with purpose. Once we accept Islam freely, we then follow the rules of Islam. This shows how Islam defines the freedom in our lives. Freedom is living by the best system possible, not creating a system that destroys the lives of human beings.

Capitalism is also based on the theory of relative scarcity. This means that there always has to be a real or as in the majority of cases, a forces insufficiency of commodities to meet the needs of the people. This is not in keeping with the reality life. Today, there are more than enough goods and commodities to satisfy the needs of everyone, but because this in fact, contradicts the principle of relative scarcity, some people are left without the fulfillment of their basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing while others seem to have too much of one or more. This theory divides the society such that a small percentage of people hoard almost all the wealth while the rest of society struggles to have a home and food.

Islam does not share this idea of relative scarcity. Islam does not allow this to happen. The basic needs are guaranteed to every Muslim and non-Muslim living under the rule of Islam. These needs include the tangible, such as adequate food, clothing, and shelter, as well as the intangible, such as medicine, education and security. The primary goal is to have everyone producing and everyone consuming.

The Islamic economic system is not based on price as the method of distribution of goods, but rather, how to distribute funds and benefits to all citizens. With the basic needs satisfied, everyone can live a happier life because people are allowed to search for the livelihood that suits them best and makes them the happiest. The whole society prospers from this system because when people are doing what makes them happy instead of only what makes them money, they are more successful and productive. There may be great economic differences among the people and the means to have the basics for life will be provided for all. This takes into account the fact that people have different skills, motivational levels and entrepreneurial desires and there is no sin in high earnings. The Islamic economic system is just a part of Islam. It cannot be separated from it and discussed as an individual component. Islam ordered the Muslims:

“Seek the abode of the Hereafter in that which Allah has given you, and neglect not your portion of the world, and be kind as Allah has been kind to you and seek not corruption in the earth. [TMQ in English].

Introduction The following is a collection of 40 Hadith Qudsi.
what is Hadith Qudsi and how do they differ from other Hadith?
The following discussion is given in the introduction to the book titled “Forty Hadith Qudsi” published

Hadith Qudsi is the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) as revealed to him by the Almighty Allah.
Hadith Qudsi (or Sacred Hadith) are so named because, unlike the majority of Hadith which are Prophetic Hadith, their authority (Sanad) is traced back not to the Prophet but to the Almighty.

Among the many definitions given by the early scholars to Sacred Hadith is that of as-Sayyid ash-Sharif al-Jurjani (died in 816 A.H.) in his lexicon At-Tarifat where he says:
“A Sacred Hadith is, as to the meaning, from Allah the Almighty; as to the wording, it is from the messenger of Allah (PBUH).
It is that which Allah the Almighty has communicated to His Prophet through revelation or in dream, and he, peace be upon him, has communicated it in his own words. Thus Qur’an is superior to it because, besides being revealed, it is His wording.”

Hadith Qudsi 1:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

When Allah decreed the Creation He pledged Himself by writing in His book which is laid down with Him: My mercy prevails over my wrath.

It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, an-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah.)


Hadith Qudsi 2:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah Almighty has said:

The son of Adam denied Me and he had no right to do so. And he reviled Me and he had no right to do so.

As for his denying Me, it is his saying: He will not remake me as He made me at first (1) – and the initial creation [of him] is no easier for Me than remaking him. As for his reviling Me, it is his saying: Allah has taken to Himself a son, while I am the One, the Everlasting Refuge. I begot not nor was I begotten, and there is none comparable to Me.

(1) i.e., Bring me back to life after death.

Hadith Qudsi 3:

On the authority of Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhaniyy (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

The Messenger of Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) led the Morning Prayer for us at al-Hudaybiyah following rainfall during the night. When the Prophet (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) finished, he faced the people and said to them: Do you know what your Lord has said? They said: Allah and his Messenger know best.

He said: This morning one of my servants became a believer in Me and one a disbeliever. As for him who said: We have been given rain by virtue of Allah and His mercy, that one is a believer in Me, a disbeliever in the stars (2); and as for him who said: We have been given rain by such-and-such a star, that one is a disbeliever in Me, a believer in the stars.

(2) The pre-Islamic Arabs believed that rain was brought about by the movement of stars. This Hadith draws attention to the fact that whatever be the direct cause of such natural phenomena as rain, it is Allah the Almighty who is the Disposer of all things.

It is related by al-Bukhari (also by Malik and an-Nasa’i.)

Hadith Qudsi 4:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah said:

Sons of Adam inveigh against [the vicissitudes of] Time, and I am Time, in My hand is the night and the day (1.)

(1) As the Almighty is the Ordainer of all things, to inveigh against misfortunes that are part of Time is tantamount to inveighing against Him.

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim).


Hadith Qudsi 5:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah (glorified and exalted be He) said:

I am so self-sufficient that I am in no need of having an associate. Thus he who does an action for someone else’s sake as well as Mine will have that action renounced by Me to him whom he associated with Me.

It was related by Muslim (also by Ibn Majah.)

Hadith Qudsi 6:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say:

The first of people against whom judgment will be pronounced on the Day of Resurrection will be a man who died a martyr.

He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His favours and he will recognize them. 

[The Almighty] will say: And what did you do about them? He will say: I fought for you until I died a martyr.

He will say: You have lied – you did but fight that it might be said [of you]: He is courageous. And so it was said.

Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire.

[Another] will be a man who has studied [religious] knowledge and has taught it and who used to recite the Quran. He will be brought and Allah will make known to His favours and he will recognize them.

[The Almighty] will say: And what did you do about them? He will say: I studied [religious] knowledge and I taught it and I recited the Quran for Your sake.

He will say: You have lied – you did but study [religious] knowledge that it might be said [of you]: He is learned. And you recited the Quran that it might be said [of you]: He is a reciter.

And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire. [Another] will be a man whom Allah had made rich and to whom He had given all kinds of wealth.

He will be brought and Allah will make known to his His favours and he will recognize them.

[The Almighty] will say: And what did you do about them?

He will say: I left no path [untrodden] in which you like money to be spent without spending in it for your sake.      

He will say: You have lied – you did but do so that it might be said [of you]: He is open-handed. And so it was said.

Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire.

It was related by Muslim (also by at-Tirmidhi and an-Nasa’i.)

Hadith Qudsi 7:

On the authority of Uqbah ibn Amir (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the messenger of Allah (PBUH) say:

Your Lord delights at a shepherd who, on the peak of a mountain crag, gives the call to prayer and prays. Then Allah (glorified and exalted be He) says: Look at this servant of Mine, he gives the call to prayer and performs the prayers; he is in awe of Me. I have forgiven My servant [his sins] and have admitted him to Paradise.

It was related by an-Nasa’i with a good chain of authorities.

Hadith Qudsi 8:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (PBUH), who said:

A prayer performed by someone who has not recited the Essence of the Quran (1) during it is deficient (and he repeated the word three times), incomplete.

Someone said to Abu Hurayrah: [Even though] we are behind the imam? (2) He said: Recite it to yourself, for I have heard the Prophet (may the blessings and peace of Allah be up on him) say: Allah (mighty and sublime be He), had said: I have divided prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.

When the servant says: Al-hamdu lillahi rabbi l- alamin (3), Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says: My servant has praised Me. And when he says: Ar-rahmani r-rahim (4), Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says: My servant has extolled Me, and when he says: Maliki yawmi d-din (5), Allah says: My servant has glorified Me – and on one occasion He said: My servant has submitted to My power.

And when he says: Iyyaka na budu wa iyyaka nasta in (6), He says: This is between Me and My servant, and My servant shall have what he has asked for. And when he says: Ihdina s-sirata l- mustaqim, siratal ladhina an amta alayhim ghayril-maghdubi alayhim wa la d-dallin (7), He says: This is for My servant, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.

(1) Surat al-Fatihah, the first surah (chapter) of the Qur’an.

(2) i.e. standing behind the imam (leader) listening to him reciting al-Fatihah.

(3) “Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.”

(4)  “The Merciful, the Compassionate”.

(5) “Master of the Day of Judgement”.

(6) “It is You we worship and it is You we ask for help”.

(7) “Guide us to the straight path, the path of those upon whom You have bestowed favors, not of those against whom You are angry, nor of those who are astray”.

Hadith Qudsi 9:

On the authority of Abu Harayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (PBUH), who said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says:

The fist of his actions for which a servant of Allah will be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayers.

If they are in order, then he will have prospered and succeeded: and if they are wanting, then he will have failed and lost. If there is something defective in his obligatory prayers, the Lord (glorified and exalted be He) will say: See if My servant has any supererogatory prayers with which may be completed that which was defective in his obligatory prayers. Then the rest of his actions will be judged in like fashion.

It was related by at-Tirmidhi (also by Abu Dawud, an-Nasa’i, Ibn Majah and Ahmad.)

Hadith Qudsi 10:

On the authority of Abu Harayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (PBUH), who said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says:

Fasting is Mine and it I who give reward for it. [A man] gives up his sexual passion, his food and his drink for my sake. Fasting is like a shield, and he who fasts has two joys: a joy whin he breaks his fast and a joy when he meets his Lord. The change in the breath of the mouth of him who fasts is better in Allah’s estimation than the smell of musk.

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim, Malik, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah).


Hadith Qudsi 11:

On the authority of Abu Harayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (PBUH), who said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

Spend (on charity), O son of Adam, and I shall spen d on you.

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim.)



Hadith Qudsi 12:

On the authority of Abu Mas’ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:

A man from among those who were before you was called to account. Nothing in the way of good was found for him except that he used to have dealings with people and, being well-to-do, he would order his servants to let off the man in straitened circumstances [from repaying his debt]. He (the Prophet p.b.u.h) said that Allah said: We are worthier than you of that (of being so generous). Let him off.

It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari and an-Nasa’i.)

Hadith Qudsi 13:

On the authority of Adiyy ibn Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

I was with the Messenger of Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and there came to him two men: one of them was complaining of penury (being very poor), while the other was complaining of brigandry (robbery).

The Messenger of Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: As for brigandry, it will be but a short time before a caravan will [be able to] go out of Mecca without a guard. As for penury, the Hour (Day of Judgment) will not arrive before one of you takes his charity around without finding anyone to accept it from him. Then (1) one of you will surely stand before Allah, there being no screed between Him and him, nor an interpreter to translate for him.

Then He will say to him: Did I not bring you wealth?

And he will say: Yes. Then He will say: Did I not send to you a messenger? And he will say: Yes. And he will look to his right and will see nothing but Hell-fire, then he will look to his left and will see nothing but Hell-fire, so let each of you protect himself against Hell-fire, be it with even half a date – and if he finds it not, then with a kind word.

(1) i.e. At the time of the Hour. It was related by al-Bukhari.

Hadith Qudsi 14:

On the authority of Abu Harayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (PBUH), who said:

Allah (glorified and exalted be He) has supernumerary angels who rove about seeking out gatherings in which Allah’s name is being invoked: they sit with them and fold their wings round each other, filling that which is between them and between the lowest heaven.

When [the people in the gathering] depart, [the angels] ascend and rise up to heaven. He (the Prophet p.b.u.h.) said: Then Allah (mighty and sublime be He) asks them – [though] He is most knowing about them: From where have you come? And they say: We have come from some servants of Yours on Earth: they were glorifying You (Subhan Allah), exalting you (Allah u akbar), witnessing that there is no god but You (La ilaha illa llah), praising You (Al-Hamdu lillah), and asking [favours] of You.

He says: And what do they ask of Me? They say: They ask of You Your Paradise. He says: And have they seen My Paradise? They say: No, O Lord. He says: And how would it be were they to have seen My Paradise! They say: And they ask protection of You.

He says: From what do they ask protection of Me? They say: From Your Hell-fire, O Lord. He says: And have they seen My Hell-fire? They say: NO. He says: And how would it be were they to have seen My Hell-fire: They say: And they ask for Your forgiveness.

He (the Prophet p.b.u.h) said: Then He says: I have forgiven them and I have bestowed upon them what they have asked for, and I have granted them sanctuary from that from which they asked protection.

He (the Prophet p.b.u.h) said: They say: O Lord, among then is So-and-so, a much sinning servant, who was merely passing by and sat down with them. He (the Prophet p.b.u.h) said: And He says: And to him [too] I have given forgiveness: he who sits with such people shall not suffer.

It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, at-Tirmidhi, and an-Nasa’i).

Hadith Qudsi 15:

On the authority of Abu Harayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Prophet (PBUH) said: Allah the Almighty said:

I am as My servant thinks I am (1). I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assemble better than it. And if he draws near to Me an arm’s length, I draw near to him a fathom’s length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed.

(1) Another possible rendering of the Arabic is: “I am as My servant expects Me to be”. The meaning is that forgiveness and acceptance of repentance by the Almighty is subject to His servant truly believing that He is forgiving and merciful. However, not to accompany such belief with right action would be to mock the Almighty.

Hadith Qudsi 16:

On the authority of son of Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), among the sayings he related from his Lord (glorified and exalted be He) is that He said:

Allah has written down the good deeds and the bad ones. Then He explained it [by saying that] he who has intended a good deed and has not done it, Allah writes it down with Himself as a full good deed, but if he has intended it and has done it, Allah writes it down with Himself as from ten good deeds to seven hundred times, or many times over. But if he has intended a bad deed and has not done it, Allah writes it down with Himself as a full good deed, but if he has intended it and has done it, Allah writes it down as one bad deed.
It was related by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

Hadith Qudsi 17:

On the authority of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (PBUH) is that among the sayings he relates from his Lord (may He be glorified) is that He said:

O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another.

O My servants, all of you are astray except for those I have guided, so seek guidance of Me and I shall guide you, O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you.

O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you.

O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you.

O My servants, you will not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and will not attain benefiting Me so as to benefit Me. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, that would not increase My kingdom in anything.

O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any one man of you, that would not decrease My kingdom in anything.

O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more that a needle decreases the sea if put into it.

O My servants, it is but your deeds that I reckon up for you and then recompense you for, so let him finds good praise Allah and let him who finds other that blame no one but himself.

Hadith Qudsi 18:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) will say on the Day of Resurrection:

O son of Adam, I fell ill and you visited Me not.

He will say: O Lord, and how should I visit You when You are the Lord of the worlds?

He will say: Did you not know that My servant So-and-so had fallen ill and you visited him not? Did you not know that had you visited him you would have found Me with him?

