Purofy our hearts

Purify our hearts 🧡

Imam Al Bukhari رحمه الله narrated on the authority of Imam Muhammad ibn Sireen رحمه الله that he said “We were sitting with Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه and he had two linen garments dyed with red clay, and he wiped his nose with one of them, and then he said “بخ بخ Abu Hurayrah is wiping his nose in linen garments! There came a time when I would fall senseless between the pulpit of Allah’s Messenger ﷺ and `Aisha’s رضي الله عنها dwelling whereupon a passerby would come and put his foot on my neck, considering me a mad man, but in fact, I had no madness, I suffered nothing but hunger.” *بخ بخ* is an exclamation of amazement among the Arabs. This was the state of Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه who narrated the most Ahadeeth from amongst the Sahaba رضي الله عنهم.

This was the condition for the majority of them! Yet they never let their poverty, their hunger, their suffering stop them from worshipping and obeying Allah! And specifically, it didn’t stop Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه from seeking knowledge! While we, living comfortable lives, in relative comfort, Struggle with the most basic acts of worship! Why? Their hearts weren’t attached to this Dunya! They were amazed when a little came their way! Their Dunya was never a Jannah for them!

As Allah says: *وَمَا الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا مَتَاعُ الْغُرُورِ* And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion. But we are indulgent in the Dunya and have attached ourselves to it and made it our Jannah, Thus we struggle even while being able!

As Allah says: *بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا* But you prefer the worldly life, *وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ* While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.

We must let go of the Dunya in our hearts, even if we live with wealth! Have your wealth no problem, But let the same الحمد الله you exclaim when you have it, be the same الحمد الله when you don’t have it! This is true Zuhd!(detachment) Empty our hearts of what our hands are full of.

May Allah ﷻ purify our hearts of false attachments to this Dunya and its temptations, forgive our sins and enter us into Firdous.
