”Count your blessings”

A Thought-Provoking short Story  -”Count your blessings”

An-Nu’maan ibn Al-Basheer said: “He who does not thank Allaah for small favors will not thank Him for great ones; and he who does not express gratitude to people (for doing him favors) will not express gratitude towards Allaah. Appreciating and mentioning the favor bestowed upon one from Allaah is gratitude, and not doing so expresses ingratitude.” [Ahmad]

It was once told that a King ordered that 10 dogs be made hungry so that he could throw to them any minister that made a mistake so that they would eat him. One day a minister gave a wrong opinion and it didn’t please the King at all so he ordered he be thrown to the dogs to make an example of him.

Then the minister said to him: “I have served you for 10 years and you do this to me!? Please just give me 10 more days before you implement this judgement.”

So the king replied: “You may have that.”

The minister went to the dog guard and said to him: “I just want to serve the dogs for ten days.” The dog guard accepted but was confused about this offer. So the minister began taking care of the dogs, he fed them and washed them and provided for them all means of comfort.

Ten days later the judgement time arrived and he was thrown into the dogs prison. The King and his workers were watching and were shocked with what they saw as the dogs just barked at the ministers feet..

The King then said: “What have you done to the dogs!?”…

The minister replied: “I have served these dogs for 10 days and they did not forget this service.

And you, I had served for 10 years but you have forgotten everything.”

ALLAH (SWT), bestows us with so many blessings but when we do not get a thing we want, we become ungrateful. He has witnessed us sinning but never snatched our vision away. Why don’t we turn in prayer to Him and bow in prostration for all His blessings?