O son of Adam, I asked you for food and you fed Me not.

He will say: O Lord, and how should I feed You when You are the Lord of the worlds? He will say: Did you not know that My servant So-and-so asked you for food and you fed him not?

Did you not know that had you fed him you would surely have found that (the reward for doing so) with Me?

O son of Adam, I asked you to give Me to drink and you gave Me not to drink.

He will say:O Lord, how should I give You to drink when You are the Lord of the worlds?

He will say: My servant So-and-so asked you to give him to drink and you gave him not to drink.

Had you given him to drink you would have surely found that with Me.

It was related by Muslim.

Hadith Qudsi 19:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

Pride is my cloak and greatness My robe, and he who competes with Me in respect of either of them I shall cast into Hell-fire.
It was related by Abu Dawud (also by Ibn Majah and Ahmad) with sound chains of authority. This Hadith also appears in Muslim in another version.

Hadith Qudsi 20:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

The gates of Paradise will be opened on Mondays and on Thursdays, and every servant [of Allah] who associates nothing with Allah will be forgiven, except for the man who has a grudge against his brother. [About them] itwill be said: Delay these two until they are reconciled; delay these two until they are reconciled.
It was related by Muslim (also by Malik and Abu Dawud.)


Hadith Qudsi 21:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said that Allah the Almighty said:

There are three (1) whose adversary I shall be on the Day of Resurrection: a man who has given his word by Me and has broken it; a man who has sold a free man (2) and has consumed the price; and a man who has hired a workman, has exacted his due in full from him and has not given him his wage.

(1) i.e. Types of men.

(2) i.e. A man who has made a slave of another and has sold him.
It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Ibn Majah and Ahmad ibn Hanbal).

Hadith Qudsi 22:

On the authority of Abu Sa’id (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

Let not any one of you belittle himself. They said: O Messenger of Allah, how can any one of us belittle himself? He said: He finds a matter concerning Allah about which he should say something, and he does not say [it], so Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says to him on the Day of Resurrection: What prevented you from saying something about such-and-such and such-and-such? He says: [It was] out of fear of people. Then He says: Rather it is I whom you should more properly fear.
It was related by Ibn Majah with a sound chain of authorities.


Hadith Qudsi 23:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah will say on the Day of Resurrection:

Where are those who love one another through My glory? Today I shall give them shade in My shade, it being a day when there is no shade but My shade.

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Malik.)


Hadith Qudsi 24:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

If Allah has loved a servant [of His] He calls Gabriel (on whom be peace) and says: I love So-and-so, therefore love him. He (the Prophet pbuh) said: So Gabriel loves him.

Then he (Gabriel) calls out in heaven, saying: Allah loves So-and-so, therefore love him. And the inhabitants of heaven love him. He (the Prophet pbuh) said: Then acceptance is established for him on earth. And if Allah has abhorred a servant [of His], He calls Gabriel and says: I abhor So-and-so, therefore abhor him.

So Gabriel abhors him. Then Gabriel calls out to the inhabitants of heaven: Allah abhors So-and-so, therefore abhor him. He (the Prophet pbuh) said: So they abhor him, and abhorrence is established for him on earth.
It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, Malik, and at-Tirmidhi.)


Hadith Qudsi 25:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him.

When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him.
It was related by al-Bukhari

Hadith Qudsi 26:

On the authority of Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

Truly of those devoted to Me the one I most favour is a believer who is of meagre means and much given to prayer, who has been particular in the worship of his Lord and has obeyed Him inwardly (1), who was obscure among people and not pointed our, and whose sustenance was just sufficient to provide for him yet he bore this patiently. Then the Prophet (pbuh) rapped his hand and said: Death will have come early to him, his mourners will have been few, his estate scant.

(1) i.e. He has not been ostentatious in his obedience.
It was related by at-Tirmidhi (also by Ahmad bin Hanbal and Ibn Majah). Its chain of authorities is sound.

Hadith Qudsi 27:
On the authority of Masruq, who said:

We asked Abdullah (i.e. Ibn Masud) about this verse: And do not regard those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead, rather are they alive with their Lord, being provided for (Quran Chapter 3 Verse 169).

He said: We asked about that and the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: Their souls are in the insides of green birds having lanterns suspended from the Throne, roaming freely in Paradise where they please, and then taking shelter in those lanterns. So their Lord cast a glance at them (1) and said: Do you wish for anything? They said: What shall we wish for when we roam freely in Paradise where we please? And thus did He do to them three times. When they say that they would not be spared from being asked [again], they said: O Lord, we would like for You to put back our souls into our bodies so that we might fight for Your sake once again. And when He saw that they were not in need of anything they were let be.

(1) i.e. At those who had been killed in the cause of Allah.
It was related by Muslim (also by at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah).

Hadith Qudsi 28:

On the authority of Jundub ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

There was amongst those before you a man who had a wound. He was in [such] anguish that he took a knife and made with it a cut in his hand, and the blood did not cease to flow till he died.

Allah the Almighty said: My servant has himself forestalled Me; I have forbidden him Paradise.
It was related by al-Bukhari.


Hadith Qudsi 29:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says:

My faithful servant’s reward from Me, if I have taken to Me his best friend from amongst the inhabitants of the world and he has then borne it patiently for My sake, shall be nothing less than Paradise.
It was related by al-Bukhari.


Hadith Qudsi 30:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

If My servant likes to meet Me, I like to meet him; and if he dislikes meeting Me, I dislike meeting him. Prophetic explanation of this Sacred Hadith: He who likes to meet Allah, Allah likes to meet him; and he who dislikes meeting Allah, Allah dislikes meeting him.

Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Prophet of Allah, is it because of the dislike of death, for all of us dislike death? The Prophet (pbuh) said: It is not so, but rather it is that when the believer is given news of Allah’s mercy, His approval and His Paradise, he likes to meet Allah and Allah likes to meet him; but when the unbeliever is given news of Allah’s punishment and His displeasure, he dislikes to meet Allah and Allah dislikes to meet him.
It was related by al-Bukhari and Malik. The Prophetic version is related by Muslim.

Hadith Qudsi 31:

On the authority of Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) related:

A man said: By Allah, Allah will not forgive So-and-so. At this Allah the Almighty said: Who is he who swears by Me that I will not forgive So-and-so? Verily I have forgiven So-and-so and have nullified your [own good] deeds (1) (or as he said [it].)

(1) A similar Hadith, which is given by Abu Dawud, indicates that the person referred to was a goldly man whose previous good deeds were brought to naught through presuming to declare that Allah would not forgive someone’s bad deeds.
It was related by Muslim.


Hadith Qudsi 32:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

A man sinned greatly against himself, and when death came to him he charged his sons, saying:

When I have died, burn me, then crush me and scatter [my ashes] into the sea, for, by Allah, if my Lord takes possession of me, He will punish me in a manner in which He has punished no one [else]. So they did that to him. Then He said to the earth: Produce what you have taken-and there he was! And He said to him: What induced you to do what you did? He said: Being afraid of You, O my Lord (or he said: Being frightened of You) and because of that He forgave him.

It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, an-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah).

Hadith Qudsi 33:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (PBUH), from among the things he reports from his Lord (mighty and sublime be He), is that he said:

A servant [of Allah’s] committed a sin and said: O Allah, forgive me my sin. And He (glorified and exalted be He) said: My servant has committed a sin and has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them. Then he sinned again and said: O Lord, forgive me my sin. And He (glorified and exalted be He) said: My servant has committed a sin and has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them. Then he sinned again and said: O Lord, forgive me my sin. And He (glorified and exalted be He) said: My servant has committed a sin and has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for sins. Do what you wish, for I have forgiven you.
 It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari.)


Hadith Qudsi 34:

On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say: Allah the Almighty said:

O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind.

O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you.

O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great at it.
It was related by at-Tirmidhi (also by Ahmad ibn Hanbal). Its chain of authorities is sound.

Hadith Qudsi 35:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

Our Lord (glorified and exalted be He) descends each night to the earth’s sky when there remains the final third of the night, and He says:

Who is saying a prayer to Me that I may answer it?

Who is asking something of Me that I may give it him? Who is asking forgiveness of Me that I may forgive him?

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim, Malik, at-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud.)
In a version by Muslim the Hadith ends with the words:
And thus He continues till [the light of] dawn shines.



Hadith Qudsi 36:

On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (PBUH), who said:

The believers will gather together on the Day of Resurrection and will say: Should we not ask [someone] to intercede for us with our Lord? So they will come to Adam and will say: You are the Father of mankind; Allah created you with His hand He made His angels bow down to you and He taught you the names of everything, so intercede for us with you Lord so that He may give us relief form this place where we are.

And he will say: I am not in a position [to do that] – and he will mention his wrongdoing and will feel ashamed and will say: Go to Noah, for he is the first messenger that Allah sent to the inhabitants of the earth.

So they will come to him and he will say: I am not in a position [to do that] – and he will mention his having requested something of his Lord about which he had no [proper] knowledge ( Holy Quran Chapter 11 Verses 45-46), and he will feel ashamed and will say: Go to the Friend of the Merciful (Abraham). So they will come to him and he will say: I am not in a position [to do that].

Go to Moses, a servant to whom Allah talked and to whom He gave the Torah. So they will come to him and he will say: I am not in a position [to do that] – and he will mention the talking of a life other that for a life (Quran Chapter 28 Verses 15-16), and he will fell ashamed in the sight of his Lord and will say:

Go to Jesus, Allah’s servant and messenger, Allah’s word and spirit.

So they will come to him and he will say: I am not in a position [to do that].

Go to Muhammad (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), a servant to whom Allah has forgiven all his wrongdoing, past and future. So they willcome to me and I shall set forth to ask permission to come to my Lord, and permission will be given, and when I shall see my Lord I shall prostrate myself.

He will leave me thus for such time as it pleases Him, and then it will be said [to me]: Raise your head. Ask and it will be granted.

Speak and it will be heard. Intercede and your intercession will be accepted. So I shall raise my head and praise Him with a form of praise that He will teach me.

Then I shall intercede and HE will set me a limit [as to the number of people], so I shall admit them into Paradise. Then I shall return to Him, and when I shall see my Lord [I shall bow down] as before.

Then I shall intercede and He will set me a limit [as to the number of people]. So I shall admit them into Paradise. Then I shall return for a third time, then a fourth, and I shall say: There remain in Hell-fire only those whom the Quran has confined and who must be there for eternity.

There shall come out of Hell-fire he who has said: There is no god but Allah and who has in his heart goodness weighing a barley-corn; then there shall come out of Hell-fire he who has said: There is no god but Allah and who has in his heart goodness weighing a grain of wheat; then there shall come out of Hell-fire he who has said: There is no god but Allah and who has in his heart goodness weighing an atom.

Hadith Qudsi 37:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah said:

I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen and no ear has heard, not has it occurred to human heart. Thus recite if you wish (1): And no soul knows what joy for them (the inhabitants of Paradise) has been kept hidden (Holly Quran Chapter 32 Verse 17.)

(1) The words “Thus recite if you wish” are those of Abu Harayrah.
It was related by al-Bukhari, Muslim, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah.

Hadith Qudsi 38:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

When Allah created Paradise and Hell-fire, He sent Gabriel to Paradise, saying: Look at it and at what I have prepared therein for its inhabitants. The Prophet (pbuh) said: So he came to it and looked at it and at what Allah had prepared therein for its inhabitants. The Prophet (pbuh) said: So he returned to Him and said: By your glory, no one hears of it without entering it. So He ordered that it be encompassed by forms of hardship, and He said: Return to it and look at what I have prepared therein for its inhabitants. The Prophet (pbuh) said: So he returned to it and found that it was encompassed by forms of hardship (1). Then he returned to Him and said: By Your glory, I fear that no one will enter it. He said: Go to Hell-fire and look at it and what I have prepared therein for its inhabitants, and he fount that it was in layers, one above the other. Then he returned to Him and said: By Your glory, no one who hears of it will enter it. So He ordered that it be encompassed by lusts. Then He said: Return to it. And he returned to it and said: By Your glory, I am frightened that no one will escape from entering it.

(1) The Arabic word used here is “makarih”, the literal meaning of which is “things that are disliked”. In this context it refers to forms of religious discipline that man usually finds onerous.
 It was related by Tirmidhi, who said that it was a good and sound Hadith (also by Abu Dawud and an-Nasa’i.)


Hadith Qudsi 39:

On the authority of Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

Paradise and Hell-fire disputed together, and

Hell-fire said: In me are the mighty and the haughty.

Paradise said: In me are the weak and the poor. So Allah judged between them, [saying]: You are Paradise, My mercy; through you I show mercy to those I wish. And you are Hell-fire, My punishment; through you I punish those I wish, and it is incumbent upon Me that each of you shall have its fill.
It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari and at-Tirmidhi.)

Hadith Qudsi 40: On the authority of Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

Allah will say to the inhabitant of Paradise: O inhabitants of Paradise!

They will say: O our Lord, we present ourselves and are at Your pleasure, and goodness rests in Your hands. Then He will say: Are you contented? And they will say: And how should we not be contented,

O Lord, when You have given to us that which You have given to no one else of Your creation? Then He will say: Would not like Me to give you something better than that? And they will say:

O Lord and what thing is better than that? And He will say: I shall cause My favour to descend upon you and thereafter shall never be displeased with you.

The Oneness of God, Allah (SWT)

The Quran reminds us of the falsity of all alleged gods. To the worshippers of man-made objects, it asks:
“Do you worship what you have carved yourself?” (The Noble Quran 37:95)
“Or have you taken unto you others beside Him to be your protectors, even such as have no power either for good or for harm to themselves?” (The Noble Quran 13:16)
To the worshippers of heavenly bodies it cites the story of Abraham:
“When night outspread over him he saw a star and said, ‘This is my Lord.’ But when it set he said, ‘I love not the setters.’ When he saw the moon rising, he said, ‘This is my Lord.’ But when it set he said, ‘If my Lord does not guide me I shall surely be of the people gone astray.’ When he saw the sun rising, he said, ‘This is my Lord; this is greater.’ But when it set he said, ‘O my people, surely I quit that which you associate, I have turned my face to Him Who originated the heavens and the earth; a man of pure faith, I am not of the idolaters.'” (The Noble 6:76-79)
“If Allah wants to favor someone, He grants him comprehension (understanding) of this religion.”
[Sahih Bukhari vol.1 # 71, Tirmidhi and Musnad Ahmad]
“It is Allah Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me;And when I am ill, it is He who cures me;
“And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink…”And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again);
“And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)”.

Quote: How is it possible for one’s heart to be certain that one is going to meet Allah, that Allah sees and hears all that he does, and knows his secret open affairs, and that he will be made to stand before Allah, answerable for all his deeds – how can one be certain and aware of all of this, and yet persist upon things which displease Allah; persist upon abandoning Allah’s orders, neglecting His rights, and yet claim that he has good expectation of Allah?

“And to ALLAH belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And verily, We have recommended to the people of the Scripture before you, and to you (O Muslims) that you (all) fear ALLAH, and keep your duty to Him, But if you disbelieve, then unto ALLAH belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, and ALLAH is Ever Rich (Free of all wants), Worthy of all praise.”
(The Noble Quran 4:131)
Then learnt Adam from his Lord words of inspiration, and his Lord Turned towards… him; for He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful. (Chapter #2, Verse #37)
Recite to them the truth of the story of the two sons of Adam. Behold! they each presented a sacrifice (to Allah.: It was accepted from one, but not from the other. Said the latter: “Be sure I will slay thee.” “Surely,” said the former, “(Allah) doth accept of the sacrifice of those who are righteous. (Chapter #5, Verse #27)
‎”Allah the Almighty has said: ‘O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me, and hope in Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds in the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I shall forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with an earthful of sins and were you then to face Me, without having associated anything with Me, I shall grant you an earthful of pardon.'” [Al-Tirmidhi]
ALLAH (SWT) Says in the Glorious QURAN: “Call upon me; I will respond to u……”(Holy Quran40:60)
1. Abu hurariah(R.A) narrated that Prophe Muhammad PBUH Saidt: “In the Last third of every night our Rabb (ALLAH SWT) descends to the Lowermost heaven and says: “who is calling me, so that i may answer him” “who is asking me so that may i grant him?
“who is seeking forgiveness from me, so that i may forgive him?
(Sahih Bukhari, & Hadith Qudsi)
2. (Reported by ibn’Abbas & Collected by Tirmidhi) That Prophet  Muhammad(may peace& blessing of Allah be upon him) said:
“If u ask in prayer, ask only ALLAH,& If u seek help, seek it only from Allah.
” ALLAH-HU-AKBAR……
1. When you’re blessed, he is AR-RAHMAN….
2. When you’re hungry. He is AL-RAZZAQ.
3. When you’re honoured. He is AL-MU’IZZ….
4. When you’re weak, he is AL-MOQEET….
5. When u prayed, he is AL-MUJEEB….
6.when you’re gifted, he is AL-KAREEM…..
7. When you’re forgiven, he is AL-GAFOOR…
8. When you’re in the darkness of hopelessness. He is AL-NOOR….
9. When u need a friend, He is AL-WALI……
10.If you’re a sinned, He is AT-TAWWAB….
Hazrat Anas (R.A) reports that the Messenger of Allah (swt) said:

“Whoever says upon leaving from his house: ‘In the name of Allah, I put my trust in Allah. There is no power or might except with Allah,’ it will be said to him: ‘That is sufficient for you…you are guided, defended, and protected and the devil will be driven away from you.”‘

Islam & the Concept of Friendship

Humans have always been social creatures and in need of friends and companions. Much of our lives is spent in interaction with others. For us Muslims who are living in a society where we are clearly a minority, the issue of choosing the right companions is essential for preserving our Deen. Befriending righteous and virtuous Muslims is an essential means for staying on the Straight Path. Strong individuals, on the other hand, are the core of a strong community, something that Muslims should always strive for.
We all know that we were created for a specific purpose and that Allah the Most High has given us life in order to test us. None of us will deny that we are here for a relatively short period of time and that we shall meet Allah (swt) one Day. Once we know our purpose and our goal, we should seek ways to achieve them so as to benefit our own selves. All of us believe that Allah has sent us a Messenger (saws) and revealed to us the Qur’an, the Best Speech.

In an authentic Hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: “A person is likely to follow the faith of his friend, so look whom you befriend.” (1).

The person most noble in character and dealings with fellow humans gave us a very clear message and advice in regard to friendship. We should choose the friend that is satisfied with our Deen and avoid the friend that is displeased with it. Whoever we see and are pleased with his Deen, we should befriend him and whoever we are displeased with his Deen and his manners, we ought to avoid him. There is no good in the companion who does not wish for us (from good) what he wishes for himself. There is also no good in the companion who wishes for us what he wishes for himself, if what he likes for his own soul is leading him towards destruction and Hellfire.

The bases for the actions of those who follow the evil ways are corrupt; their actions are built upon misguidance and deviation. Their deeds are worthless to them as Allah (swt) said: “And We will proceed to what they have done of deeds, so We shall render them to scattered floating dust.” (The Noble Qur’an 25:23)

Their actions, even if we regard them as righteous and noble are of no value to them, so how can they be of benefit to us? Friends are those who feel for their companions, in both happy and sad moments. If we share our feelings with the wrong-doers whose actions are worthless and based on corruption, then we are following the same ways and standards as they are. Affection which results from that friendship leads to love and closeness to other than the righteous believers, and this may even lead to avoiding those who are on the Straight Way. Mixing with followers of any way other than that of the Guidance also results in a change in one’s behavior, morals and conduct.

 


If we agree, follow and are pleased with such friends, then we inherit their habits, behaviors and even religion. Such a Muslim would find himself in a situation wherein he is willing to hide his Islam in front of those who despise it (those that he considers as friends) and to separate from the believers. When this situation occurs, a point is reached when there is a very slight difference between the Muslim and his wrong-doing companion. Such a companionship is the root of sickness of one’s heart and loss of one’s Deen.

Instead of making friends with the misguided ones we should befriend the righteous and treat the rest in a gracious and just manner. Staying at sufficient distance is necessary, yet treating everybody in a noble and kind manner is required.

In another Hadith, Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: “The example of a good companion and a bad companion is like that of the seller of musk, and the one who blows the blacksmith’s bellows.. So as for the seller of musk then either he will grant you some, or you buy some from him, or at least you enjoy a pleasant smell from him. As for the one who blows the blacksmith’s bellows then either he will burn your clothes or you will get an offensive smell from him.” (2)

In his commentary of this Hadith, Imam an-Nawawy said that the Prophet (saws) compared a good companion to a seller of musk and spoke of the virtue of having companions who are good, who have noble manners, piety, knowledge and good culture. Such are those who grant us from their virtue. And he (saws) forbade us to sit with those who do evil, commit a lot of sins and other bad deeds, as well as with innovators, backbiters, and so forth. Another scholar said: “keeping good company with the pious results in attainment of beneficial knowledge, noble manners and righteous actions, whereas keeping company with the wicked prevents all of that.” Many times a Muslim is encouraged by his friends to do evil and to forget his duties. The result is that Muslims themselves are often ashamed to leave them to perform prayer, their friends thus causing them to clearly deviate from the Right Path.

Allah the Exalted says in the Qur’an: “And (remember) the Day when the wrong-doer will bite his hands and say: Woe to me! Would that I had taken a path with the Messenger. Woe to me! If only I had not taken so- and-so as a friend! He has led me astray from this Reminder (the Qur’an) after it had come to me. And Satan is ever a deserter to man in the hour of need.”  (The Noble Qur’an 25:27-29)

So take heed before the inevitable Day comes when we are called to account for our actions.

Almighty Allah, the All-Wise also says: “Friends on that Day will be enemies one to another, except al-Muttaqoon (i.e. those who have Taqwah).” (The Noble Qur’an 43:67)

Hafidh Ibn Katheer, commenting on this verse, relates a story on the authority of Ali Ibn Abi Talib (Karamullahu Wajhahu) and says that any friendship for other than Allah is turned into enmity, except what was in it for Allah the Mighty and Majestic: “Two who are friends for Allah’s sake; one of them dies and is given good news that he will be granted al-Jannah, so he remembered his friend and he supplicated for him, saying: ‘O Allah, my friend used to command me to obey You and to obey Your Prophet (saws) and used to command me to do good and to forbid me from doing evil.And he told me that I will meet You.

O Allah, do not let him go astray after me, until you show him what you have just shown me, until You are satisfied with him, just like You are satisfied with me.’ So he is told: ‘Had you known what is (written) for you friend, would you have laughed a lot and cried a little.’ Then his friend dies and their souls are gathered, and both are asked to express their opinions about each other. So each one of them says to his friend: ‘You were the best brother, the best companion and the best friend.’

And when one of the two disbelieving friends dies, and he is given tidings of Hellfire, he remembered his friend and he said: ‘O Allah, my friend used to order me to disobey You and disobey Your Prophet, and commanded me to do evil, and forbade me from doing good, and told me that I would not meet You. O Allah, do not guide him after me, until you show him what you have just shown me and until you are dissatisfied with him just like You are dissatisfied with me.’ Then the other disbelieving friend dies, and their souls are gathered, and both are asked to give their opinions about each other. So each one says to his friend: ‘You were the worst brother, the worst companion and the worst friend.”

That is the end of those who do not have Taqwah and those who befriend for a sake other than that of Allah the Exalted. Allah has surely spoken the truth and we all should grasp what He has informed us of. It is through the good company that Allah, the Most High, saves those who are astray and guides the wicked. The benefit of mixing with the righteous is immense, and it will, insha’Allah, be even more obvious to us in the Hereafter. One of the early Muslims said that it is from Allah’s blessings upon a youth when he turns to worship that he is given brother who is a follower of the Sunnah encouraging him upon it.

Sealing a friendship for Allah’s sake will result in one’s receiving protection of Allah (swt). And as Ibn Abbas said: “No one may taste true faith except by this (i.e. building relationships for Allah’s sake), even if his prayers and fasts are many. People have come to build their relationship around the concerns of the world, but it will not benefit them in any way.” (3)

A scholar has said: “To seal a friendship for Allah’s sake indicates the obligation of establishing relationships of love and trust for His sake; this is a friendship for the sake of Allah. It also indicates that simple affection is not enough here; indeed what is meant is a love based upon alliance. This entails assistance, honor, and respect. It means being with those whom you love both in word and deed.” Loyalty for the sake of Allah really means to love Allah and to come to the assistance of His Deen; to love those who are obedient to Him and to come to their help. Moreover, the Shahadah “La Ilaha Illa Allah” requires us to ally ourselves for the sake of Allah, and it requires us to ally ourselves to the Muslims wherever we find them.

In two other authentic narration’s of the Prophet (saws) we were commanded to keep company with a believer only (3), and told that a person will be with those he loves (4). So if we love and associate ourselves with those who are misguided, we should fear for our fate. The wise person is the one who prepares himself for the Hereafter, not the one who neglects his faith and falls into the trap of Satan who tells him that he will be forgiven and that he can do whatever he wishes. If we truly believe that the best speech is the Speech of Allah and that he best guidance is the guidance of Prophet Muhammad (saws), we should act in accordance with them, lest we build a proof against ourselves.

Hadhrat Ali Karallahu Wajhahu said: “Mix with the noble people, you become one of them; and keep away from evil people to protect yourself from their evils.” (4)

If we are truly concerned about our fate, we must come to this realisation: those who take us away from remembering Allah, from obeying Him and His Prophet (saws), those who fail to remind us of our daily prayers and those who do not give us sincere advice in regard to our Deen; such are really our foes and not our friends. On the other side, “a believer is the mirror of his brother” (5), and if he sees any faults in the other believer, he draws his attention to it, helps him to give it up and helps him wipe away any evil that he may have.

Ibn Hazm said: “Anyone who criticises you cares about your friendship. Anyone who makes light of your faults cares nothing about you.” (5)

How can we expect sincere advice and exhortation in regard to our religion from those who are displeased with our Deen or are simply indifferent? Are they going to help us achieve the purpose of our life, or will they take us away from it? Will they desire for us Allah’s pleasure or is that Completely irrelevant to them and not their concern at all? Are they leading us to al-Jannah or to the Hellfire? These are the questions we have to ask ourselves, lest we wake up after we die.

“O you who believe! Take care of your own selves. If you follow the right guidance and enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong no hurt can come to you from those who are in error. The return of you all is to Allah, then He will inform you about (all) that which you used to do.” (The Holly Qur’an 5:105)

We ask Allah to make us of the righteous ones and give us companions that will take us away from His Wrath and lead us to His Pleasure and Paradise.

Know that not everyone is suitable to be a friend:

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم  (Mohammad PBUH) said:

الرَّجُلُ عَلَى دِينِ خَلِيلِهِ فَلْيَنْظُرْ أَحَدُكُمْ مَنْ يُخَالِلُ

Man is on the religion of his companion, so let one of you choose whom to befriend.
[Sunan Abu Dau’d : 4193]

There are signs, qualities and indications that help one distinguish and choose whom to be friend and associate with according to what one desires from friendship or companionship.

There are religious and material gains to look for in any friendship or association. Material gains include earning money, fame or just friendship and companionship. Religious gains from friendship include learning religious knowledge and imitating righteous actions and statements, so that one might be helped to repel all types of impurity that might attack the heart and hinder from performing the acts of worship.

Therefore, choose a friend or a companion who is wise, good mannered and righteous, who is neither a sinner, innovator in the religion or fond of this life.

Worshiping/Obeying Only Almighty Allah (One God)

In the Name of Allaah, The Beneficent, The Merciful


Verily all praise is due to Allah.

We praise Him, we seek His Help and ask for His Forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from all the evils in our souls and from our sinful deeds. Whoever Allah guides, no one can mislead and whoever Allah leaves stray, no one can guide.

I bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship except Allah. He is one and has no partners. And

I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and last Messenger. O believers have fear and consciousness of Allah according to His right and die not except as Muslims.

O mankind, have fear and consciousness of your Lord, the One who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and from them spread many men and women. And fear Allah from whom you demand your mutual rights and do not cut off family relations. Surely Allah is Ever an All-Watcher over you.

O believers, have fear and consciousness of Allah and always speak the truth. He will direct you to do righteous deeds and will forgive you your sins. Whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has indeed achieved a great reward.

All the prophets of God including; Adam, Noah, Abraham, Issac, Jacob, and the tribes, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them), invited the people to the same thing, to worship The One God without any partners, son or associates.

Allah, The Exalted said: “Say you (O Muhammad): “This is my way; I invite unto Allah (i.e. to the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism) (with sure knowledge), I and whosoever follows me (also must invite others to Allah i.e. the Oneness of Allah -Islamic Monotheism) with sure knowledge. And Glorified and Exalted is Allah (above all they associate as partners with Him), and I am not of the polytheists.” (The Noble Qur’an 12:108).

All the prophets of God including; Adam, Noah, Abraham, Issac, Jacob, and the tribes, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them), invited the people to the same thing, to worship The One God without any partners, son or associates.

In order to understand why must worship Allah (The One God,) we must first accept the Oneness of the Lordship of Allah i.e. Tawheedur-Ruboobiyyah.

This means to believe that; there is only One Lord for everything that exist, its Creator, Organizer, Originator, Planner, Sustainer, Authority, Giver of Security, etc. and this is Allah (One God).

The belief in the Lordship of One God cannot be separated by the act of worshipping the One God i.e. Tawheedul-Uloohiyyah. This means to believe that none has right to be worshipped (e.g. praying, invoking, asking for help from the unseen, swearing, sacrificing, pilgrimage, fasting, giving charity, etc.) but Allaah.

The final aspect of Tawheed is the On eness of the Names and Attributes of Allah. This means:-

1) We must not name or attribute anything to Allah except with what Allah or His Messenger has named or attributed to Him.

2) None can be named or attributed with the Names or Attributes of Allaah. E.g. The Mighty (Al Azeez).

3) We must confirm all of Allah’s Names and Attributes stated in His book (The Qur’an) or mentioned through His Messenger (Muhammad without changing them or ignoring them completely or twisting the meanings or giving them resemblance to any of the created things. These three aspects of Tauhid are included in the meaning of Laa ilaaha illallaah (None has the right to be worshipped except Allah).

It is essential to follow Allah’s Messenger, Muhammad and it is part of the worship of the One God (Tawheedul-Uloohiyyah).

This is included in the meaning of ” I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,” and this means, “None has the right to be followed after Allah’s Book (The Qur’an), but Allah’s Messenger,” Allah said: “And whatsoever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain from it”. (The Noble Qur’an 59:7).

Laa illaaha illallaah is the foundation of Tawheed (Islamic Monotheism) and Islam. It is a complete system of life, through which, all forms of worship (of Allah) are realized. That happens when a Muslim submits himself to Allah, and calls upon Him alone, and refers all issues (of right and wrong) to His Law, to the exclusion of all other systems of law.

“The word ilah (i.e. God), means the One who is obeyed and not defied, out of one sense of awe and reference, love, fear, and hope, placing one’s trust in Him, asking Him and supplicating Him alone.

Whoever directs any of these matters (which are the rights of Allah) to a created being, has detract from the sincerity of his statement La ilaha illa- Allah.

And he has worshipped that created being to the extent he directed those matters toward it”.

The Prophet Muhammad PBUH said: “Whoever says Laa illaaha illullaah sincerely will enter Paradise”. (Reported by Bazzar and declared authentic by Imaam al-Albaanee in Saheeh al-Jami).

The Prophet Muhammad PBUH said: “Whoever says La illaha illa-Allah, it will be his salvation someday, no matter what befalls him before that.” (This was reported by Baihaqi, declared authentic by Albaanee in Ahaadeeth as-Saheehah #1932).

About Paradise (Jannah)

Qualities/Description of Paradise (Jannah)

When Mu’min will enter into Jannah, it will be announced, we can also say the difference between this world and Jannah (Paradise), 

In this world Humans are becoming Sick, but in Jannah no Sickness/Disease Exist.

In this world there is death but in Paradise death will never come

In this world life is one aspect and there is limited needs and unlimited wants, and the person will be tired of everything  after he/she reached to it like: wealth, position, wants but in Paradise life is not one aspect and no one will be tired from living there.  (Except worshiping almighty Allah, that the person will not be tired of it, because as much your worshiping your getting closer to almighty Allah and you are enjoying from the real/right life and way of living, your love, goal and everything will be for Allah).

1. You will remain healthy forever, disease will never come.
2. You will remain alive for ever, death will never come.
3. You will remain in bounties which will never be finished.

4. You will Remain young for ever…

Jannat is made with:

1. Bricks of Gold and Silver.
2. Its cement is of perfumed Musk.
3. Its chips are pearls and Yaqoot.
4. Its sand is Zafraan.

Doors of Jannah:

There are eight doors of Jannah. These are eight grades of Jannat

1. Jannatul Mava
2. Darul Maqaam
3. Darul Salaam
4. Darul Khuld
5. Jannat-ul-Adan
6. Jannat-ul-Naeem
7. Jannat-ul-Kasif
8. Jannat-ul-Firdous

Foods of Jannah:

They will eat foods and fruits continuously up to 40 years. Every bowl will have a new taste. They will take eructation which will digest the food and there will be perfumed sweating for the digestion of water. There will be no urine and stool.

Here will be gardens in Jannah. Every garden will have the length of about 100 year’s journey. The shadow of these gardens will be very dense. Their plants will be free of thorns. The size of their leaves will be equal to ears of elephants. Their fruits will be hanging in rows.

Jannatul Mava is in the lowest,

Jannat-ul-Adan is the middle

Jannat-ul- Firdous is on the highest.

Those who love each other for the sake of Allah will get a pillar of Yaqoot, on which there will be seventy thousand (70,000) rooms. These will shine for the residents of Jannah as the sun shines for the residents of Duniya.

There will be rooms in Jannah in such a way that every room will have seventy thousand (70,000) dinning sheets. On every dinning sheet 70,000 types of foods will be served. For their service 80,000 young boys will be moving around looking like beautiful scattered pearls.

One bunch of dates will be equal to the length of 12 arms.
The size of a date will be equal to the big pitcher.

These will be whiter than milk, sweeter than honey and softer than butter and free Of seeds. The stem of these plants will be made up of gold and silver. There will also be gardens of grapes. The bunches of grapes will be very big. The size of a single grape will be equal to a big pitcher.

Someone asked,O’ Messanger of Allah (swt), Prophet Muhammad PBUH: ya Rasulullah (Sallalahu alaihi wasallam):

will it be sufficient for me and my family. It was answered, it will be sufficient for you and your whole tribe.

The Dresses of Jannah:

The dress of Jannah will be very beautiful.

One will wear 70 dresses at a time.

These will be very fine, delicate, weightless, having different colors. These dresses will be so fine that the body even the heart will be visible.
And the waves of love in the hearts will also be visible. These dresses will never become old, never be dirty and will never tear.


There will be four canals in every Jannah:
1. Water
2. Milk
3. Honey
4. Sharabun Tahoora.

There will also be three fountains in Jannah:

1. Kafoor
2. Zanjabeel
3. Tasneem

Qualities of People of Jannah:

In Jannah, height of every Mo ‘min (Muslim), will be equal to the height of:
Hazrat Adam (Alaihissalaam) 60 arms (90 feet).
Beauty will be like that of Hazrat Yousuf (Alaihissalaam)
Age of youth will be like that of Hazrat Esa (Alaihissalaam) 30-33 years).
Sweetness of voice will be like that of Hazrat Dawud (Alaihissalaam).
Tolerance will be like that of Hazrat Yaqoob (Alaihissalaam)
Patience will be like that of Hazrat Ayyub (Alaihissalaam.)
Habits will be like that of Sayyaduna Muhammad (Sallalahu alaihi wasallam)

The Prophet Mohammad PBUH said:
Paradise has one hundred levels which Allâh has reserved for the mujâhidîn who fight in His Cause and the distance between each of the two grades is like the distance between the heavens and the earth. So when you ask Allâh for something, ask for al-Firdaws which is the best and highest part of Paradise. Above it is the throne of the Most Merciful, and from it originate the rivers of Paradise”.

Narrated by al-Bukhâri from Abû Hurayrah (R.A)

Values of Pious True Muslims, who are close to Allah (swt)

Allah’s Messenger, Prophet Mohammad PBUH said: Allah the Exalted has said:
I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshiper of Mine.
And the most beloved thing with which My slave on comes nearer to Me is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (prayer or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him.
When I love him I become his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks (something) from Me, I give him, and if he asks My Protection (refuge), I protect him.
[Sahih Al-Bukhari: 6021]

1) Those who make innovations in religion and associate partners with Allah (such as Hululi – who believe in the indwelling light in the soul of man, Wujudi – who believe in the physical form of Allah, and pagans who worship other than Allah) interpret this Hadith in support of their beliefs and thus seek support of one wrong from another although the meaning and interpretation of the Hadith is not at all what they describe.
The Hadith means that when a person adds voluntary prayers to the obligatory ones, he becomes a favorite slave of Allah and on account of it, he receives special help from Allah.
Then he is protected by Allah to the extent that He supervises every organ of his body. Thus, he is saved from disobedience of Allah. He bears what is liked by Allah, sees what is liked by Him, handles what pleases Him. When he attains that lofty position of love and obedience of Allah, then Allah in return also grants prayers of His obedient and loyal slaves.

2) A saint is not one who has a peculiar attire and appearance, or who occupies the seat of a righteous as his successor, or a person who is lost in meditation, or a half-mad, or one who has invented his own style of remembrance and worship of Allah, but it is one who strictly fulfills the obligations imposed by Islam, is fond of voluntary prayers and adheres to Divine injunctions in every walk of life.

3) The love of such righteous is a means to attain the Pleasure of Allah, and enmity (hatred and repulsion) with them is a cause of His serious displeasure and wrath.

4) Voluntary prayer is certainly a means of attaining the Pleasure of Allah, but it must be preceded by the fulfillment of obligatory prayers, The former is of no value if the latter is neglected. The desire to attain nearness of Allah without strict observance of the obligatory prayers is fallacious and meaningless.

May he seek Allah’s guidance always

May he always refer to Qur’an

and the Sunnah as his moral guide

May he thank and appreciate Allah

For the woman at his side

May he be conscious of his anger

And often fast and pray

Be charitable and sensitive 

In every possible way

May he honor and protect me

And guide me in this life

And please Allah! Make me worthy

to be his loving wife

And finally, O Allah!

Make him abundant in love and laughter

In taqwa and sincerity

In striving for the hereafter!

May Allah grant all the Muslim sisters with such husbands… Ameen ya rabbel alameen

22 Dua’s From The Holy Quran

“And when My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I respond to the dua (prayer) of every suppliant when they calleth on Me “ [The Holly Quran 2:186 ]

1. Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the life to come and keep us safe from the torment of the Fire. (The Holly Quran 2:201)

2. Our Lord! Bestow on us endurance and make our foothold sure and give us help against those who reject faith. (The Holly Quran 2:250)

3. Our Lord! Take us not to task if we forget or fall into error. (The Holly Quran 2:286)

4. Our Lord! Lay not upon us such a burden as You did lay upon those before us. (The Holly Quran 2:286)

5. Our Lord! Impose not on us that which we have not the strength to bear, grant us forgiveness and have mercy on us. You are our Protector. Help us against those who deny the truth. (The Holly Quran 2:286)

6. Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate from the truth after selves, and unless You grant us forgiveness and bestow Your mercy upon us, we shall most certainly be lost! (The Holly Quran 7:23)

13. Our Lord! Place us not among the people who have been guilty of evildoing. (The Holly Quran 7:47)

14. Our Lord! Lay open the truth between us and our people, for You are the best of all to lay open the truth. (The Holly Quran 7:89)

15. Our Lord! Pour out on us patience and constancy, and make us die as those who have surrendered themselves unto You. (The Holly Quran 7:126)

16. Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the evildoing folk, and save as by Your mercy from people who deny the truth (The Holly Quran 10:85-86)


17. Our Lord! You truly know all that we may hide [in our hearts] as well as all that we bring into the open, for nothing whatever, be it on earth or in heaven, remains hidden from Allah (The Holly Quran, 14:38)

18. Our Lord! Bestow on us mercy from Your presence and dispose of our affairs for us in the right way.The Holly Quran, (18:10) & (59:10)

19. Our Lord! In You we have placed our trust, and to You do we turn in repentance, for unto You is the end of all journeys. (The Holly Quran, 60:4)

20. Our Lord! Perfect our light for us and forgive us our sins, for verily You have power over all things. (The Holly Quran, 66:8)

21. Surah Al-An’am 6.162: Say (O Muhammad SAW): “Verily, my Salât (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamîn (mankind, jinns and all that exists). Our Lord! Perfect our light for us and forgive us our sins, for verily
You have power over all things. (The Holly Quran, 66:8)

22. Say (O Muhammad SAW): “Verily, my Salât (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamîn (mankind, jinns and all that exists). Surah Al-An’am 6.162

Renew Your Faith

Faith is the most precious of possessions. It is the greatest gift. Allah has made it the distinction of those who are destined for Paradise.

Allah says: “Are those who believe like those who are iniquitous? They are not the same.” [The Noble Quran, Sûrrah al-Sajdah: 18]

We must value the gift of faith. Allah withheld the gift of faith from some of the closest relatives of His Messengers, like Abraham’s father and one of Noah’s sons. They were so close to those noble Prophets, but they were not blessed to have faith. Be thankful that Allah has bestowed this blessing on you. We must praise Him for giving us this gift. We would not have been guided had it not been for Allah guiding us.

We should take care of this most valuable gift. We must safeguard it. We must not let it deteriorate or fall into peril. How do we do this?

It is well-known that faith increases and decreases. Faith increases most effectively through the performance of good deeds.

Abû Hurayrah relates the following:
Once when the Prophet (peace be upon him) was sitting with his Companions, he asked: “Who among you started his day fasting?”

Abû Bakr said: “I am fasting.”

Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: “Who among you has visited the sick?”

Abû Bakr said: “I have.”

Then the Prophet asked: “Who among you gave food to the poor?”

Abû Bakr who answered: “I have.”

The Prophet then asked: “Who attended a funeral procession today?”

Abû Bakr again replied in the affirmative.

At this point, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “These deeds do not come together in a single person except that the person is admitted into Paradise.” [Sahîh Muslim]
Consider how Abû Bakr engaged in all of these good deeds in a single day. We should not be surprised to know that, on another occasion, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said about Abû Bakr: “Abû Bakr’s faith weighs as much as the faith of the rest of my followers put together.”

In order to renew your faith and increase it, read the Qur’ân. Put your mind into it, and think carefully about what you are reading. There is no better way to remember Allah or beseech His favor than by using His own words.

Also, read the stories of the Prophets to learn about the exemplary lives of those who possessed the greatest faith of all. We can see how Abraham (peace be upon him) was willing to sacrifice his own son for the love of Allah, how he was willing to let Nimrod cast him into a bonfire, and how he gave hospitality to his guests, His heart was sincere in everything that he did and he always turned penitently to his Lord. Because of this, he earned the epithet “Friend of Allah.”

“And Allah took Abraham as a friend.” [The Noble Quran, Sûrah al-Nisâ’: 125]

When we read about the lives of the Prophets and contemplate on the lessons that their lives teach us, it increases our faith and bolsters our conviction. Consider when Allah says: They are the ones whom Allah guided, so follow their guidance.” [The Noble Quran, Sûrah al-An`âm: 90]

To further increase your faith, visit the graveyard. See how everyone’ s state in the physical world is made equal by death. Then consider how the status of their souls differs. How many believing souls are saying in expectation: “My Lord! Bring on the Day of Resurrection!” How many other souls are pleading in fear and dread: “My Lord! Do not bring on the Day of Judgment.”

May Allah increase us in faith and make us all God-fearing.

“ALLAH! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter . And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great” .

(The Noble Quran 2:255)

He is the First (nothing is before Him) and the Last (nothing is after Him), the Most High (nothing is above Him) and the Most Near (nothing is nearer than Him). And He is the All-Knower of everything.

(The Noble Qur’an Surah 57. Ayat 3)


Virtues of the Day of Arafaah

▬▬▬▬▬▬ Virtues of the Day of Arafaah  ▬▬▬▬▬▬

1. It is the day on which the religion was perfected and Allaah’s Favour was 
completed. : In Al-Saheehayn it was reported from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him) that a Jewish man said to him, “O Ameer al-Mu’mineen, there is an aayah in your Book which you recite; if it had come to us Jews, we would have taken that day as an ‘Eid (festival).” ‘Umar said, “Which aayah?” He said: “This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” [al-Maa’idah 5:3 – interpretation of the meaning]. ‘Umar said, “We know on which day and in which place that was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). It was when he was standing in ‘Arafaah on a Friday.” 

2. It is a day of Eid for the people who are in that place. 
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Yawm ‘Arafaah (the day of ‘Arafaah), Yawm al-Nahr (the Day of Sacrifice) and Ayyaam al-Tashreeq (the 3 days following Yawm al-Nahr) are Eid (festival) for us, the people of Islam. These are days of eating and drinking.” This was narrated by the authors of al-Sunan. It was reported that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab said: “It – i.e., the aayah ‘This day I have perfected…’ was revealed on a Friday, the Day of ‘Arafaah, both of which – praise be to Allaah – are Eids for us.”

3. It is a day by which Allaah swore an oath
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The Almighty cannot swear by anything except that which is mighty. Yawm ‘Arafaah is the “witnessed day” mentioned in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

“By the witnessing day [Friday] and by the witnessed day [the Day of ‘Arafaah].” [al-Burooj 85:3].

It was reported from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The promised day is the Day of Resurrection, the witnessed day is the Day of ‘Arafaah, and the witnessing day is Friday.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.

It is the “odd” [i.e., odd-numbered, Witr] by which Allaah swore in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

“And by the even and the odd” [al-Fajr 89:3]. Ibn ‘Abbaas said: “The even is the Day of al-Adhaa [i.e., 10th Dhoo’l-Hijjah] and the odd is the Day of ‘Arafaah [i.e., 9th Dhoo’l-Hijjah] This is also the view of ‘Ikrimah and al-Dahhaak.

4. Fasting on this day is an expiation for two years. 
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
It was reported from Abu Qutaadah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked about fasting on the Day of ‘Arafaah. He said, “It expiates for the sins of the previous year and of the coming year.” Narrated by Muslim.

This (fasting) is mustahabb for those who are not on Hajj. In the case of the one who is on Hajj, it is not Sunnah for him to fast on the Day of ‘Arafaah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not fast on this day in ‘Arafaah. It was narrated that he forbade fasting on the Day of ‘Arafaah in ‘Arafaah.

5. It is the day on which Allaah took the covenant from the progeny of Adam. 
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
It was reported that Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah took the covenant from the loins of Adam in Na’maan, i.e., ‘Arafaah. He brought forth from his loins all his offspring and spread them before Him, then He addressed them, and said: ‘Am I not your Lord? They said, ‘Yes, we testify,’ let you should say on the Day of Resurrection: ‘Verily, we have been unaware of this.’ Or lest you should say: ‘It was only our fathers aforetime who took others as partners in worship along with Allaah, and we were (merely their) descendents after them; will You then destroy us because of the deeds of men who practised Al-Baatil (i.e., ploytheism and committing crimes and sins, invoking and worshipping others besides Allaah)?’ [al-A’raaf 7:172-173 – interpretation of the meaning].” Narrated by Ahmad and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani. And there is no greater day than this and no greater covenant than this.

6. It is the day of forgiveness of sins, freedom from the Fire and pride in the people who are there:
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
In Saheeh Muslim it was narrated from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no day on which Allaah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of ‘Arafaah. He comes close and expresses His pride to the angels, saying, ‘What do these people want?’”

It was reported from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah expresses His pride to His angels at the time of ‘Ishaa’ on the Day of ‘Arafaah, about the people of ‘Arafaah. He says, ‘Look at My slaves who have come unkempt and dusty.’” Narrated by Ahmad and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.

Eid ul-Adha

Eid-ul-Adha or ‘the feast of the sacrifice’, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s unselfish act of sacrificing his son Ishmael to God. This important holiday is celebrated at the end of Hajj, which is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca. The ‘Festival of Sacrifice’ is followed by a ‘Feast of Sacrifice’, which pays homage to the prophet Abraham’s unselfish act of sacrificing his son, Ishmael, to God. In turn, God spared the boy’s life and instead substituted a sheep. Now in remembrance, people sacrifice a lamb, goat, or other animal, and give the meat to family, friends, relatives, and most importantly, the poor. This holiday is now celebrated in American cities with prayer, community gatherings, and the tradition of dressing up in special clothes to visit friends and relatives.

Eid ul-Adha occurs on the tenth day of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijja. It is one of two Eid festivals that Muslims celebrate. Eid ul-Adha is celebrated by Muslims worldwide as a commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son (Ishmael) for God (Allah). This very important Muslim holiday is celebrated at the end of Hajj, which is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

Others celebrate Eid-ul Adha as it marks the end of the Pilgrimage or Hajj for the millions of Muslims who make the trip to Mecca each year. Like Eid ul-Fitr, Eid ul-Adha also begins with a short prayer followed by a khutba. In Mecca, the Khutba is delivered from Mount Arafat.

People hold Eid parties and give presents to their children. This is just one more example of the diverse and rich culture that makes up our great nation.

TAKBIR-E-EID :

The Takbir should be recited after the maghrib salaat (Prayer) of Yaoum-e-Araafaht (The Day of Arafah)…

■ [ Takbeer on (Eid al-) Adhaa ]
Unrestricted Takbeer or Takbeer restricted to certain times during the days of Dhu’l-Hijjah

Question- About unrestricted Takbeer during Eid al-Adha – is the Takbeer following every prayer included in the unrestricted Takbeer?

Is it Sunnah, mustahabb or bid’ah?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah. 

With regard to Takbeer on (Eid al-) Adhaa, it is prescribed from the beginning of the month until the end of the thirteenth day of Dhu’l-Hijjah, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“That they may witness things that are of benefit to them (i.e. reward of Hajj in the Hereafter, and also some worldly gain from trade), and mention the Name of Allaah on appointed days”

[al-Hajj 22:28]

– which are the ten days; and because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And remember Allaah during the appointed Days [These are the three days of staying at Mina during the Hajj; 11th, 12th and 13th days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah]” [al-Baqarah 2:203]

– which are the days of Tashreeq. 

And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The days of Tashreeq are the days of eating, drinking and remembering Allaah.” 

(Narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh). Al-Bukhaari mentioned in his Saheeh, in a mu’allaq report, that 

Ibn ‘Umar and Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with them both) used to go out to the market-place on first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah, reciting Takbeer, and the people used to recite Takbeer because of their Takbeer. ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab and his son ‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with them both) used to recite Takbeer during the days of Mina in the mosque and in the camps, and they would raise their voices until Mina echoed with their Takbeer. 

It was narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and a group of the Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them) used to recite Takbeer following each of the five prayers from Fajr on the day of ‘Arafaah until ‘Asr on the thirteenth day of Dhu’l-Hijjah. This applies to those who are not on Hajj; for those who are on Hajj, they should concentrate on their ihraam and recite the Talbiyah, until they throw the stones at Jamarat al-‘Aqabah on the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr); after that they may recite Takbeer. 

The Takbeer should start with the first stone thrown at the Jamarah mentioned. If the pilgrim recites the Takbeer along with the Talbiyah, that is OK, because Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

“Some would recite the Talbiyah on the Day of ‘Arafaah, and they were not told off for doing so, and some would recite Takbeer and they were not told off for doing so.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari). 

But it is better for the one who is in ihraam to recite the Talbiyah and for the one who is not in ihraam to recite Takbeer on the days mentioned. 

Hence we know that unrestricted takbeer and takbeer restricted to certain times are combined on five days, i.e., the Day of ‘Arafaah, the Day of Sacrifice and the three days of Tashreeq.

With regard to the eighth day (of Dhu’l-Hijjah) and the days preceding it, Takbeer on those days may be done at any times, not only at certain times, because of the aayahs and reports mentioned above.

In al-Musnad it is narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are no days on which good deeds are greater or more beloved to Allaah than on these ten days, so recite much Tahleel (saying Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah), Takbeer (saying Allaahu akbar) and Tahmeed (saying al-hamdu Lillaah),” or similar words.

Last Sermon of the Messenger of Allaah (Peace be upon him)


This Sermon was delivered on the Ninth Day of Dhul Hijjah 10 A.H in the Uranah Valley of mount Arafat

“O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I don’t know whether, after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. Allaah has forbidden you to take usury (Interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived…

Beware of Satan, for your safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have right over you. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to commit adultery.

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship Allaah, say your five daily prayers (Salaah), fast during the month of Ramadaan, and give your wealth in Zakaat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to. You know that every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. You are all equal. Nobody has superiority over other except by piety and good action.

Remember, one day you will appear before Allaah and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not astray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand my words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Qur’an and my example, the Sunnah and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness oh Allaah that I have conveyed your message to your people.”

Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah(9th Zilhijjah) is a confirmed Sunnah for those who are not performing Hajj. It was narrated from Abu Qataadah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked about fasting on the day of ‘Arafah and he said: 
“It expiates for the past and coming years.” Narrated by Muslim (1162). According to another report: “I ask Allaah that it may expiate for (the sins of) the year that comes before it and the year that comes after it.”

Abû Hafsah, may Allâh be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet, upon whom be peace, said: “Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah absolves the sins for two years: the previous year and the coming year, and fasting on ‘ashûra, (the tenth day of Muharram) atones for the sins of previous years.”

Reminder:
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When you see the new moon of Dhu’l-Hijj ah – according to another version, When the ten days (of Dhu’l-Hijj ah) begin – and any one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, let him refrain (from cutting) his hair and nails.”

“Each person’s every joint must do a charity every day the Sun comes up:

to act justly between two people is a charity;

to help a man with his mount, lifting him onto it or hoisting up his belongings onto it is a charity;

a good word is a charity;

every step you take to perform prayers is a charity

and removing a harmful thing from the road is a charity.”

Shaykh Ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
With regard to the family of the one who is going to offer the sacrifice, they are not subject to any obligation s, and it is not forbidden for them to remove anything fromtheir hair or nails, according to the sounder of the two scholarly views. Rather the ruling applies only to the one who is going to offer the sacrifice, the one who has bought the sacrificia l animal from his own wealth.

Importance of the Month of ZulHajjah

1: Hajj is performed in this month.

2: The first ten days of ZulHajjah are extremely sacred and good deeds are most beloved to Allah in these ten days.

The Prophet said, “No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (first ten days of Dhal Hajja).” Then some companions of the Prophet said, “Not even Jihad?” He replied, “Not even Jihad”, except that of a man who does it by putting himself and his property in danger (for Allah’s sake) and does not return with any of those things.”(Bukhari 15: 86)

3: 9th ZulHajja is a very sacred day. When asked about the fast of 9th ZulHajjah (Yaum e Arafah) Rasool Allah saw said: “It expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year” (Muslim 6: 2603)

4: The second Muslim festival Eid ul Adha falls on the 10th of ZulHajjah.

5: An animal sacrifice in memory of the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (as) is offered on 10th ZulHajjah.

Conditions for Udhiyah (Sacrifies):

It should be one of the an’aam class of animals, which are: camels, cattle, sheep and goats, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And for every nation We have appointed religious ceremonies, that they may mention the Name of Allaah over the beast of cattle that He has given them for food”

[ The Noble Quran, Surrah Al-Hajj 22:34]

Baheemat al-an’aam (translated here as “beast of cattle”) includes camels, cattle and sheep. This is what is well known among theArabs, and this was the view of al-Hasan, Qataadah and others.

It should have reached the age stipulated in sharee’ah, which is six months for a sheep and the age at which the animal is considered to be an adult for any other animal, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Do not sacrifice anything but an adult animal, unless it is difficult for you, in which case youmay slaughter a six-month old lamb (jadh’ah).” Narrated by Muslim.

A mature animal means one that is considered to be an adult.

In the case of camels it means one that is fiveyears old.

For cattle, it means one that is two years old.

For sheep it means one that is a year old.

The jadh’ah is that which is half a year old. Soit is not correct to sacrifice a camel, cow or goat that has not yet reached maturity, or a sheep that is less than six months old.

It should be free of any faults that would render it unsuitable for sacrifice, of which there are four:

i – An obvious defect in one eye, such as when the eye is sunken in its socket, or when it sticks out like a button, or is white and obviously defective.

ii – Obvious sickness, whose symptoms are clearly apparent in the animal, such as fever that prevents it from grazing and causes lossof appetite; mange that obviously affects its flesh or its health; deep wounds that affect its health, and so on.

iii – Obvious lameness, which prevents the animal from walking normally.

iv – Emaciation that leaves no marrow in the bones, when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked about what should be avoided in udhiyah, hegestured with his hand and said: “Four: alame animal which is obviously lame, a one-eyed animal whose defect is obvious, a sick animal whose sickness is obvious, and an emaciated animal that no one would choose.” Narrated by Maalik in al-Muwatta’ from the hadeeth of al-Bara’ ibn ‘Aazib. According to a hadeeth narrated from him inal-Sunan, he said: “The Messenger of Allaah(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stood up among us and said: ‘There are fourwhich are not permissible for sacrifice,’” andhe mentioned something similar. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 1148.

These four faults render an animal unsuitable for sacrifice, and they include similar faults or more severe faults. So the following animals are also unsuitable for sacrifice:

a- One that is blind in both eyes.

b- One that has eaten more than it can stand,until the danger has passed.

c- One that has encountered difficulty in giving birth, until all danger has passed.

d- One that has suffered something that could kill it, such as strangulation or a fall from a high place, until the danger has passed.

e- One that is unable to walk because of a defect.

f- One that has had one of its forelegs or hind legs cut off.

If these are added to the four defects mentioned in the text, the number of those that cannot be offered as sacrifices reaches ten – these six and the four mentioned above.

The animal should belong to the person whois offering the sacrifice, or he should have permission for that either on the grounds of sharee’ah or from the owner. The sacrifice isnot valid if the animal slaughtered does not belong to the person who is sacrificing it, such as one that has been taken by force, stolen, or taken on the basis of a false claim, etc, because it is not permissible to draw closer to Allaah by means of sin. A sacrifice offered by the guardian of an orphan from the orphan’s property is valid if that is customary and if hefeels sad about not offering a sacrifice.

A sacrifice offered by a guardian from the property of the person under his care is valid, if done with permission.

No one else should have any rights to the sacrificial animal; the sacrifice of an animal that is held in pledge is not valid.

It should be slaughtered at the time specifiedin sharee’ah, which is from after the Eid prayer on the Day of Sacrifice until sunset on the last of the days of al-Tashreeq, which is the 13th of Dhu’l-Hijjah. So the days when the sacrificed may be offered are four:the day of Eid after the prayer, and the three days after that. Whoever slaughters it before the Eid prayer is over, or after sun sets on the 13th of Dhu’l-Hijjah, his sacrifice is not valid, because of the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari from al-Bara’ ibn ‘Aazib (may Allaah be pleased with him), according to which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever slaughters (his sacrifice) before the prayer, itis meat that he has brought to his family, butthat is not the sacrifice.” And he narrated that Jundub ibn Sufyaan al-Bajali (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) saying, ‘Whoever slaughters the sacrifice before he prays, let him replace it with another.’” And it was narrated that Nubayshah al-Hadhali (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘The days of al-Tashreeq are the days of eating, drinking and remembering Allaah.’” Narrated by Muslim.

But if he has an excuse for delaying it beyond the days of Tashreeq, such as if the animal ran away, without there being any negligence on his part, and he could not findit until after the time was over, or he appointed someone else to slaughter it and that person forgot until the time was over, then there is nothing wrong with slaughtering it after the appointed time. Thisis by analogy with the one who sleeps and misses a prayer, or forgets it – he shouldpray it as soon as he wakes up or rememberit.

It is permissible to slaughter the udhiyah at any time, night or day, but it is better to slaughter it during the day, and it is better toslaughter on the day of Eid after the two khutbahs. Each day is better than the day that follows it, because that means that one is hastening to do good.

The Ten Days of Dhul Hijjah

Assalam Alaikum warahmatullahe wa barakatuh,

Bismillaher Rahmaner Rahim

There are tons of reasons why you wouldn’t want to pass up this opportunity. Do you know which one? The first ten days of Dhu’l-Ḥijjah.

It’s that time of the year again, the last month of the lunar calendar for the year 1431 after the Hijrah of the Prophet Muḥammad, ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam. This is the time when more than two million people from all around the globe will be meeting together for at least five days in the plains of Makkah, Mina, ‘Arafah and Muzdalifah to perform their sacred journey to Makkah, known to us as al-Hajj, the pilgrimage. What bonds them together? One thing: al-Islam.

If you are already reading this, most likely you are not going to Hajj. And if you’re there already, then what on earth are you doing wasting your time online? Go to the Haram and enjoy your ṭawāf.

There are two chances in life: the one which you have already missed and the one which you don’t want to miss. What you already have is no longer a chance, its reality.

Therefore, for those of us who were unable to be there in Makkah, why should we value these special days of the year? Here are my top five reasons.

Allah subahanahu wa ta’ala valued these days so much that he swore by them in the Qur’an. And If Allah swore by something, then it is definitely profound and of the greatest value. Allah says:

والفجر وليال عشر
“by the dawn, and by ten nights” AlFajr 89:1-2

Ibn Kathīr rahimahullah, in his tafsir, referred to these ten days as the ten days of Dhu’l-Ḥijjah. He also attributed this opinion to Ibn ʿAbbās, Ibn Az-Zubayr and others of the righteous predecessors.

The good deeds performed during these ten days are most rewarded, more than any other time of the year.
Ibn Abbas narrated the Messenger salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam said:

(مَا مِنْ أيَّامٍ العَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ فِيهِنَّ أحَبُّ إلى الله مِنْ هَذهِ الأيَّامِ العَشْرِ) ، فقالُوا يا رسولُ الله: ولا الجِهَادُ في سَبِيلِ الله؟ فقالَ رسولُ الله : ( ولا الجِهَادُ في سَبِيلِ الله، إلاّ رَجُلٌ خَرجَ بِنَفْسِهِ ومَالِهِ، فَلَمْ يَرْجِعْ من ذَلِكَ بِشَيْءٍ).

“There are no days during which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days. The companions asked: not even jihad in the cause of Allah? The Messenger of Allah replied: Not even jihad in the cause of Allah except for the one who went to fight taking himself and his wealth but did not return with either of them.” (Bukhari and Tirmidhi.)

The Blessings of the Days of ‘Arafah

These ten days host one special day in which there are so many blessings. It is the day of ‘Arafah, the ninth day of Dhu’l-Ḥijjah and the day preceding the ‘Id day. Some of the blessings of ‘Arafah are:

  • Fasting that day expiates the sins of two years, the previous one and the coming year. (Muslim)
  • It is a day in which Allah completed the revelation of the religion, perfected this bounty bestowed upon us and was satisfied with Islam as our religion. This was mentioned in Sūrat’l-Mā’idah 5:3. (Bukhari and Muslim)
  • It is the day when Allah AlMighty descends, in a manner that suits His Majesty, to the closest heaven and shows his pride to the angels about the presence of the pilgrims. (Muslim)
  • In this day Allah promises the pilgrims to bestow his mercy on them and forgive their sins so that when they return home they return free of sins just like the day when their mothers gave birth to them. (Bukhari and Muslim)
  • It is a day when many people will be emancipated from the fire of Hell.

The season of the ten days of Dhu’l-Ḥijjah is a festivity of worship. No other days of the year hold so many diverse acts of worship as done in such a short time, not even in Ramadan. And here is a list of some of what good deeds are done during these days in Makkah and elsewhere around the globe:

  • Hajj and multiple Umrahs by millions of people.
  • The sacrifice of the dunya and this world for the sake of attending the Hajj.
  • The display of humility, humbleness and devotion in the actual rituals of Hajj.
  • Tawaaf around the Ka’bah and Sai’ between the two hills of Safa and Marwa.
  • Abundance of Dhikr, the praise of Allah especially takbeer and tahleel and what other pilgrims say the most, Talbiyah.
  • Fasting for the non-pilgrims.
  • Being extra charitable.
  • Offering the hadi’y and udhiyah or qur’ban the sacrifice of livestock and feeding the poor.
  • The inclination towards repentance.
  • The engagement in long du’a or supplications as a sign of humility and humbleness.
  • Maintaining the prayers in the sacred sites al-Haram in Makkah and the Masjid of the Prophet in Madinah.
  • The recitation of the Qur’an.

The ten days of Dhu’l-Ḥijjah also host the greatest day of the year, Yum-an-Nahr the day of the sacrifice, the 10th which is the actual day of ‘Id. The Messenger of Allah said:

(إنَّ أَعْظَمَ اْلأيَّامِ عِنْدَ الله تبارك وتعالى يَوْمُ النَّحْرِ ثُمَّ يَوْمُ الْقَرِّ)

“The best day with Allah is yum-an-Nahr, the day of sacrifice and then yum-al-qarr (the day that follows, when the pilgrims reside in the camps of Mina for worship).” (Ahmad, Abu Dawood and an-Nasa’iee).

So, now that you know the significance of this season, what do you need to do?

Some suggestions to make the Best of the Ten Days:

  • Increase your level of worship during the day and during the night.
  • Try to achieve one khatma of the Qur’an (reading it from cover to cover).
  • Keep your tongue moist with dhikr and praise of Allah wherever you are.
  • Maintain a state of ṭahārah and wuḍū’ at all times.
  • Make most of your dhikr Takbīr (like the one you recite on ‘Id day).
  • Fast a few days while the days are short and cold, particularly the 9th, the day of ‘Arafah.
  • If you haven’t paid for the qurban (sacrificial animal) yet, make sure to do so. Perhaps you should donate one to those who are most in need of it in areas such as Pakistan and Gaza.
  • Wake up before Fajr time and pray Qiyam-ul-Layl.
  • Pray your Fardh salat on time.
  • Make sure you don’t miss any of the Nafl and Sunnah prayers.
  • Give charity and help those who are less fortunate prepare for the Eid day.
  • Share the spirit of the season and be cheerful with all people.

There is so much you can do for the ten days of Dhu’l-Ḥijjah, but you are the one who knows your schedule better than any one else. Make sure to make this season a priority and may Allah grant you all Jannatul Firdous.

Remember, there are two chances in life: the one you already missed, and the one you don’t want to miss. So don’t miss out on the ten days of Dhu’l-Ḥijjah.

10 DAYS OF VIRTUE & RIGHTEOUSNESS (Dhull-Hijjah)

Assalam Alaikum warahmatullahe wa barakatuh,

Bismillaher Rahmaner Rahim

Praise be to Allaah Who has created Time and has made some times better than others, some months and days and nights better than others, when rewards are multiplied many times, as a mercy towards His slaves. This encourages them to do more righteous deeds and makes them more eager to worship Him, so that the Muslim renews his efforts to gain a greater share of reward, prepare himself for death and supply himself in readiness for the Day of Judgement.

This season of worship brings many benefits, such as the opportunity to correct one’s faults and make up for any shortcomings or anything that one might have missed.

Among the special seasons of worship are the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah, which Allaah has preferred over all the other days of the year. Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allaah than these ten days.” The people asked, “Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah?” He said, “Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing.”

(al-Bukhaari, 2/457).

You should know, my brother/sister in Islaam,

that the virtue of these ten days is based on many things:

-Allaah swears an oath by them, and swearing an oath by something is indicative of its importance and great benefit. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “By the dawn; by the ten nights” [al-Fajr 89:1-2]. Ibn ‘Abbaas, Ibn al-Zubayr, Mujaahid and others of the earlier and later generations said that this refers to the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah. Ibn Katheer said: “This is the correct opinion.” (Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 8/413)

-These ten days include Yawm ‘Arafaah (the Day of ‘Arafaah), on which Allaah perfected His Religion. Fasting on this day will expiate for the sins of two years.

These days also include Yawm al-Nahar (the Day of Sacrifice), the greatest day of the entire year and the greatest day of Hajj, which combines acts of worship in a way unlike any other day.

-These ten days include the days of sacrifice and of Hajj.

TYPES OF WORSHIP

Concerning the types of worship to be performed during these ten days: one must understand that these days are a great blessing from Allaah to His slave, which is appreciated properly by the actively righteous. It is the Muslim’s duty to appreciate this blessing and make the most of the opportunity, by devoting these ten days to paying more attention to striving hard in worship. Among His blessings to His slaves, Allaah has given us many ways in which to do good and worship Him, so that the Muslim may be constantly active and consistent in his worship of his Lord.

Among the good deeds which the Muslim should strive to do during the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah are:

FASTING

Hunaydah ibn Khaalid narrated upon the authority of his wife who said, “Some of the wives of the Prophet (salallaahu ‘alaihiwasallam) told me that the Prophet (salallaahu ‘alaihiwasallam) used to fast the Day of ‘Aashoorah, the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah, and three days out of every month13th, 14th, and 15th).” (Imam Ahmad, An-Nasaaee)

Commentary: Imam An-Nawwawee (rahimahullaah) said with reference to fasting the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah,

quote: “It is extremely preferable to do so.”

It is Sunnah to fast on the ninth day of Dhu’l-Hijjah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) urged us to do good deeds during this time, and fasting is one of the best of deeds. Allaah has chosen fasting for Himself, as is stated in the hadeeth qudsi:

“Allaah says: ‘All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except for fasting, which is for Me and I am the One Who will reward him for it.’”

( al-Bukhaari, 1805)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the ninth of Dhu’l-Hijjah. Hunaydah ibn Khaalid reported from his wife that some of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the ninth of Dhu’l-Hijjah, on the day of ‘Aashooraa’, on three days of each month, and on the first two Mondays and Thursdays of each month.”

(Reported by al-Nisaa’i, 4/205 and by Abu Dawud; classified by al-Albaani as saheeh in Saheeh Abi Dawud, 2/462).

TAKBEER

It is Sunnah to say Takbeer (“Allaahu akbar”), Tahmeed (“Al-hamdu Lillaah”), Tahleel (“La ilaha ill-Allaah”) and Tasbeeh (“Subhaan Allaah”) during the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah, and to say it loudly in the mosque, the home, the street and every place where it is permitted to remember Allaah and mention His name out loud, as an act of worship and as a proclamation of the greatness of Allaah, may He be exalted.

Men should recite these phrases out loud, and women should recite them quietly.

The Takbeer may include the words:

Takbeer at this time is an aspect of the Sunnah that has been forgotten, especially during the early part of this period, so much so that one hardly ever hears Takbeer, except from a few people. This Takbeer should be pronounced loudly, in order to revive the Sunnah and as a reminder to the negligent.

There is sound evidence that Ibn ‘Umar and Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with them) used to go out in the marketplace during the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah, reciting Takbeer, and the people would recite Takbeer when they heard them.

REVIVING ASPECTS OF THE SUNNAH

that have been virtually forgotten is a deed that will bring an immense reward, as is indicated by the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Whoever revives an aspect of my Sunnah that is forgotten after my death, he will have a reward equivalent to that of the people who follow him, without it detracting in the least from their reward.”

(Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 7/443; this is a hasan hadeeth because of corroborating asaaneed).

HAJJ & UMRAH

One of the best deeds that one can do during these ten days is to perform Hajj to the Sacred House of Allaah. The one whom Allaah helps to go on Hajj to His House and to perform all the rituals properly is included in the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “An accepted Hajj brings no less a reward than Paradise.”

Doing more good deeds in general, because good deeds are beloved by Allaah and will bring a great reward from Him. Whoever is not able to go to Hajj should occupy himself at this blessed time by worshipping Allaah, praying (salaat), reading Qur’an, remembering Allaah, making supplication (du’aa’), giving charity, honouring his parents, upholding the ties of kinship, enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil, and other good deeds and acts of worship.

SACRIFICE

One of the good deeds that will bring a person closer to Allaah

during these ten days is offering a sacrifice, by choosing a high-quality animal and fattening it, spending money for the sake of Allaah.

SINCERE REPENTANCE

One of the most important things to do during these ten days is to repent sincerely to Allaah and to give up all kinds of disobedience and sin. Repentance means coming back to Allaah and foregoing all the deeds, open and secret, that He dislikes, out of regret for what has passed, giving it up immediately and being determined never to return to it, but to adhere firmly to the Truth by doing what Allaah loves.

If a Muslim commits a sin, he must hasten to repent at once, without delay, firstly because he does not know when he will die, and secondly because one evil deed leads to another.

Repentance at special times is very important because in most cases people’s thoughts turn towards worship at these times, and they are keen to do good, which leads to them recognizing their sins and feeling regret for the past.

Repentance is obligatory at all times, but when the Muslim combines sincere repentance with good deeds during the days of most virtue, this is a sign of success, in sha Allaah. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“But as for him who repented, believed and did righteous deeds, then he will be among those who are successful.”

[The Noble Quran, Surrah, Al-Qasas 28:67]


Some MORE QUICK suggestions to make the Best of the Ten Days [by Shaikh Yaser Birjas]:

  • Increase your level of worship during the day and during the night.
  • Try to achieve one khatma of the Qur’an (reading it from cover to cover).
  • Keep your tongue moist with dhikr and praise of Allah wherever you are.
  • Maintain a state of ṭahārah and wuḍū’ at all times.
  • Make most of your dhikr Takbīr (like the one you recite on ‘Id day).
  • Fast a few days while the days are short and cold, particularly the 9th, the day of ‘Arafah.
  • If you haven’t paid for the qurban (sacrificial animal) yet, make sure to do so. Perhaps you should donate one to those who are most in need of it in areas such as Pakistan and Gaza.
  • Wake up before Fajr time and pray Qiyam-ul-Layl.
  • Pray your Fard salat on time.
  • Make sure you don’t miss any of the Nafl and Sunnah prayers.
  • Give charity and help those who are less fortunate prepare for the Eid day.
  • Share the spirit of the season and be cheerful with all people.

The Muslim should make sure that he does not miss any of these important occasion, because time is passing quickly. Let him prepare himself by doing good deeds which will bring him reward when he is most in need of it, for no matter how much reward he earns, he will find it is less than he needs; the time of departure is at hand, the journey is frightening, delusions are widespread, and the road is long, but Allaah is ever watchful, and to Him will we return and render account.As the Qur’aan says;“So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom, shall see it,

And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom, shall see it.”

[The Noble Quran, Surrah-al-Zalzalah 99:7-8]

There is much to be gained, so make the most of the opportunity afforded by these invaluable and irreplaceable ten days. Hasten to do good works, before death strikes, before one can regret one’s negligence and failure to act, before one is asked to return to a place where no prayers will be answered, before death intervenes between the hopeful one and the things he hopes for, before you are trapped with your deeds in the grave.

O you whose hard heart is as dark as the night, is it not time that your heart was filled with light and became soft? Expose yourself to the gentle breeze of your Lord’s mercy during these ten days, for Allaah will cause this breeze to touch whomever He wills, and whoever is touched by it will be happy on the Day of Judgement. May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad and all his Family and Companions.

The Superiority And Virtue Of The First Ten Days Of The Month Of Zulhijjah

And The Deeds Legislated In These Days from the Gulf Times March 1999


Verily, the praise belongs to Allah, the Most High, and May the Blessings of Allah and Peace be upon His Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions, all of them.

It is narrated from Ibn Abbaas (RAA) that the Prophet (PBUH) of said: “There are no days in which righteous deeds done in them are more beloved to Allah than these days, ie the ten days (of Zul-Hijjah). They said: O Messenger of Allah, not even Jihaad in the path of Allah? He said: Not even Jihaad in the Path of Allah, the Most High, except if a man goes out (for Jihaad) with his self and his wealth,
then he doesn’t return with anything from that.”

(Al-Bukhari, Abu Daawood and others. The exact wording is that of Abu Daawood)


It is narrated from Ibn Umar that the Prophet Muhammad (Blessings of Allah and Peace be upon him) said:
“There aren’t any days greater, nor any days in which deeds done in them are more beloved to Allah, the Most High, than these ten days (of Zul-Hijjah).

So, increase in them the saying of Tahleel (La Ilaaha illa Allah), and Takbeer (Allah Akbar) and Tahmeed (al-Hamdu li-llah)” [Musnad Imaam Ahmad]


The Types of Good Deeds in These Ten Days:

 


First: The performance of Haj and Umrah, and these are the best of deeds that may be done.
And what indicates their superiority are a number of Ahaadith, one of which is the saying of the Prophet (PBUH).
Performance of Umrah is an expiration of the sins committed between it and the previous Umrah,
and the reward of the Haj which is accepted by Allah, the Most High, is nothing but Paradise.

Second: Fasting during these days – as many of them as may be easy (for one to fast); Especially the Day of Arafah. There is no doubt that the act of fasting is one of the best deeds, and
it is from what Allah, the Most High, has chosen for himself, as in the Hadith Qudsee:

Fasting is for Me, and it is I who give reward for it. Verily, someone gives up his sexual passion, his food
and his drink for My sake…”

 (Al-Bukhari, Muslim, Maalik, at-Tirmidhee, Nasaa’ee and Ibn Maajah)
Also, from Abu Sa’eed al-Khudree who said that the Messenger of Allah said: No servant (of Allah, the Most High) fasts one day in the Path of Allah, except that Allah, the Most High, removes his face from the Fire because of it (the distance of travelling) seventy years.  (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)


From Abu Qatadah that the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said: Fasting the Day of Arafah will be credited with Allah by forgiving one’s sins of the previous year and the following year. (Muslim)


Third: At-Takbeer (Allah Akbar) and adh-Dhikr (the remembrance of Allah through different words of praise and glorification) in these (ten) days, Allah said “And mention the name of Allah
on the appointed days”(12:28).


This has been explained (by some) to mean the ten days (of Zul-Hijjah), and the scholars consider it desirable to increase adh-Dhikr in these days, based upon the hadith of Ibn Umar narrated by
Ahmad, which contains the words:
… so increase in these days the Tahleel and Takbeer and Tahmeed…
It is reported about Ibn Umar and Abu Hurairah that: the two of them used to go out to the market place during the ten days (of Zul-Hijjah) saying: Allahu Akbar, causing the people also to say it.

Ishaaq narrates from the scholars of the Taabi’een that in these ten days they used to say:
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Laa Ilaaha illa ‘llah Wa ‘llahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Wa li’llahi alhamd

It is a beloved act to raise the voice when saying the Takbeer in the markets, the houses, the streets, the Masjids and other places, because of the saying of Allah, the Most High, in Surah al-
Hajj, verse 37: “… that you may magnify Allah for His Guidance to you”
The saying of Takbeer in congregation, ie everyone pronouncing the Takbeer with one voice, is not permissible since this has not been transmitted (to us) from the early generations of the
Sahabah and those who followed their ways.

Verily, the Sunnah is for everyone to say the Takbeer individually. And this is (generally) applicable to Dhikr and supplications, except if the person doesn’t know what to say. In that case he may repeat after someone else until he learns (the words to be said).

It is also permissible to make Dhikr with all the different wording of Takbeer and Tahmeed and Tasbeeh, and the rest of the Islamic legislated supplications (from the Qur’an and Sunnah).


Fourth: At-Tawbah (repentance) and abstaining from disobedience and all types of sins,
since forgiveneand mercyare the results of deeds. Disobedience is the cause of being far away (from Allah, the Most High) and repulsion, while obedience is the cause of being near (to Allah,
Most High) and His love. In the hadith of Abu Hurairah he said that the Prophet said: Verily Allah has a sense of Ghaira, and Allah’s sense of ghaira is provoked when a person does that which Allah has prohibited.                                  (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)


Fifth: Doing plenty of voluntary (nafl) righteous deeds of worship like Prayer, Charity, Jihaad, reading the Qur’an, Commanding what is Good and Forbidding what is Evil, and other such deeds.
Verily, these are amongst the deeds that are multiplied in these days. It is during these days that even deeds that are less preferred, are superior and more beloved to Allah than superior deeds done at other times. (These deeds are superior) even to al-Jihaad – which is one of the most superior of all deeds – except in the case of one whose horse is killed and his blood is spilled (loss of life in Jihaad).


Sixth: It is legislated in these days to make at-Takbeer al-Mutlaq at all times of night and day until the time of the Eid Prayer. Also, at-Takbeer al-Muqayyad is legislated, and it is done after
the (five) obligatory prayers that are performed in congregation. This begins from Dawn (Fajr) on the Day of Arafah (the 9th of Zul-Hijjah) for those not performing Haj, and from Noon (Zhur) on
the Day of Sacrifice (10th of Zul-Hijjah) for those performing Haj (pilgrims); and it continues until Asr prayer on the last day of the days of Tash-reeq (13th of Zul-Hijjah).


Seventh: The slaughtering of a sacrificial animal (Adhiyah) is also legislated for the Day of Sacrifice (10th) and the Days of Tashreeq (11th, 12th and 13th). This is the Sunnah of our father
Ibraaheem – when Allah, the Most High, redeemed Ibraaheem’s son by the great sacrifice (of an animal in his place). It is authentically reported that The Prophet Muhammad slaughtered (sacrificed) two horned rams, black and white in colour, and said Takbeer (Allahu Akbar), and placed his foot on their sides (while slaughtering them).                       (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)


Eighth: Offering animal as Udhyia It has been narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said: If you see the Hilal (new moon) of Zul-Hijjah, and any one of you wants to make a sacrifice, then he should not cut (anything) from his hair and his nails. (Muslim and others). And in one narration, he said: .Then he should not cut (anything) from his hair, nor from his nails, until he performs the sacrifice.

Perhaps this is because of the similarity with the one who is bringing a sacrificial animal for slaughter (in Haj). As Allah, the Most High, said: And do not shave your heads until the Hady (sacrifice) reaches the place of sacrifice…
The apparent meaning of this prohibition is that it is particularly for the one whom the sacrifice is for, and does not include the wife or children, unless there is an individual sacrifice for one of them.      There is no harm in washing the head, or scratching it, even if hairs may fall out.


Ninth: It is incumbent for the Muslim (who is not performing Haj) to make every effort to perform the Eid Prayer wherever it is performed, and to be present for the Khutbah and benefit.
He must know the wisdom behind the legislation of this Eid Celebration). It is a day of thankfulness and performing deeds of righteousness. So, he must not make it a day of wildness,
pride and vanity. He should not make it a season for disobedience and increase in the forbidden things like music and singing, uncontrolled amusement, intoxicants and the like – those things which could cause the cancellation of the good deeds done in these days (of Zul-Hijjah).


Tenth: After what has been mentioned, it is fitting that every Muslim, male and female, take advantage of these days by obeying Allah, the Most High, remembering Him, thanking Him, fulfilling all the obligatory duties, and staying far away from the prohibited things. He must take full advantage of this season, and the open display of Allah’s gifts, to attain the pleasure of his Lord.
Surely, Allah, the Most High, is the One Who grants success, and He is the Guide to the Straight Path. And may the blessings of Allah, the Most High, and peace be upon Muhammad and his family and companions!

QUESTION —-►What is the Qur’aan (Koran)? 

ANSWER Praise be to Allaah.

The Qur’aan is the word of the Lord of the Worlds, which Allaah revealed to His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), to bring mankind forth from darkness into light:

-►“It is He Who sends down manifest Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) to His slave (Muhammad) that He may bring you out from darkness into light [Surrah, Al-Hadeed 57:9 – Interpretation of the meaning]

Allaah has told us in the Qur’aan the stories of the earlier and later generations and the creation of the heavens and the earth. He has explained in detail what is halaal and what is haraam, the basics of good manners and morals, the rulings of worship and dealings with others, the lives of the Prophets and the righteous, and the reward and punishment of the believers and disbelievers. He has described Paradise, the abode of the believers, and He has described Hell, the abode of the disbelievers. He has made it (the Qur’aan) an explanation of all things:

-►“And We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur’aan) as an exposition of everything, a guidance, a mercy, and glad tidings for those who have submitted themselves (to Allaah as Muslims)”

[Surrah,Al-Nahl 16:89 – Interpretation of the meaning] 

The Qur’aan explains the names and attributes of Allaah and what He has created. It calls us to believe in Allaah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers and the Last Day:

-►“The Messenger (Muhammad) believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each one believes in Allaah, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers. (They say,) ‘We make no distinction between one another of His Messengers’ — and they say, ‘We hear, and we obey. (We seek) Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return (of all)’”

[Surrah,Al-Baqarah 2:285 – Interpretation of the meaning] 

The Qur’aan describes the Day of Judgement and what will happen after death – the resurrection, the gathering, the judgement and being brought to account. It describes the Cistern, the Siraat (bridge over Hell), the Balance [in which deeds will be weighed], the blessings and torment, and the gathering of mankind on that great Day:

-►“Allaah! Laa ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). Surely, He will gather you together on the Day of Resurrection about which there is no doubt. And who is truer in statement than Allaah?

[Al-Nisaa’ 4:87 – Interpretation of the meaning] 

The Qur’aan calls us to examine and ponder the signs of Allaah in the universe and the verses of the Qur’aan:

-►“Say: ‘Behold all that is in the heavens and the earth’”

[Surrah, Yoonus 10:101 – Interpretation of the meaning] 

-►“Do they not then think deeply in the Qur’aan, or are their hearts locked up (from understanding it)?”

[Surrah, Muhammad 47:24 – Interpretation of the meaning] 

The Qur’aan is the Book of Allaah for all of mankind:

-►“Verily, We have sent down to you (O Muhammad) the Book (this Qur’aan) for mankind in truth. So whosoever accepts the guidance, it is only for his ownself; and whosoever goes astray, he goes astray only for his (own) loss. And you (O Muhammad) are not a Wakeel (trustee or disposer of affairs, or guardian) over them”[Surrah, Al-Zumar 39:41 – Interpretation of the meaning] 

The Qur’aan confirms the Books which came before it, the Tawraat (Torah) and Injeel (Gospel), and it is a witness over them, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

-►“And We have sent down to you (O Muhammad) the Book (this Qur’aan) in truth, confirming the Scripture that came before it and Muhaymin (trustworthy in highness and a witness) over it (old Scriptures)”[Surrah, Al-Maa’idah 5:48] 

After the Qur’aan was revealed, it became the Book for all of mankind until the Hour begins. Whoever does not believe in it is a kaafir who will be punished with torment on the Day of Resurrection, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

-►“But those who reject Our Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), the torment will touch them for their disbelief (and for their belying the Message of Muhammad)”[Surrah, Al-An’aam 6:49] 

Because of the greatness of the Qur’aan and the signs, miracles, parables and lessons contained therein, in addition to its eloquence and beautiful style, Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

-►“Had We sent down this Qur’aan on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rent asunder by the fear of Allaah. Such are the parables which We put forward to mankind that they may reflect”[Surrah,Al-Hashr 58:21] 

Allaah has challenged mankind and the jinn to produce something like it, even one soorah or one aayah, but they could not do that and will never be able to do that, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

-►“Say: ‘If the mankind and the jinn were together to produce the like of this Qur’aan, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another’”[Surrah, Al-Israa’ 17:88] 

Because the Qur’aan is the greatest of the heavenly Books, the most complete, the most perfect and the last of them, Allaah commanded His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to convey it to all of mankind, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):

-►“O Messenger (Muhammad)! Proclaim (the Message) which has been sent down to you from your Lord. And if you do not, then you have not conveyed His Message. Allaah will protect you from mankind” [Surrah, Al-Maa’idah 5:67]

Because of the importance of this book and the ummah’s need for it, Allaah has honoured us with it. He sent it down to us and has guaranteed to preserve it. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

-►“Verily, We, it is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur’aan) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption)”                  [Surrah,Al-Hijr 15:9]

Worshiping Only Allah (SWT)

The purpose of Mankind, the sole reason behind our creation, is to worship Allah Alone: “And I created not the Jinns and men except that they should worship Me (Alone).” [51: 56]

Worship has been defined by Ibn Taymiyyah as being: “a term which comprises everything that Allah (s.w.t) loves and approves of from the apparent and hidden sayings and deeds.”

The main condition for such worship to be accepted however, is that they must be solely made for the Sake of Allah, and no one else. This is the essence of Tawheed, and the Kalima itself, which declares boldly that there is no deity worthy of worship except for Allah.

And Du’a (supplication) is undoubtedly a part of worship, as Ibn Abbas said, “the best forms of worship is the du’a”

[Munthir and Ibn Haakim].

To Allah belongs certain rights, among these including to slaughter in His Name, to prostrate before no one but Him, and to direct Du’a to no one but Him. In this regard, the scholar Ibn Rajab said: “Know that it is an obligation to invoke Allah Alone in Du`a, and not His creation… Admitting (and showing) humility and meekness can only be revealed to Allah, Alone, for this is the essence of worship.”

Ibnul Qayyim said: “And from the types of Shirk, requesting needs from the dead, and Istighaathah from them and direction (of the call) to them, and this is the original of the Shirk of Mankind. Since the dead has his deeds cut off from him, and he cannot cause upon himself any good nor bad, let alone whoever seeks help from him, or asked him to seek intercession from Allah on his behalf. “

Calling upon the dead represents a hollow attempt to seek help from a creature who can benefit the caller nothing. Allah Says: “If you call upon them, they hear not your call, and if (in case) they were to hear, they could not grant it (your request) to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your worshipping them” [35: 14]

The argument of the Quraish was similar to that of today’s people: they only invoked their idols as a means or intermediary towards reaching Allah “We only worship them so that they may bring us closer to Allah.” [39: 3]. Similarly, the Walis (saints) and Sheikhs and prophets are still called upon by those seeking need, in the hope that they could fulfil their needs. Yet This practice was never done by the Companions nor their predecessors, but rather was done by Hindus and other pagans who Muslims came in contact with during later conquests.

And if the dead could indeed help anyone, they would help themselves. Take for example Saad Bin Muath, the Sayyid (Leader) of the Ansar, upon whose death the Throne of Allah shook, this exemplary model himself faced the closing in of the grave, yet he had no power to stop this.

So the one who does this faces the torment of death, and the punishment f the grave, and dwells in Hell, for Allah says: “When our Messengers (the angels) come to them to take their souls, they will say: ‘Where are those whom you used to invoke and worship besides Allah,’they will reply, ‘They have vanished and deserted us. ‘And they will bear witness against themselves, that they were disbelievers.” [7: 37].

Yet many will swear that upon asking the dead or those far away for assistance, their du’a is answered. This is no proof for their statements however, and in reality, this is true also of other religions, who worship idols and animals and planets, for they too find their supplications an. Rather, and as the Scholars have explained, any such occurrence is merely a coincidence or an act of the Jinns who seek to deviate Muslims. They rush to fulfil their desires, thus making this act fair-seeming and correct in the eyes of the Muslim.

During the time of the Prophet, there was a hypocrite who was causing harm upon the Believers. So some of them said “Let us go to the Prophet (s.a.w) and ask him to Istagheeth (seek for the removal of harm) for us from this hypocrite.” So the Prophet (s.a.w) replied “Verily, Istighaathah cannot be requested from me, rather, from Allah.” Although it was within the Prophet’s (s.a.w) ability and power to prevent the harm from the hypocrite, and although their request was Islamically valid, he stressed on the importance of using such terms for Allah only, because of the consequent damage it could cause to the Tawheed of his Ummah, had it been used to other than Allah.

Nonetheless, a myriad of Muslims still persist in this vice, even though the Scholars of Ahlus Sunnah have agreed upon its impermissibility. Ibn Taymiyyah commented in this regard: “But whoever takes them (Sheikhs, Awliyaa’, Pirs etc..) as intermediaries between Allah and His creation… So that they are the ones to pass on to Allah the needs of His creations, since (they believe that) Allah gives the guidance and the sustenance because of their intercession, so that the people would ask them (the intermediaries), who will then ask Allah, just as the kings’ intermediaries present people’s needs to the kings because they are closer to them from the need-seeker.. Whoever takes them as intermediaries in this manner, then such person is Kaffir and Mushrik, and should be asked to repent, and should be killed if he refuses; such people are Mushabbiha (resemblers), who have resembled the Creator to His creation, and have adopted partners with Him”.

The ways of the Prophets was to call Mankind to the worship of Allah, to seek His Help in every way, for He is the All-Hearer and All-Seer: “And when My slaves ask you concerning Me, then (say) I am indeed near. I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me. So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright.” [2: 186]

The Conditions for Udhiyah (Sacrifice)

There are six conditions for the udhiyah:

It should be one of the an’aam class of animals, which are: camels, cattle, sheep and goats, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And for every nation We have appointed religious ceremonies, that they may mention the Name of Allaah over the beast of cattle that He has given them for food”

[al-Hajj 22:34]

Baheemat al-an’aam (translated here as “beast of cattle”) includes camels, cattle and sheep. This is what is well known among theArabs, and this was the view of al-Hasan, Qataadah and others.

It should have reached the age stipulated in sharee’ah, which is six months for a sheep and the age at which the animal is considered to be an adult for any other animal, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Do not sacrifice anything but an adult animal, unless it is difficult for you, in which case youmay slaughter a six-month old lamb (jadh’ah).” Narrated by Muslim.

A mature animal means one that is considered to be an adult.

In the case of camels it means one that is fiveyears old.

For cattle, it means one that is two years old.

For sheep it means one that is a year old.

The jadh’ah is that which is half a year old. Soit is not correct to sacrifice a camel, cow or goat that has not yet reached maturity, or a sheep that is less than six months old.

It should be free of any faults that would render it unsuitable for sacrifice, of which there are four:

i – An obvious defect in one eye, such as when the eye is sunken in its socket, or when it sticks out like a button, or is white and obviously defective.

ii – Obvious sickness, whose symptoms are clearly apparent in the animal, such as fever that prevents it from grazing and causes lossof appetite; mange that obviously affects its flesh or its health; deep wounds that affect its health, and so on.

iii – Obvious lameness, which prevents the animal from walking normally.

iv – Emaciation that leaves no marrow in the bones, when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked about what should be avoided in udhiyah, hegestured with his hand and said: “Four: alame animal which is obviously lame, a one-eyed animal whose defect is obvious, a sick animal whose sickness is obvious, and an emaciated animal that no one would choose.” Narrated by Maalik in al-Muwatta’ from the hadeeth of al-Bara’ ibn ‘Aazib. According to a hadeeth narrated from him inal-Sunan, he said: “The Messenger of Allaah(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stood up among us and said: ‘There are fourwhich are not permissible for sacrifice,’” andhe mentioned something similar. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 1148.

These four faults render an animal unsuitable for sacrifice, and they include similar faults or more severe faults.

So the following animals are also unsuitable for sacrifice:

a- One that is blind in both eyes.

b- One that has eaten more than it can stand,until the danger has passed.

c– One that has encountered difficulty in giving birth, until all danger has passed.

d- One that has suffered something that could kill it, such as strangulation or a fall from a high place, until the danger has passed.

e- One that is unable to walk because of a defect.

f- One that has had one of its forelegs or hind legs cut off.

If these are added to the four defects mentioned in the text, the number of those that cannot be offered as sacrifices reaches ten – these six and the four mentioned above.

The animal should belong to the person whois offering the sacrifice, or he should have permission for that either on the grounds of sharee’ah or from the owner. The sacrifice isnot valid if the animal slaughtered does not belong to the person who is sacrificing it, such as one that has been taken by force, stolen, or taken on the basis of a false claim, etc, because it is not permissible to draw closer to Allaah by means of sin. A sacrifice offered by the guardian of an orphan from the orphan’s property is valid if that is customary and if hefeels sad about not offering a sacrifice.

A sacrifice offered by a guardian from the property of the person under his care is valid, if done with permission.

No one else should have any rights to the sacrificial animal; the sacrifice of an animal that is held in pledge is not valid.

It should be slaughtered at the time specifiedin sharee’ah, which is from after the Eid prayer on the Day of Sacrifice until sunset on the last of the days of al-Tashreeq, which is the 13th of Dhu’l-Hijjah. So the days when the sacrificed may be offered are four:the day of Eid after the prayer, and the three days after that. Whoever slaughters it before the Eid prayer is over, or after sun sets on the 13th of Dhu’l-Hijjah, his sacrifice is not valid, because of the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari from al-Bara’ ibn ‘Aazib (may Allaah be pleased with him), according to which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever slaughters (his sacrifice) before the prayer, itis meat that he has brought to his family, butthat is not the sacrifice.” And he narrated that Jundub ibn Sufyaan al-Bajali (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) saying, ‘Whoever slaughters the sacrifice before he prays, let him replace it with another.’” And it was narrated that Nubayshah al-Hadhali (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘The days of al-Tashreeq are the days of eating, drinking and remembering Allaah.’” Narrated by Muslim.

But if he has an excuse for delaying it beyond the days of Tashreeq, such as if the animal ran away, without there being any negligence on his part, and he could not findit until after the time was over, or he appointed someone else to slaughter it and that person forgot until the time was over, then there is nothing wrong with slaughtering it after the appointed time. Thisis by analogy with the one who sleeps and misses a prayer, or forgets it – he shouldpray it as soon as he wakes up or rememberit.

It is permissible to slaughter the udhiyah at any time, night or day, but it is better to slaughter it during the day, and it is better toslaughter on the day of Eid after the two khutbahs. Each day is better than the day that follows it, because that means that one is hastening to do good.

If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn’t happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice.

1. Perform all your salaah’s everyday & read the Qur’an daily with understanding especially Surah Baqarah.

2. Go to bed on time with Ayatul Kursi.

3. Wake up with your thanks to Allah subhanatallah for your privilege of another day.

4. Say no to projects that won’t fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable persons around you.

6. Simplify and un clutter your life.

7. Less is more. Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.

8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don’t lump the hard things all together.

10. Take one day at a time.

11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what ALLAH would have you do and let go of the anxiety . If you can’t do anything about a situation, forget it.

12. Live within your budget; don’t use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

13. Have back ups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.

14. K.M.S. ( Keep Mouth Shut ) This single piece of advice (though bit harsh) can prevent an enormous amount of trouble and keep us away from Ribat , that may undo some of our good deeds.

15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16.Carry an English QURAAN with you to read while waiting in line. You don’t have to have wudhu to read, learn & implement the most beautiful words in the world only respect for the messages of ALLAH.

17. Get enough rest and do not postpone for tomorrow what you can achieve todayas this day may never come.

18. Eat right and share with those who have less or nothing to eat.

19. Get organised so everything has its place.

20. Listen to a tape or CD while driving that can help improve your quality of life — Surah Yusaf, Surah Waqeah, Surah Fata’h or any of your favourite Surah.

21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.

22. Everyday, find time to be alone, mirror yourself and make changes in your life that would benefit you in Akhirah.

23. Having problems?

Talk to ALLAH on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don’t wait until it’s time to go to bed to try and pray.

24. Make friends with ALLAH fearing people.

25. Keep a folder of favourite Hadith on hand for your own reference.

26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good.

27. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.

28. Develop a forgiving attitude most people are doing the best they can.

29. Be kind to unkind people they probably need it the most.

30. Sit on your ego.

31. Talk less; listen more.

32. Every night before bed, think of one thing you’re grateful for that you’ve never been grateful for before.
